Short answer: no published source establishes that a particular BG3 console command is safe to use in a live campaign save. Larian’s documented debug console commands belong to the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit editor, not a general in-game cheat console. For build testing, work in the editor or a disposable test save, and keep your main campaign untouched.
What “BG3 console cheats” actually refers to
BG3 players may mean two different things by console cheats: commands in Larian’s Toolkit editor, or debugging tools provided by the third-party Script Extender. Neither should be treated as a universal, risk-free cheat console for a normal campaign.

| Route | Best suited to | Support and main caution |
|---|---|---|
| Toolkit editor debug console | Testing a mod or build inside the editor | Official Larian documentation; the command list does not promise safe effects on live campaign saves. |
| Script Extender console | Third-party debugging or experimentation on supported PC/Linux setups | Maintained outside Larian; support and compatibility depend on platform and game build. |
Which commands does Larian document?
Larian’s Toolkit shortcut documentation identifies Ctrl+Shift+F11 as the shortcut for opening the editor’s “Debug Console Commands.” It lists commands for navigation, inventory, character testing, combat, and reloading editor data. Their presence in that list is not evidence that they work in a regular campaign or preserve a save.
Navigation and selection
gotoandposfor navigation or position-related operations.Select,SelectByUUID, andSelectPlayerfor selecting entities or a player.
Inventory and object creation
give,givetreasure, andspawnItem.create %item% %amount%.
Character and testing operations
addDebugSpell,addDebugSpellAsClass,levelup,ccStartNew, andccStartRespec.godandroll %value%.
Combat, state, and reload operations
killCombat,peace,endTurnCombat,statusApply,statusRemove,applyPassive, andremovePassive.reloadStats,reloadStory,dumpOsirisState,reloadUI,reloadLoca, andshroud.
Commands that affect story state, inventory, character statistics or levels, or combat should be treated as experimental. Larian’s documentation does not classify these commands by reversibility, achievement effect, or save-corruption risk.
#1 Best Overall
- Online multiplayer for up to four players - allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it
- Origin Character - offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes
- Evolved turn-based combat - based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight
- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
How to test without risking your main campaign
This is a cautious workflow, not an official Larian safety guarantee:
- Choose the right environment. For a mod or build project, use the Toolkit editor and its documented debug console. For campaign exploration, use a separate test campaign or disposable copy rather than your only main save.
- Preserve an untouched save. Keep a backup that you do not load into a modded or experimental setup.
- Change one thing at a time. Record what you changed so you can identify which operation caused an unexpected result.
- Check the result before continuing. If story, inventory, stats, level, or combat state changes unexpectedly, return to the untouched save instead of carrying the experiment into your main playthrough.
Script Extender, mods, and achievements
Script Extender is third-party software, not a Larian-supported console. Its maintainer’s repository describes a DeveloperMode setting for debugging functionality and an EnableAchievements setting for modded games. Those are third-party tool settings, not a Larian guarantee that achievements will remain enabled.

Larian’s Community Update #29 states: “Achievements are automatically disabled when you’re using mods, so keep this in mind if you’re still planning on completing your Baldur’s Gate 3 achievements!” If achievements matter, keep a separate unmodded run and do not assume a Script Extender setting overrides Larian’s stated behavior.

Larian’s Patch 8 materials describe specific cross-play mod conditions: console players have a 100-mod limit in the stated cross-play setup, and joining a PC host requires using mods marked available on console and Mac. These conditions apply to that cross-play context; they should not be read as a general rule for every local modded save.
