The exact label and location vary by browser; Microsoft Edge explicitly says its Headers and footers setting puts the page number in the footer.
Save a webpage as a numbered PDF in Chrome
- Open the webpage you want to save.
- Open Print from the File menu, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- Choose a PDF destination, such as Save as PDF. Open the dialog’s additional settings and look for a headers-and-footers option. The exact control and wording can vary by operating system and Chrome version.
- Check the preview. Make sure page numbers are visible, then save the PDF.

Save a webpage as a numbered PDF in Firefox
- Open the webpage and choose Print.
- In the print preview, choose Save to PDF.
- Expand More settings and configure Print headers and footers.
- Check the preview for page numbers and layout, then save.
Firefox’s print settings also include paper size, scale, margins, orientation, and background printing. Some pages offer a simplified format. If you select Firefox’s Simplified format, you cannot also select print backgrounds.
Save a webpage as a numbered PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage and choose Print from the menu, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Open More settings and select Headers and footers.
- Check the preview, choose the available PDF destination or saving flow, and save.
Microsoft Support says this setting “adds the current date to the document header & adds the page number to the footer.” Edge also offers print scaling options, including fitting content to the printable area or retaining actual size. Its printing instructions describe Immersive Reader as an option for reducing clutter on supported websites; it is not available on every site.

Check pagination before saving
A webpage does not necessarily print exactly as it looks on screen. Its print layout, selected paper size, scale, orientation, and margins can change where pages break and what is visible. Inspect the preview, especially on long pages and pages with tables or images.
- Confirm the numbers are visible: check the preview after turning on headers and footers.
- Leave footer space: browser-generated headers and footers need enough margin. Chrome for Developers explains that headers and footers can be suppressed when margins are zero or too small to leave room.
- Adjust layout settings if content clips: try a different paper size, scale, orientation, or margin setting, then review the pagination again.
- Check the saved PDF: preview is useful, but open the saved file too if page breaks or important content must be correct.
Common problems and fixes
Page numbers are missing
Return to the print dialog and enable the headers-and-footers option, if the browser provides one. Check the preview before saving. Edge’s documented setting places a page number in the footer; Firefox exposes print headers and footers in More settings.

The footer is cut off or does not print
Increase the bottom margin or choose a print setting that leaves space for browser-generated headers and footers. In Chrome, zero or very small margins can suppress them.

Text, tables, or images are clipped or split awkwardly
Change scale, paper size, orientation, or margins and inspect the resulting page breaks. Reducing scale may fit more content on a page, but can make text harder to read.

The PDF looks different from the webpage
Webpages may use a distinct print layout. Review the preview and saved PDF rather than relying on the screen view. In Edge, Immersive Reader may reduce clutter on supported sites; availability is site-dependent.

Do not assume Chrome, Firefox, or Edge menu paths apply to Safari or mobile. Check the print preview in your version of the browser for a headers-and-footers or page-number setting before saving.
