Install the free Just Dance Controller app on a compatible phone, open a supported Just Dance game, and follow the on-screen prompts to connect it. You can hold the phone and use it as a motion controller, or choose Camera Controller Mode for hands-free, full-body scoring. Camera Controller Mode is for solo play only.
Choose how you want to use your phone
The phone can serve two different roles. With handheld motion control, you hold it while dancing. With Camera Controller Mode, you position it so its camera can track your full-body movements; you do not hold it as you dance. Ubisoft describes both phone options for Just Dance 2026 Edition.

On Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the consoles’ controllers are also scoring options. The best method depends on whether you want to dance hands-free, are playing solo, and have a phone that meets the app’s requirements.

Check compatibility before setting up
- Phone: Ubisoft lists iOS 14.4 or later and Android 9 or later as minimum operating-system requirements. The Just Dance Controller app is free, and Ubisoft says no additional accessories are required. Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2026 announcement
- Game: Use a compatible Just Dance edition and platform. The supported phone modes and available controller options can vary by game and platform.
- Song: Ubisoft says every choreography from Just Dance 2025 Edition and Just Dance 2026 Edition is compatible with Camera Controller Mode. Some Just Dance+ or older-edition songs may also work, but compatibility is not guaranteed for every song. Check the camera-compatibility indicator for the song when available. Ubisoft’s announcement
- Players: Camera Controller Mode is solo-only. For local multiplayer, choose another supported controller method; the number of players depends on the game mode and platform.
Set up your phone
- Install the free Just Dance Controller app on a phone running iOS 14.4 or later, or Android 9 or later.
- Open your compatible Just Dance game and follow its on-screen prompts to connect the phone or select a phone controller mode. Ubisoft’s public information confirms the app and modes but does not specify a universal sequence of taps, so the exact prompts may differ.
- For handheld motion control, hold the phone while you dance and follow the game’s guidance.
- For hands-free scoring, choose Camera Controller Mode and place the phone where its camera can see your body as you dance. Ubisoft describes this mode as full-body tracking but does not prescribe a specific stand or placement.
- Select a compatible song and start playing. Camera Controller Mode is limited to solo play.
What Camera Controller Mode does—and what Ubisoft’s figures mean
Camera Controller Mode uses computer vision to recognize dance movements through the phone camera. Ubisoft says the feature moved out of beta and is stable for regular use in Just Dance 2026 Edition. That describes the feature’s status, not a promise that every movement or song will be recognized perfectly.

In a 2025 development article, Ubisoft reported recording 9,000 movements, using 6,000 for training and 3,000 for testing, with an 80% success rate in data testing. Ubisoft said its Score Level Designers manually balanced and adjusted the remaining 20%. These are Ubisoft-reported development figures, not independent consumer accuracy measurements. The article identifies Apolline Wasik, a Data Scientist specialized in Computer Vision, and Léo Gammel, a Score Level Designer, as members of the team involved in the feature’s research and production. - The app will not connect: Confirm the phone meets the listed operating-system minimum, then reopen the game and follow its current connection prompts. The available Ubisoft instructions do not establish a single pairing sequence for every platform.
- Camera Controller Mode is missing: Confirm that your game edition and platform support the mode, and that you are setting up a solo session. Controller choices can differ between platforms and editions.
- A song cannot be camera-scored: Check the song’s camera-compatibility indicator where available. Just Dance 2025 and 2026 choreographies are supported; compatibility for Just Dance+ and older songs is not universal.
- You want to play with others: Use another supported controller method rather than Camera Controller Mode. Local multiplayer support and player limits depend on platform and mode.
