To move a Conan Exiles single-player or co-op world to a dedicated server, stop the destination server, back up its current database, and upload the matching local database file to the server’s ConanSandboxSaved data location. Use game.db for Exiled Lands or DLC_Siptah.db (also shown as dlc_siptah.db in Funcom documentation) for Isle of Siptah. Restart the server and verify your character, buildings, inventory, and progression before allowing players to connect.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Conan Exiles servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
The exact remote folder depends on the hosting panel. Common examples are /server-data/ and /ConanSandbox/Saved/. The important part is replacing the destination database with the database from the same map, while the server is offline and a rollback copy is available.

A Conan Exiles world is stored in a database, not in a single profile folder that can be imported through the game client. The database contains the world state associated with the map: player characters, structures, containers, inventories, progression and other persistent data. A dedicated server loads that database during startup.
For a normal PC installation, the local save is under the Conan Exiles installation directory at ConanSandboxSaved. Gravel Host identifies game.db as the save file. Funcom’s current Enhanced migration notice distinguishes the two map databases:
#1 Best Overall
- EXPLORE A VAST WORLD: Explore a giant world, from the burning desert in the south to the snow-capped mountains in the north. Discover ancient cultures, ruins, and dungeons
- SURVIVE: Stay warm, cool yourself down, drink and eat, weather scouring sandstorms, prevent your mind from being corrupted when exploring dark dungeons, and battle vicious monsters to stay alive
- BUILD: Harvest resources to craft tools and weapons, then build anything from a small home to entire cities piece by piece. Build walls, traps, elevators, and more, then deck out your creations with a wide variety of different furniture, crafting stations, and NPC guards
- DOMINATE: Wage war against your enemies, use siege weapons and explosives and see their walls crumble to dust, then unleash your savage fury in violent and brutal combat
- BUILD AN ARMY OF THRALLS: Capture NPCs, drag them back to your base, and use the Wheel of Pain to break their will. Turn them into archers, crafters, entertainers, and more for your settlements
| World map | Database to upload | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Exiled Lands | game.db |
Use this only when the destination server is running Exiled Lands. |
| Isle of Siptah | DLC_Siptah.db (Funcom also writes dlc_siptah.db) |
Use the Siptah database for a Siptah world; do not substitute game.db. |
Windows file systems are generally case-insensitive, but preserve the filename and spelling supplied by your host or Funcom’s migration instructions. Uploading the wrong map database can leave you with a new or apparently empty world instead of the save you intended to transfer.
Before you upload: requirements and safety checks
- Destination access: You need the host’s web file manager or SFTP credentials. A control panel that only offers start and stop buttons is not enough for a database import.
- Server stopped: The destination process must be offline before you replace its database. A live server can keep writing the old database and overwrite your upload or leave a partially written file.
- A rollback copy: Download or copy the destination database before changing anything. EmeraldHost explicitly warns that uploading overwrites the existing save, and XGamingServer describes importing as replacing the current save.
- The same map: Match Exiled Lands with
game.dband Isle of Siptah with the Siptah database. - Compatible software: Keep the client and server on compatible Conan Exiles versions. Required mods, their load order and configuration must also match.
- Enough storage: Leave room for the uploaded database and for automatic or manual backups. Backup naming and retention differ by provider.
If the destination world has anything you may want later, make two copies: one stored in the host panel and one downloaded to your computer. Numbered files such as game_backup_1.db are used by some providers, but the presence, numbering and retention of these backups are host-specific.

Seven-step upload procedure
-
Stop the destination server
Open the hosting panel and choose Stop or Power off. Wait until the panel reports that the process has stopped; do not begin the transfer merely because the console appears quiet. EmeraldHost’s documented sequence starts with stopping the server before an SFTP transfer.
-
Back up the destination world
Use the panel’s backup action if one is provided, then download the database or copy it to a separate backup folder. Name the copy with the date and map, for example
exiled-destination-before-import-2026-10-15.db. The backup is your recovery path if the wrong file is uploaded or the server fails to start. -
Find the local save on your PC
Open the Conan Exiles installation directory and enter
ConanSandboxSaved. Locategame.dbfor an Exiled Lands save. For Isle of Siptah, locate the Siptah database namedDLC_Siptah.dbordlc_siptah.db, depending on how your installation displays it. If you have several copies, sort by modified date and identify the file updated after your last play session; do not guess when multiple worlds are present. -
Confirm the map before selecting a file
Check the map you intend to run on the dedicated server. Uploading an Exiled Lands database to a Siptah server, or the reverse, is not a conversion. If you are unsure, start from the local save you know contains the relevant character and buildings, then match its map to the server’s map setting before transferring it.

Connect with the host’s file manager or SFTP
Use the provider’s browser file manager when available, or connect with an SFTP client using the hostname, port, username and password or key supplied by the host. Remote paths are not universal. Gravel Host documents
/server-data/, while EmeraldHost documents/ConanSandbox/Saved/game.db. Your panel may expose a different root or hide the full path, so follow its displayed directory tree rather than copying either example blindly. -
Upload the matching database and replace the server copy
In the remote save directory, preserve the backup you made, then upload the local database. If the panel asks whether to overwrite the existing file, confirm only after checking the filename and map. For Exiled Lands, the destination file is normally
game.db. For Isle of Siptah, use the corresponding Siptah database file required by that server. Wait for the transfer to finish completely; a browser upload that appears finished while the file size is still changing is not ready to use. -
Start the server and verify the imported world
Start the server from the panel and wait for it to finish loading. Join the intended map with a client running the compatible version and required mods. Check the character list, spawn location, buildings, storage containers, inventory, learned recipes, map markers and progression. If the world is empty, the wrong map database or remote folder is the first thing to recheck. Stop the server before attempting another replacement.
Finding the correct remote folder
Hosting companies expose the same Conan data through different layouts. Some place the game files directly below a server root; others provide a file-manager shortcut that opens the save directory. The examples documented by providers illustrate the difference:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Provider documentation example | Path shown | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Gravel Host | /server-data/ |
Use the panel’s directory structure to locate the Conan save database beneath this root. |
| EmeraldHost | /ConanSandbox/Saved/game.db |
Upload the replacement database at the displayed save path through SFTP. |
Do not create a second Saved folder because a similarly named directory exists nearby. If the panel has a search box, search for the existing game.db while the server is stopped. Replacing the file in the directory the server actually reads is more reliable than inferring a path from a local installation.
Moving a single-player or co-op save
A local world can be moved to a dedicated server when the database belongs to the map you are configuring. The upload does not merge two worlds. It transfers the source world as a replacement for the destination world, so structures and progression already present on the dedicated server are not combined with the local save.

- Explore a giant world, from the burning desert in the South to the snow-capped mountains in the North
- stay warm, cool yourself down, drink and eat, weather scouring sandstorms, prevent your mind from being corrupted when exploring dark dungeons, and battle vicious monsters to stay alive
- harvest resources to craft tools and weapons, then build anything from a small home to entire cities piece by piece
Before the move, leave the local game in a stable state and close it normally so the database is not being written during the copy. Identify the save that contains the character and structures you want. Then follow the stop, backup, map-selection and upload sequence above. The destination server should be configured for the same map and compatible mods before players join.
Player identity can require extra care when a local co-op world is moved to a dedicated environment. Verify that the expected character appears after login rather than assuming that every platform, account or authentication arrangement will map identically. If the character is missing while the world structures are present, restore the pre-import backup before trying a different database or changing server settings.

Version, Enhanced edition and mod compatibility
The database is not independent of the software that reads it. Update the dedicated server and client to compatible versions before troubleshooting an apparently missing save. A version mismatch can prevent startup, trigger a migration, or make a world appear incomplete even when the file transfer succeeded.
Funcom’s dedicated-server documentation places server configuration under ConanSandboxSavedConfigWindowsServer. Configuration files are separate from the world database, so uploading a save does not automatically copy local server settings. If the local world relied on custom harvest rates, difficulty, admin settings or other configuration, reproduce those settings in the dedicated server’s configuration rather than expecting them to travel with game.db.
Mods are another separate dependency. Install the same required mods on the server, use a compatible version of each mod and preserve the expected load order. A world that loads without a required mod may show missing items, broken structures or errors. If the server fails after the import, stop it, review the console for the named mod or database error, and restore the known-good destination backup before making another change.
Funcom’s Enhanced migration notice specifically names the map databases used in the migration. Treat that naming as a compatibility requirement: Exiled Lands uses game.db, while Isle of Siptah uses the Siptah database. Do not rename an Exiled Lands file to make it look like a Siptah save or expect a filename change to convert maps.

What to check when the import does not work
The server starts an empty world
- Confirm that you uploaded the database from the correct local installation and that its modified date matches your last session.
- Check that the destination map matches the database:
game.dbfor Exiled Lands, Siptah database for Isle of Siptah. - Verify the remote directory by locating the original server database and comparing its path with the path you used.
- Stop the server before replacing the file again. A running process can recreate or overwrite the database.
The server will not start
- Restore the pre-import database to determine whether the failure is caused by the uploaded world or by a separate server change.
- Check server and client versions, then inspect the console for migration or database errors.
- Verify that required mods are installed and ordered correctly.
- Confirm that the uploaded file completed and has a plausible file size rather than being a zero-byte or partial transfer.
Characters or buildings are missing
- Make sure you joined the same map represented by the uploaded database.
- Check that you used the current save, not an older backup or a different local profile.
- Confirm that the relevant mods and configuration are present.
- If only account-linked data is absent, stop experimenting on the live copy and restore the backup before checking the host’s account or authentication settings.
The upload is rejected or the panel shows permission errors
Use SFTP or the host’s supported file manager rather than an unsupported protocol. Check that the server is stopped, that your account has write permission in the save directory and that the host has enough disk space for both the existing backup and replacement. Ask the host for the exact writable path if the panel exposes a read-only or system directory.
Backups, restores and repeat transfers
A safe workflow treats every import as a reversible change. Keep the original local database untouched, retain the destination copy made before the upload and label subsequent backups by date and map. If the host offers automatic backups, learn when they run and how many copies are retained; XGamingServer documents numbered files such as game_backup_1.db, but another provider may use different names or retention rules.
To restore, stop the server, move the faulty database out of the active save directory, put the dated backup back under the exact filename the server expects, and start the server. Verify the world before deleting any failed upload. Never overwrite your only backup while attempting a repair.
Dedicated-server setup context
For PC administrators, Funcom directs users to install Conan Exiles Dedicated Server from Steam’s tools. Its dedicated-server documentation lists default ports 7777 for game traffic and 27015 for query traffic. A host may change these values, so use the ports shown in your panel when connecting and configuring a firewall.
Funcom’s 2017 setup article gives example sizing figures, not a universal modern guarantee: 10 players were listed with 8 GB of RAM and 35 GB of disk, 35 players with 8 GB of RAM and 35 GB of disk, and 70 players with 12 GB of RAM and 35 GB of disk. These figures are dated examples and do not account for every mod, operating-system overhead, backup policy or host configuration. Treat them as a starting reference and leave additional storage for world growth and backups.
Choosing a host for future world uploads
If you expect to move saves more than once, evaluate the file and recovery workflow before paying for a server. The practical differences are more important than a marketing label.
| Capability | Why it matters when importing a world | Questions to ask the host |
|---|---|---|
| SFTP access | Transfers large databases reliably and allows you to keep local copies. | Is SFTP included, and what hostname, port and authentication method are used? |
| Browser file manager | Useful when you do not want to install an SFTP client. | Can it upload, download, rename and overwrite database files? |
| Backup and restore controls | Protects the existing world and shortens recovery time. | Are backups automatic, how many are retained, and can you download them? |
| Map-specific file support | Lets you manage Exiled Lands and Siptah databases without guesswork. | Does the panel document both game.db and the Siptah database? |
| Mod management | Reduces missing-content and startup failures after a migration. | Can you install, update and order mods, and see their load errors? |
| Resource capacity | Determines whether a transferred world remains stable as players and mods increase. | What RAM, CPU, storage and player limits apply to your plan? |
| Import support | Useful if you need help identifying paths or recovering a failed upload. | Will support help import an existing save, and what files or backups must you provide? |
The most important promise is not a particular control-panel brand; it is a documented, reversible process: stop the server, preserve the old database, upload the map-matched file, and restore it if verification fails.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Verification checklist after the first login
- The server reports the intended map and finishes startup without database or mod errors.
- Your expected character is available and can enter the world.
- Buildings, thralls, pets, containers and inventories are present.
- Known crafting recipes, attributes, map markers and progression match the local world.
- Friends can connect through the host’s assigned game and query ports.
- A fresh post-import backup has been created before normal play resumes.
Once these checks pass, the dedicated server is using the uploaded world rather than a newly generated database. Keep the dated source and destination backups until everyone has confirmed that the transfer is complete.
