To update Android on a Nokia phone, open its system update settings, check for an update, and follow the prompts if one is offered. The menu path differs by model. To check whether your phone is still receiving updates, identify its exact model and look it up on HMD’s Security and Maintenance Updates page; a “no update available” message alone does not establish that support has ended.
Check for an update on the phone
Connect to Wi-Fi, make sure the battery is adequate or connect a charger, then use the update menu for your exact model. HMD documents different paths for different Nokia phones:

These are examples, not a universal Nokia menu route. Consult the guide for your exact phone if the labels or path do not match. If an update is offered, follow the instructions on screen.
Prepare for installation
- Use Wi-Fi: update packages may consume substantial mobile data.
- Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged or connect a compatible charger. Buying a charger is not necessary if you already have one that works with your phone.
- If the phone reports insufficient storage, HMD’s Nokia 7.2 guide suggests moving photos or other files to a memory card.
- Choose a time when you can leave the phone alone. HMD warns that while an update installs and the phone restarts, the device cannot be used, including for emergency calls.
Check published support and release information
- Find the phone’s exact model name in its settings or on the device documentation.
- Open HMD’s Security and Maintenance Updates page and select that model to view its posted release information.
- If you still need model-specific instructions, use the phone’s HMD user guide or the HMD support page.
The built-in check answers whether an update is being offered to that handset now. HMD’s model selector provides posted release information for the identified device; it does not guarantee that every handset in every market receives an update at the same time.

Understand “no update available”
A phone may not show an update because none is currently offered to it, or because the rollout has not reached that device or market. HMD Global Oy’s Security and Maintenance Updates page, updated September 29, 2026, says timing can depend on device model, region, location, operator approval, and Google’s monthly security patch release. HMD also says a posted release can take several days to reach everyone in an approved market; this is not a universal delivery deadline.
Check the model-specific guide and release listing before drawing conclusions. The available information does not establish one Nokia-wide support end date, a uniform number of Android-version upgrades, or a fixed security-update schedule for every Nokia-branded phone.

Android upgrades and security patches are different
An Android OS upgrade changes the operating system version. Security patches address security fixes, and HMD describes them as additional to OS updates; patches may also be included in maintenance releases. Check the release details for your exact model rather than assuming that an OS upgrade and a security patch arrive together.
If the update check does not resolve the issue
Confirm the model, consult its HMD guide and the model selector, then contact HMD support if the phone continues to behave unexpectedly. HMD identifies its support channel as the authorized support channel for HMD- and Nokia-branded devices manufactured by HMD. Update menus and recovery steps can differ by model, so do not treat unofficial firmware files or a factory reset as routine fixes.
