Some doors require a rune, key, outfit, NPC quest or a previous boss victory, and owning the DLC is separate from discovering its entrance.
This guide covers every DLC route, its alternate entrances, first-visit requirements, boss biomes and the fixes for doors that appear to be missing.

How Dead Cells counts its biomes
The Official Dead Cells Wiki defines biomes as “the different areas within Dead Cells which players must progress through.” The current game structure contains 15 base-game main biomes and four base-game boss biomes. The downloadable expansions add nine main biomes and eight boss biomes, for 24 main biomes and 12 boss biomes when all content is installed.
The progression covered here spans five expansion families: the free Rise of the Giant, The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea, and Return to Castlevania. A biome can be visible on a map without being reachable in your current run: the game may be waiting for a rune, a one-time key, a special outfit, an NPC quest or a boss victory.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Before looking for a DLC entrance
- Install and own the expansion. Discovering a door does not unlock DLC content that is not installed or owned on your platform.
- Expect route variation. Biome names, transitions and boss-cell doors can differ with platform build and difficulty. The progression information used for this route guide reflects PC and console Update 35 from 19 August 2024, with mobile parity noted for 18 February 2025.
- Separate first visits from repeat runs. Several routes use a one-time interaction on the first visit, then become ordinary repeatable transitions later.
- Keep required runes available. The Teleportation Rune, Spider Rune and Giant Rune each affect different DLC routes; having one does not substitute for another.
All DLC routes at a glance
| Expansion | First practical entry | Required gate | Route and boss | Alternate entry notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rise of the Giant | Graveyard to Cavern | Giant Rune | Cavern to Guardian’s Haven and the Giant | The rune is earned by entering the Giant route and defeating the Giant; later runs use it in Graveyard. |
| The Bad Seed | Prisoners’ Quarters to Dilapidated Arboretum | Hidden plant-platform entrance; Arboretum key on first visit | Arboretum to Morass of the Banished to Nest and Mama Tick | Morass is also reachable from Prison Depths or Promenade of the Condemned with the Teleportation Rune. |
| Fatal Falls | Black Bridge, Nest or Defiled Necropolis to Fractured Shrines | No rune for the first transition; Cultist Outfit for the first Undying Shores exit | Fractured Shrines to Undying Shores to Mausoleum and Scarecrow | After the first unlock, Undying Shores is repeatable without repeating the initial unlock event. |
| The Queen and the Sea | Quest begins in Toxic Sewers; shipwreck entries appear later | Fisherman quest and Crowned Key from the lighthouse keeper’s house | Infested Shipwreck to Lighthouse to the Crown and Queen | Infested Shipwreck can be entered from Clock Room, Guardian’s Haven or Mausoleum. |
| Return to Castlevania | Prisoners’ Quarters staircase | Meet Richter and Alucard; later route requires the Death/Dracula boss progression | Castle’s Outskirts to early Dracula’s Castle, then Defiled Necropolis; repeat runs open deeper Dracula’s Castle and Master’s Keep | The staircase and NPC encounter start the first Castlevania route; the deeper route is exposed after the relevant boss victory. |
Rise of the Giant: unlock Cavern and the Giant route
1. Obtain the Giant Rune
Rise of the Giant is the free expansion route. Your first objective is to enter the Giant route and defeat the Giant. That victory awards the Giant Rune. The initial Giant encounter is therefore both the boss challenge and the permanent progression step: until the rune is obtained, the later Cavern door in Graveyard cannot be opened.
2. Use the rune in Graveyard
- Start a later run and reach Graveyard.
- Search Graveyard for the rune-gated passage to Cavern.
- Activate the passage with the Giant Rune. The opening is not a generic wall or a standard exit; it is specifically gated by this rune.
- Progress through Cavern to Guardian’s Haven and take the Giant boss route.
Cavern is the Rise of the Giant biome identified by the progression route, while Guardian’s Haven is the boss approach. If the Graveyard passage does nothing, check that the Giant Rune was actually awarded by defeating the Giant in an earlier run; another rune cannot open it.
The Bad Seed: Dilapidated Arboretum, Morass and Nest
1. Find Dilapidated Arboretum from Prisoners’ Quarters
The Bad Seed chain starts at the beginning of a run. In Prisoners’ Quarters, locate the plant-platform or hidden entrance leading to Dilapidated Arboretum. The entrance is easy to overlook because it is not presented like a normal, prominent biome doorway. On your first visit to Arboretum, collect its key. Treat that key as a permanent unlock step rather than an item needed on every subsequent run.
2. Choose a route into Morass of the Banished
Arboretum continues to Morass of the Banished. Morass also has two alternate approaches:
- Prison Depths: take the standard transition from that biome when it appears in your run.
- Promenade of the Condemned: use this approach when you have the Teleportation Rune.
The Teleportation Rune is relevant only to the Promenade option. It does not replace the Giant Rune used for Cavern or the Spider Rune used for the Nest-to-Graveyard option.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
3. Enter Nest and fight Mama Tick
Morass of the Banished leads to Nest, the alternate first-boss biome in The Bad Seed. Mama Tick is the boss associated with this route. After Nest, the available exit can lead to Stilt Village, Fractured Shrines or Graveyard when the Spider Rune condition is met.
Because Nest is a first-boss alternative, you do not need to force it into a run that has already taken another first-boss transition. If the Nest door is missing, verify that you reached Morass through one of its valid entrances and that The Bad Seed is installed.

Fatal Falls: Fractured Shrines, Undying Shores and Mausoleum
1. Enter Fractured Shrines
Fatal Falls is the second paid expansion. It released for PC and consoles on 26 January 2021 and contains Fractured Shrines, Undying Shores and Mausoleum. Fractured Shrines has three documented entry points:
- After Black Bridge
- After Nest
- After Defiled Necropolis
That makes Fractured Shrines a flexible mid-run choice rather than a single fixed door. If one approach is absent in a particular run, check the other eligible transition instead of assuming the DLC is unavailable.
2. Unlock the Undying Shores exit
Continue from Fractured Shrines to Undying Shores. On the first visit, the exit from Undying Shores requires the Cultist Outfit. The outfit requirement applies to the initial unlock event; after that first unlock, the route becomes repeatable in later runs without repeating the same discovery step.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
- Reach Undying Shores from Fractured Shrines.
- On the first visit, equip or otherwise satisfy the Cultist Outfit requirement at the exit.
- Use the newly opened transition and record that the route is now permanently repeatable.
If the exit remains sealed, the usual cause is reaching Undying Shores for the first time without the Cultist Outfit. Returning with the outfit is the required recovery step.
3. Reach Mausoleum and Scarecrow
Undying Shores continues to Mausoleum, the final Fatal Falls biome in this chain. Mausoleum contains the Scarecrow encounter. The complete progression is therefore Fractured Shrines, Undying Shores, then Mausoleum; the first-visit outfit check occurs in the middle biome, not at the Fractured Shrines entrance.
The Queen and the Sea: unlock Infested Shipwreck and the Queen route
1. Start the shore quest in Toxic Sewers
In Toxic Sewers, speak with the Fisherman. This conversation starts the shore quest that prepares the route to Infested Shipwreck. Speaking to him is an NPC gate, so simply reaching the later biomes without initiating the conversation can leave the chain incomplete.
2. Get the Crowned Key in Stilt Village
- Progress to Stilt Village after starting the Fisherman’s quest.
- Visit the lighthouse keeper’s house.
- Defeat the elite Armored Shrimp inside.
- Take the Crowned Key from the lighthouse keeper’s corpse.
The Crowned Key is the key gate for the next stage. The elite fight must be completed before the key can be collected; finding the house without defeating the Armored Shrimp does not finish the quest.
3. Enter Infested Shipwreck and continue to the Queen
With the quest completed and the Crowned Key in hand, look for Infested Shipwreck entrances from Clock Room, Guardian’s Haven or Mausoleum. The route then proceeds to Lighthouse and finally to the Crown and Queen boss sequence.

The multiple entry points explain why the shipwreck may not appear after every biome. Clock Room, Guardian’s Haven and Mausoleum are the documented source biomes; a different route through the run can therefore postpone the next opportunity. If the shipwreck transition is absent, confirm both the Fisherman conversation and the Armored Shrimp/key step rather than searching randomly for another door.
Return to Castlevania: Castle’s Outskirts, Dracula’s Castle and Master’s Keep
1. Start the Castlevania route in Prisoners’ Quarters
Return to Castlevania begins in Prisoners’ Quarters. Take the Castlevania staircase and meet Richter and Alucard. The documented placement puts Alucard beside the elevator. This NPC encounter starts Castle’s Outskirts; without it, the Castlevania route has not been activated.
2. Follow Castle’s Outskirts into the early castle section
Castle’s Outskirts leads to the early Dracula’s Castle section and then to Defiled Necropolis. These are the first-run portions of the Castlevania progression. Follow the Castlevania-marked transitions instead of treating the castle door as a standard base-game exit.
3. Unlock the deeper castle route on later runs
After defeating Death and Dracula, later runs expose the deeper Dracula’s Castle route and Master’s Keep. This is a repeat-run boss gate: completing the first Castlevania boss progression changes what can appear in subsequent runs.

If you can see Castle’s Outskirts but not the deeper castle, that is expected until the Death/Dracula victory has been completed. If the opening staircase itself is missing, return to Prisoners’ Quarters and check the area around the elevator for the Castlevania encounter.

Which route should you take in a particular run?
| Route | Typical run position | Primary gate | Alternate source biomes | Alternate boss or endpoint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Bad Seed | Early | Hidden entrance and first-visit Arboretum key | Morass also from Prison Depths or Promenade with Teleportation Rune | Nest and Mama Tick replace the usual first-boss route. |
| Return to Castlevania | Early | Prisoners’ Quarters staircase and NPC encounter | None stated for the initial Castle’s Outskirts entry | Death and Dracula; later runs add the deeper castle and Master’s Keep. |
| Fatal Falls | Mid-run | Eligible transition to Fractured Shrines; Cultist Outfit on first Undying Shores visit | Black Bridge, Nest or Defiled Necropolis | Scarecrow in Mausoleum. |
| The Queen and the Sea | Late | Fisherman quest, Armored Shrimp and Crowned Key | Clock Room, Guardian’s Haven or Mausoleum for Infested Shipwreck | The Crown and Queen after Lighthouse. |
| Rise of the Giant | Late and repeat-run gated | Giant Rune | Graveyard is the documented rune entry | Giant through Guardian’s Haven. |
The early, mid-run and late labels describe when the documented transitions usually become available, not a separate difficulty setting. A run can still miss a route because its eligible source biome did not appear or because a one-time requirement has not been completed.
Complete unlock checklist
- Rise of the Giant: defeat the Giant once, obtain the Giant Rune, then use it at the Graveyard passage to Cavern.
- The Bad Seed: find the Prisoners’ Quarters plant-platform entrance, collect the Arboretum key on the first visit, reach Morass, then enter Nest and defeat Mama Tick.
- Fatal Falls: enter Fractured Shrines from Black Bridge, Nest or Defiled Necropolis; bring the Cultist Outfit for the first Undying Shores exit; continue to Mausoleum and Scarecrow.
- The Queen and the Sea: speak to the Fisherman in Toxic Sewers, visit the Stilt Village lighthouse keeper’s house, defeat the Armored Shrimp, take the Crowned Key, then enter Infested Shipwreck and continue through Lighthouse to the Crown and Queen.
- Return to Castlevania: take the Prisoners’ Quarters staircase, meet Richter and Alucard, complete Castle’s Outskirts and the early Dracula’s Castle route, defeat Death/Dracula, then revisit runs for deeper Dracula’s Castle and Master’s Keep.
Troubleshooting a missing biome or locked door
The DLC door is not present
Confirm that the relevant expansion is installed and owned on the platform you are playing. DLC ownership is independent of discovering an entrance, so a map route cannot unlock uninstalled content.
The rune gate does not respond
Match the rune to the route: Giant Rune for Graveyard to Cavern, Teleportation Rune for the Promenade approach to Morass, and Spider Rune for the Nest exit to Graveyard. Having a different rune does not satisfy the gate.

On the first visit, return with the Cultist Outfit and use the exit again. Once that first unlock is completed, later runs use the route normally.
Infested Shipwreck cannot be found
Complete both quest steps: speak to the Fisherman in Toxic Sewers and defeat the Armored Shrimp in the Stilt Village lighthouse keeper’s house, then collect the Crowned Key. Search only the documented source biomes—Clock Room, Guardian’s Haven or Mausoleum.
The Castlevania staircase or deeper castle is missing
For the first route, check Prisoners’ Quarters near the elevator and meet Richter/Alucard. For the deeper route, defeat Death and Dracula first; the later Dracula’s Castle and Master’s Keep progression is intentionally repeat-run gated.
Names or boss-cell doors differ from this guide
Platform build and difficulty can alter route names and boss-cell doors. The documented progression is current through PC and console Update 35 dated 19 August 2024, with mobile parity dated 18 February 2025. If your build presents a different label, use the gate condition and source-biome relationship as the reliable check.
