You need an encoder or media pipeline that can read the bucket’s files, sequence or loop them, create a live feed, and send that feed to YouTube’s configured ingestion endpoint. The practical flow is bucket → encoder or media service → YouTube Live.

How to use a cloud storage bucket as the video source for a 24/7 YouTube stream
Keep the recorded videos in object storage, then run a persistent encoder or media service that can retrieve them and deliver a live signal to YouTube. The bucket is the source of files, not the live-stream publisher. YouTube requires a configured live stream and an encoder or pipeline that sends video to its ingestion address using the associated stream name or key.

Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a managed transcoding workflow: it accepts live RTMP or SRT input, transcodes it to HLS or DASH, and can save output to Cloud Storage. Choose the architecture before uploading the playlist
Self-managed encoder
Run an encoder on a persistent machine or deployment that can access the objects in your bucket. It retrieves or mounts the files, arranges them into a sequence, loops or advances through that sequence, and sends the resulting live feed to YouTube. You are responsible for the bucket connector, media compatibility, process supervision, monitoring, and restart behavior.
Managed media pipeline
A managed pipeline can reduce the amount of encoding infrastructure you operate, but confirm that it supports the source and destination flow you actually need. Google Cloud’s documented Live Stream API accepts an incoming live feed and produces HLS or DASH outputs; Cloud Storage is documented as an output destination in its quickstart, not as a direct YouTube input. Build the self-managed bucket-to-YouTube workflow
- Store the media and playlist data. Upload the video files and keep any playlist or manifest data in the object bucket. Choose a storage layout your encoder can access reliably.
- Give the encoder access to the objects. Run it on a persistent machine or use a service integration that can read the files. FFmpeg documents file and network-stream inputs, but the precise bucket connector, download strategy, or filesystem mount depends on your cloud provider and deployment. See the FFmpeg documentation.
- Sequence and test the videos. Use a playlist or concatenation method compatible with your media. FFmpeg’s FAQ describes the concat filter for cases requiring re-encoding and the concat demuxer when re-encoding can be avoided. Files with different codecs, dimensions, frame rates, timestamps, or audio layouts may need normalization. Validate the actual library and transitions before going live; see the FFmpeg FAQ.
- Create and configure the YouTube live stream. In YouTube’s live-stream setup, obtain the ingestion address and stream name or key for the protocol you plan to use. Configure the encoder to send its output there. The YouTube LiveStreams API exposes ingestion type, address, and stream status or health information. Keep the key in secret configuration and never publish it.
- Run the encoder continuously. Configure a process supervisor or equivalent service manager to restart an encoder that exits unexpectedly. Add logs and alerts so a failed process or degraded feed does not remain unnoticed.
- Monitor delivery and test recovery. Check YouTube stream health and confirm that the feed has video and audio. The API can report delivery problems such as low bitrate, frame-rate mismatch, or missing audio. Test the full restart and recovery path before relying on the setup continuously.
There is no single universal FFmpeg command or bucket connector established by the official documentation cited here. The exact implementation depends on your provider’s object access method, the media files, the chosen protocol, and your deployment. Treat a working test with the actual files and cloud region as a prerequisite, not an assumed property of the architecture.

YouTube’s LiveStreams API documents RTMP/RTMPS, HLS, and DASH ingestion types. Choose based on your encoder’s capabilities, the required media formats, latency, and the operational complexity you can support. RTMP or RTMPS
Use this route when your encoder can deliver a continuous live feed using YouTube’s configured ingestion address and stream key. YouTube’s API lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion. Keep the encoder’s stream-key configuration private.
HLS
YouTube’s HLS setup is more prescriptive than a generic live push. It calls for MPEG-TS media segments lasting 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST or PUT delivery, and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments rather than a continuous RTMP stream. Consult the YouTube HLS setup requirements and HLS ingestion guide.

DASH
The YouTube LiveStreams API documents DASH as an ingestion type. Verify that your encoder or pipeline supports the exact format and configuration YouTube requires for your channel before building around it.

Plan for continuity, not just a successful first connection
A 24/7 stream depends on more than an encoder accepting files once. The process must keep reading and sequencing media, deliver a valid feed, and recover when a process or connection fails. YouTube’s health information can surface delivery issues, but it is not an uptime guarantee.

- Log object-access failures, playlist transitions, encoder errors, and reconnects.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and confirm audio and video are present.
- Test what happens when an object is unavailable, a playlist ends, a network connection drops, or the encoder restarts.
- Keep the stream key out of logs, public configuration, and shared files.
