Update the Pro Controller from Switch 2 settings
- Update the console: From the HOME Menu, open System Settings > System > System Update and follow the on-screen instructions if an update is available.
- Power on and pair the controller: The controller needs to be powered on and paired with the Switch 2 to be included in the update.
- Start the controller update: Open System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Update Controllers, then follow the on-screen instructions. If several controllers are paired, the console updates them one at a time.
Nintendo’s instructions run through the console’s settings; they do not call for a computer or phone app. They do not specify a particular download duration or firmware version.

What to do if the update stops or fails
If the update stops before finishing, try the update step again. If it continues to fail, follow this sequence:
- Confirm the Switch 2 has the latest system update at System Settings > System > System Update.
- Restart the console.
- Reset the controller by pressing its SYNC button once, then press another button on the controller.
- Try System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Update Controllers again.
If the problem persists, Nintendo says the console and affected controller may need service. See Nintendo Support for help.

Make sure you have the original Switch Pro Controller
This procedure is for the original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, model HAC-013. Nintendo lists it as compatible with Switch 2 for wireless pairing. It is a different product from the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
If the controller does not appear for updating, check that it is powered on and paired. Check its model number as well: a different model may be a third-party controller, for which Nintendo advises contacting the manufacturer.

Use the Switch 2 menu label
On the original Nintendo Switch, the legacy path is System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Update Controllers. On Switch 2, use System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Update Controllers.
