If you forgot your Samsung tablet’s screen PIN, pattern, or password, first check whether Samsung offers remote unlock for your exact model and country. It is not available everywhere. If no non-erasing option is offered, the remaining official routes may require a factory reset, which deletes data stored on the tablet and may still require the Google account previously used on it.
First, check the tablet and your account setup
Before choosing a recovery route, identify the tablet’s exact model and the country or market where it is supported. Samsung’s menu labels, available services, and reset instructions can differ by region, model, and software version.

- Check whether the tablet appears in your Samsung account’s SmartThings Find or Samsung Find service.
- Remote find features generally depend on setup completed before the lockout. Samsung’s US instructions say the device must be powered on, connected to a stable network, signed in to a Samsung account, and have remote controls enabled. See Samsung’s US instructions for locating a lost Galaxy phone or tablet.
- Check your local Samsung support page for the forgotten-PIN, pattern, or password procedure for your model. Do not assume that a feature described by Samsung in another country is available to you.
If remote controls were not enabled before you lost access, you generally cannot turn them on remotely from the locked tablet.

Possibly, but it depends on the model, market, and prior setup. Samsung Hong Kong documents unlocking a device through SmartThings Find when its pattern, PIN, or password has been forgotten. That guidance is for Hong Kong products; it does not establish that the same option is available in every country. Samsung India’s forgotten-credential instructions instead describe erasing the device. If your local Samsung instructions do not offer remote unlock, do not treat a remote erase option as an unlock that preserves your files. It resets the tablet and deletes its local data.
What each official recovery route means

Before you erase the tablet
A factory reset removes personal information, changes, and data, returning the device to factory state. Samsung India warns that data deleted through its forgotten-credential erase route cannot be recovered through that process. Samsung’s UK reset guidance likewise describes a reset as removing personal information, changes, and data: Samsung UK: How do I perform a factory reset on my mobile device?

- Check whether the files you need are already backed up or synced elsewhere. Samsung recommends backing up before remote erase, but that does not mean a new backup can reliably be made from every tablet that is already locked.
- Make sure you can sign in to the Google account previously registered on the tablet. Google device protection may require that account after reset; a reset does not remove this ownership check.
- Proceed only if you accept losing data that exists on the tablet but is not backed up.
Samsung’s US guidance explains the account check and remote-service requirements in How to locate your lost Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet. Samsung UK also describes Factory Reset Protection as a safeguard against unauthorized resets in its factory-reset guidance.
How to reset it safely
- Find the model and local instructions. Use the model number and your country’s Samsung support site to locate the reset procedure for that specific Galaxy Tab.
- Check for remote options first. If Samsung’s local instructions offer a non-erasing remote unlock and the tablet was configured for it, follow those instructions. Otherwise, distinguish a remote erase from an unlock.
- Confirm the consequences. Verify existing backups, confirm access to the previously used Google account, and decide whether the unbacked local data can be lost.
- Use only the matching reset directions. Samsung documents settings-based, hardware-button, and remote reset approaches, but a universal button sequence for all Galaxy tablets is not established. Follow the exact model’s official page rather than instructions for a phone or a different Tab generation. See Samsung’s factory reset guidance.
- Complete setup after the reset. If prompted by Google device protection, sign in with the Google account previously registered on the tablet.
If the official options do not work
Contact Samsung support or an authorized service center through the support channel for your country, especially if the tablet is not listed in your account, cannot connect, or presents a device-specific error. Samsung India’s forgotten-credential page directs users to an authorized service center when its documented route is not suitable: Samsung India support.

Avoid lock-bypass tools or services that promise data-preserving access without credible Samsung support. The official guidance cited here does not establish that such methods can safely remove the screen lock or ownership checks.
