Verizon extenders update firmware automatically in the setup process described in Verizon’s Fios Home Wi-Fi Extender manual: the update begins after the extender establishes a wireless connection. Keep the unit plugged in while its light blinks white. For an E3200, you can check the installed version in its interface under System > System Status; Verizon’s guide does not document a customer-facing firmware upload or force-update control.
Before you start: confirm the extender and router
These instructions are not universal to every Wi-Fi extender. Identify the model on the device label and confirm its router and backhaul connection are supported before pairing or troubleshooting.

- Verizon lists the E3200 as compatible with the G3100. With the CR1000A or CR1000B, the E3200 connects over wired Ethernet or coax.
- Verizon says earlier extenders such as the E3200 support coax or Ethernet backhaul with the Verizon Router. A Wi-Fi backhaul may require the Extender Mini instead.
See Verizon’s Fios Extender E3200 Datasheet and Wi-Fi Extender Mini support FAQ for those compatibility details. If your model or router differs, check Verizon’s documentation for that combination rather than assuming the E3200 procedure applies.

For the setup described in Verizon’s Fios Home Wi-Fi Extender manual, the extender starts updating after it establishes a wireless connection. Verizon estimates approximately six minutes for that update. This is an estimate for the manual’s described setup process—not a guaranteed duration for every E3200 revision, router configuration, or later firmware release.

During the blinking-white firmware-upgrade phase, leave the extender plugged in. Verizon’s manual warns: “Do NOT unplug extender during the firmware upgrade (blinking white).”
Set up the extender and check its firmware version
- Pair the extender. Follow the steps for your model and router. For an E3200, use Verizon’s current Wi-Fi Extender (E3200) setup and pairing instructions, including its indicator-light guidance.
- Wait through the update. If the described setup update starts and the light blinks white, keep the extender powered until the process finishes. The approximately six-minute estimate comes from Verizon’s Fios Home Wi-Fi Extender manual.
- Open the E3200 interface. Find the extender’s IP address in the Verizon router interface, then enter that address in a browser on your network.
- View the version. In the extender interface, open System > System Status and note the firmware version. Verizon’s E3200 guide says this page displays firmware and hardware versions; the guide’s menu and status instructions are in the Verizon E3200 Wi-Fi Extender User Guide.
If the firmware does not appear to update
Check pairing and the indicator light
Use Verizon’s current E3200 pairing page to review the connection steps and what the extender’s lights indicate. A blinking-white light during the documented upgrade is a reason to keep the unit powered, not to unplug it.

If the extender broadcasts a different Wi-Fi name
Verizon’s E3200 FAQ recommends unplugging and reconnecting the extender, then waiting five minutes for it to reboot when its Wi-Fi name differs from the Gateway’s. That five-minute wait is for this name-synchronization troubleshooting step; it is not a firmware-update duration. See Verizon’s E3200 Wi-Fi Extender for Wireless Home Internet FAQs.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not treat reset or reboot as a firmware command
The E3200 guide documents reboot and factory-reset controls, but does not document a customer-facing firmware upload or a command that forces an update. A reset is therefore not a guaranteed firmware fix. If pairing is correct and the version still appears outdated, contact Verizon support to ask about an update or update failure; do not install an unofficial firmware image.
