To unlock Reptile Leather crafting in Enshrouded, rescue Athalan Skree, the Hunter, by completing Hunter Becomes The Hunted. Place the Hunter at your base, make sure his Drying Rack is available, then process Reptile Hide and Salt there. Reptile Hide comes from Snapjaws.
The ordinary Reptile Leather recipe is separate from Water Reptile Leather. The two materials have different levels, ingredients, and equipment uses, so selecting the correct recipe matters.

Reptile Leather is tied to the Hunter’s crafting progression rather than being an immediately available general recipe. The required NPC is Athalan Skree, identified as the Hunter. He is found in the Ancient Vault – Hunter and becomes available to your settlement after you complete the Hunter Becomes The Hunted quest.
Until Athalan is rescued and placed at your base, the Drying Rack path for this material is not available through the Hunter’s workstation system. Start with the Hunter quest instead of searching for a separate leather-specific unlock.

Rescue Athalan Skree
- Travel to the Ancient Vault – Hunter.
- Complete the quest Hunter Becomes The Hunted.
- Recruit Athalan Skree and place the Hunter at your base.
The quest name and location are important because other NPCs and crafting stations do not replace the Hunter for this recipe path.
How to get the Drying Rack
The Hunter’s workstation list includes the Drying Rack. After placing the Hunter, check his available workstation progression. If the rack is not immediately listed, continue the Hunter’s workstation quests and progression rather than assuming the leather recipe itself is missing.

Station access checklist
- Athalan Skree has been rescued.
- The Hunter has been placed at your base.
- The Drying Rack is available through the Hunter’s workstation list.
- You can open the Drying Rack’s recipe menu.
Gather the two ingredients
Reptile Hide
Reptile Hide drops from Snapjaws. Hunt those enemies and collect the hide before returning to the Drying Rack. The official Reptile Hide entry identifies Snapjaws as the drop source, so looking for a different animal is unnecessary for this recipe.
Salt
Salt is the second ingredient in the ordinary Reptile Leather recipe. The available item records identify Salt as a required material but do not specify a single exclusive gathering location in the recipe entry. Keep Salt in your inventory before opening the rack so the recipe can be queued without stopping between batches.

Exact Reptile Leather recipe
Open the Drying Rack after the Hunter is active and select ordinary Reptile Leather. One batch uses 1 Reptile Hide and 3 Salt, produces 3 Reptile Leather, and takes 1:00—one minute—to complete.
- Interact with the Drying Rack.
- Select Reptile Leather, not Water Reptile Leather.
- Confirm the input of 1 Reptile Hide and 3 Salt.
- Start the job and wait one minute for the batch to finish.
- Collect the resulting 3 Reptile Leather.
The conversion is fixed per batch: each Reptile Hide becomes three leather when paired with three Salt. If you have five hides, for example, you need fifteen Salt and can queue five batches for fifteen leather, with five minutes of rack time if processed one after another.
How to plan batches without wasting materials
Because the recipe has a three-to-one output multiplier, count hides first and Salt second. The limiting ingredient determines how many complete batches you can run:
- Available batches from hide = your Reptile Hide count.
- Available batches from Salt = your Salt count divided by three, rounded down to a whole batch.
- Your actual batch count is the smaller of those two numbers.
- Total leather equals completed batches multiplied by three.
- Total rack time equals completed batches multiplied by one minute when jobs run consecutively.
This lets you decide whether another Snapjaw hunt or more Salt collection will increase production. Extra Salt cannot start a batch without a Reptile Hide, and extra hides cannot be processed without three Salt per hide.

Ordinary Reptile Leather is a common, level-13 material. The official equipment table lists it in recipes spanning several equipment roles:

The broad spread of supported equipment means the material is not limited to one combat archetype. If you are preparing several loadouts or upgrading storage, keep track of the number of recipes you intend to make before spending every batch on the first item that appears in your crafting menu.
Reptile Leather versus Water Reptile Leather
Water Reptile Leather is a separate level-40 material. It is made from Water Reptile Hide and Salt at the Drying Rack, and its downstream recipes are different. The similar names are the main source of confusion: having the water variant does not satisfy a recipe that specifically requests ordinary Reptile Leather.

When a recipe asks for Reptile Leather, select the level-13 item. When it asks for Water Reptile Leather, the level-40 item is required. The Drying Rack is shared, but the input hide and resulting equipment recipes are not interchangeable.
Why Reptile Leather may not appear in the Drying Rack
The authoritative item and quest records establish the Hunter quest, the Drying Rack, the ingredients, the yield and the crafting time. They do not identify a separate hidden trigger that controls the first moment the recipe appears in the interface.
If the recipe is absent, use this order of checks:
- Confirm that you completed Hunter Becomes The Hunted, not merely reached the Ancient Vault.
- Verify that Athalan Skree is actually recruited and placed at your base.
- Open the Hunter’s workstation list and confirm that the Drying Rack is available.
- Obtain at least one Reptile Hide, then reopen the Drying Rack menu.
- Continue the Hunter’s workstation quests and progression if the rack or recipe still does not appear.
- Check that you are looking for ordinary Reptile Leather rather than the level-40 water variant.
Obtaining a hide and reopening the menu is a practical troubleshooting step; it is not documented as a formal unlock requirement. Likewise, continuing workstation quests is a sensible progression check, but the available records do not define a separate recipe-visibility rule.

Common mistakes and their fixes
Searching for a separate leather NPC
Problem: You look for another crafter who handles reptile materials.
Fix: Use Athalan Skree, the Hunter. His workstation progression supplies the Drying Rack route.
Using the wrong hide
Problem: You have Water Reptile Hide but the recipe requires ordinary Reptile Hide.
Fix: Hunt Snapjaws for the ordinary hide and select the level-13 recipe.
Assuming one hide makes one leather
Problem: You calculate materials on a one-to-one basis.
Fix: One batch consumes one hide and three Salt, then returns three leather. Plan Salt and rack time around that conversion.
Checking the wrong station
Problem: You search a general workbench or another processing station.
Fix: Open the Hunter’s Drying Rack.
Leaving before the batch finishes
Problem: The input was accepted but no leather is visible immediately.
Fix: Allow the one-minute crafting period to complete, then collect the output from the rack.

Use this sequence whenever you start a new settlement or need to verify the recipe on an existing one:

- Hunt Snapjaws until you have the required Reptile Hide.
- Collect three Salt for every hide you plan to process.
- Open the Drying Rack and choose the level-13 Reptile Leather recipe.
- Start each batch, allow one minute per batch, and collect three leather from each completed job.
Following the order prevents the most common dead ends: hunting for materials before the station exists, selecting the water variant, or mistaking an unavailable recipe for a missing ingredient.
