The strongest Hyperia City upgrade is usually a small, testable package that improves what your list already does, not a complete rebuild around whichever new character is most recognizable. Hyperia City prereleased on October 16, 2026, and broad release is scheduled for October 23, 2026, according to Ravensburger. The set adds Disney and Pixar’s Coco glimmers, songs, new locations, princesses, Mickey, Zootopia and Gargoyles themes, plus ink drops—a temporary resource that can change how some turns are sequenced.

What Hyperia City changes for deck builders
Hyperia City is not one single archetype. Its cards support several different plans, and the right upgrade depends on the deck you already own. Coco cards spread discard and song synergies across Amber, Amethyst and Ruby. Other cards reward you for generating or spending ink drops. Locations, items, princesses and established character tribes provide additional options.

The release window matters
Ravensburger lists October 16, 2026, for prerelease events and October 23, 2026, for broad availability. Card pools and event legality can differ during that transition. Before entering an organized event, check the current comprehensive rules, errata and format announcement rather than assuming every Hyperia City card is legal immediately.
How do I upgrade my Disney Lorcana deck with Hyperia City cards?
- Write down the baseline. Record the two inks, your primary way to win, average cost, number of uninkable cards and the turns on which the deck normally falls behind.
- Choose one package. Begin with Coco songs and discard, ink-drop tempo, locations, items and selection, princess support, or another clearly supported tribe. Do not mix several half-built engines in the first test.
- Verify every card. Use the official Hyperia City card gallery and current release notes to confirm exact text, inkability, cost, rarity and set membership. Spoiler images can be outdated or omit important wording.
- Replace, rather than simply add. Cut the weakest cards at similar points on the curve. Preserve enough early plays and inkable cards to keep your opening turns functional.
- Test the package for several games. Track whether it advances lore, stabilizes the board, improves selection or creates dead draws. Keep the package only when it advances the stated plan more often than it consumes useful deck slots.
- Recheck legality before publishing or playing competitively. Review the current rules, errata and event policy after the set is fully released.
Choose a Hyperia City package that matches your deck
| Package | Best fit | What it asks from the deck | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coco songs and discard | Amber, Amethyst or Ruby lists that can discard deliberately | Cards that reward a growing discard pile, songs and characters that turn discarded cards into value | Discarding without payoffs can leave you short on resources |
| Ink-drop tempo | Decks that can generate drops and spend them on meaningful turns | Reliable drop creation plus cards whose effects improve while a drop is available | Small bonuses do not justify dead cards if drops are inconsistent |
| Locations | Lists that can protect or exploit a location over multiple turns | Time and board space to keep the location in play | A location can be weak when the opponent removes it or when your deck needs immediate pressure |
| Items and selection | Item-heavy lists or decks that need better access to key cards | Enough items to trigger item-based effects and enough hand quality to use them | Selection cards can be inefficient when the deck lacks a clear target |
| Princess, Mickey, Zootopia or Gargoyles themes | Existing tribal shells | A sufficient density of related characters or effects | Adding isolated characters for theme alone can weaken the curve |
Understanding Hyperia City’s new mechanics
Ink drops are temporary counters
An ink drop is a counter kept beside the play area, not a card shuffled into your deck. Remove one to pay one ink. You may pay with drops, regular ink or a combination of both. A removed drop cannot be reused. Ravensburger says printed counters appear in Hyperia City boosters, but a die or another suitable object can represent the same resource.
This makes a drop a timing tool rather than permanent ramp. Saving one can let you play a card while leaving regular ink available, satisfy an effect that checks for a drop, or combine resources for a larger turn. Because drops disappear when spent, do not count them as future ink when planning later turns.

Adventurous changes how a character quests
A character with Adventurous cannot challenge and must quest each turn if able. Mickey Mouse – Best In Town is Ravensburger’s introductory example. Its Hot Dog! ability gives each player an ink drop at the end of your turn if Mickey is exerted.
That symmetrical effect can be useful when your deck converts drops more efficiently than the opponent, but it can also accelerate the opposing player. Treat Mickey as an engine piece whose drawback needs to be part of your calculation, not as an automatic inclusion in every Mickey list.

Coco rewards remembering discarded glimmers
Ravensburger describes Coco cards as rewarding players for “remembering” past glimmers. Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge can provide extra lore once 10 or more cards have passed into your discard pile. Songs and characters such as Miguel Rivera – Street Musician support a discard-based plan.
The threshold means the package should be evaluated as an engine. If your deck rarely reaches 10 discarded cards during a game, Marigold Bridge may be a slower payoff than its text suggests. If you already discard songs or cards as part of normal play, the same location can turn an unavoidable cost into lore.

Several highlighted cards care about whether a drop is available or how it was used:
- Madam Mim – Resourceful Trickster is presented as a hand-value payoff.
- Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester can generate an ink drop when challenged.
- Wasabi – Called into Battle has a stronger laser effect while an ink drop is in play.
- Jousting Match deals extra damage when an ink drop is used.
These cards do not all belong in the same list. A deck built around Go Go Tomago wants opponents to challenge or must otherwise tolerate that condition. Wasabi wants a drop to remain available at the moment its effect matters. Jousting Match rewards spending the drop, so it competes with cards that want you to preserve one. Build around the timing each card requires.
Selection and item engines
Intense Research normally looks at the top two cards. When an ink drop pays for it, it looks at the top five instead. That is a substantial selection upgrade only when your deck can reliably create a drop and has enough relevant cards to find.

Spyglass Hat can put a card from your hand into the inkwell when a newly played item has a unique name among your items. The condition rewards varied item names, not simply a high item count. If your list contains many duplicate names, check whether the trigger occurs often enough before dedicating slots to it.
What cards should I add & take out?
There is no universal Hyperia City swap list because the correct cuts depend on your current 60 cards. Use a replacement worksheet rather than adding cards until the deck is over its limit.
Find cuts by role
- Dead early draws: cards that are too expensive to matter in the first several turns or that have no useful effect when behind.
- Redundant payoffs: the weakest copy of an effect your deck already has in excess.
- Off-plan characters: cards that do not advance lore, challenge profitably, support your engine or provide needed interaction.
- Overloaded uninkables: cards that are powerful only in ideal positions and make opening hands difficult to use.
- Curve gaps: if Hyperia City adds a better two-cost play, cut a weaker card at a similar cost rather than removing one of your few early plays.
Match each addition to a job
Write the job of every proposed inclusion in one sentence: “raises lore after the discard threshold,” “creates a drop when challenged,” “improves selection,” or “converts a drop into extra damage.” If you cannot name the job, the card is probably being added because it is new rather than because it improves the deck.
Begin with a small package—often four to eight slots is enough for a first test—and keep the rest of the list unchanged. A small package makes it possible to tell whether the new cards helped. Once the package proves useful, increase its density or adjust the supporting cards.
How to compare candidate cards
| Question | Why it matters | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Does it share your ink pair? | Off-color cards cannot be included in the normal way, and changing inks changes the whole deck. | Ink symbol and any color-specific requirement |
| Can it be inked? | Uninkable cards reduce the hands you can keep and the resources available later. | Inkability, plus how often you expect to need the card in play |
| What does it do at its cost? | A card must compete with every other play on that turn. | Cost, strength, lore, immediate effect and curve position |
| Does it need an engine? | Conditional text is weaker when the supporting cards are not drawn. | Required discard count, item diversity, drop availability or tribal density |
| Is it useful alone? | Standalone utility reduces dead draws when the package is incomplete. | What happens when drawn without its partner cards |
| How vulnerable is it? | A payoff that disappears to common removal may not justify a large investment. | Whether it creates value immediately or only after surviving |
Building a Coco discard package
Start with the discard source
List the cards in your current deck that discard as a cost or effect, then estimate how many cards normally reach the discard pile by the middle and late game. Add Hyperia City songs or characters only if your deck can activate them without abandoning its normal lore plan.

Add payoffs in stages
Test the discard enablers first, then add payoffs such as Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge or Miguel Rivera – Street Musician. This prevents a common failure mode: drawing several payoff cards before the discard pile is large enough to matter.
Watch your hand size
Discard effects can reduce future choices. Keep enough draw, recursion or selection to avoid trading away every answer for a delayed benefit. A discard package should make cards in your hand more valuable, not merely make the discard pile larger.

Separate generators from spenders
Count cards that create drops and cards that consume or check for them. If the list has many spenders but few reliable generators, the package will be inconsistent. If it has many generators but no strong way to convert them, the drops may sit unused.
Plan the turn before spending
Ask whether the drop should pay for a card, remain in play to improve an effect such as Wasabi’s laser, or be spent to trigger Jousting Match. Because a removed drop is gone, spending one for a minor discount can prevent a stronger play on the same or following turn.

Account for opponent interaction
Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester generates a drop when challenged, so the opponent controls part of the timing. Do not treat that text as guaranteed acceleration. Include the card when its baseline body and other effects remain useful even when the opponent declines to challenge.

Using locations, items and tribal support
Locations need a protection plan
Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge is most attractive when your deck can reach its 10-card discard condition and keep the location in play long enough to collect extra lore. Test whether playing the location costs less tempo than the lore it eventually produces. A location that is powerful only when you are already ahead may not solve a losing position.
Items need density and variety
For Spyglass Hat, count unique item names rather than only total items. The trigger requires a newly played item to have a unique name among your items, so a list filled with duplicate names may fail to turn the Hat’s text on. Intense Research is better in a list that can reliably create an ink drop and has high-value cards to find among the top five.
Tribes should reinforce the curve
Hyperia City expands princess, Mickey, Zootopia and Gargoyles themes. Add those cards when they improve an existing tribal engine or fill a needed curve slot. Character popularity is not a substitute for a useful cost, inkability and effect in your particular list.
Testing the upgrade without fooling yourself
- Use a fixed list. Change only the Hyperia City package between test rounds.
- Record opening hands. Note whether you can play a useful card on the early turns and whether uninkable cards stranded you.
- Track the package’s real triggers. Count games in which the discard threshold, ink-drop condition, item-uniqueness trigger or tribal effect actually occurred.
- Record outcomes by function. Mark whether a card advanced lore, stabilized the board, improved selection, generated a drop or sat unused.
- Test from behind. A card that looks strong only when you already control the board may not be an upgrade.
- Keep cards that work without perfect assembly. A package should have enough standalone value to survive ordinary disruption and imperfect draws.
Should I buy Hyperia City boosters or singles?
| Buying route | Best for | What you receive | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singles | Exact playsets for a known upgrade | The specific cards and quantities your list requires | Less discovery and no sealed-opening experience |
| Booster packs | Players who want to open cards and expand a collection | Randomized Hyperia City cards, including printed ink-drop counters in boosters | You may not open the cards needed for a particular package |
| Booster display box | Collection growth and multiple sealed packs | A larger quantity of randomized boosters | Still random; duplicates and missing key cards are possible |
| Illumineer’s Trove | New or returning players who also need accessories | Eight booster packs, six damage dice and a full-art box | Not the efficient route for a precise playset |
For a deck with a defined upgrade, singles are the efficient choice because they provide the exact copies you need. Choose boosters or a booster display when collection growth and opening packs are part of the goal. The Illumineer’s Trove is relevant when the included dice and full-art storage box are useful to you as well as the eight boosters.
Ravensburger promotes prereleases, organized play and a store locator. Local stores can be useful places to find singles and test a new package, but confirm current stock, event dates and any store-specific policies before traveling.
Release, rules and card-text checks
- Confirm whether Hyperia City is available in your region; the October 23, 2026, broad-release date is the general Ravensburger schedule.
- Use the official card gallery for current names, costs, inkability, rarity and wording.
- Read current release notes for ink-drop and Adventurous interactions.
- Check the comprehensive rules and errata before an organized event, especially during the prerelease-to-release transition.
- Do not treat a spoiler image, an old deck list or an unverified database entry as final card text.
A practical decision rule for your final list
Keep a Hyperia City card when it fits your ink pair, occupies a needed curve slot, advances your existing win condition and remains useful often enough without perfect setup. Cut it when it is uninkable without sufficient payoff, requires an engine your deck cannot support, or merely replaces a stronger card because it is new. This approach lets you explore Coco, ink drops, locations, items and tribal themes while preserving the deck identity that already gives your list a reason to win.
