First remove the shelf assembly from the refrigerator; only then separate the glass if the shelf has removable retainer clips at its rear corners. If those clips are absent, stop: Samsung says some shelf designs are not made to come apart, and prying can damage them. The exact removal steps vary by refrigerator model.
Remove the complete shelf assembly
Samsung’s [guide to removing and cleaning the glass shelf above the crisper drawers](https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS000 ಉ) covers one common shelf arrangement. Follow your model’s user manual if its tabs or shelf layout differ.

- Remove the crisper drawers beneath the shelf.
- Release the shelf from the drawer divider and, if applicable, the water-filter housing.
- Lift the shelf slightly and pull it out. Angle one side down if needed to clear the refrigerator opening.
- Set the assembly on a clean, flat surface before inspecting its frame.
Check whether the glass is designed to separate
Look for removable retainer clips at the rear left and right corners, where the glass meets the plastic frame. Their presence indicates the clip-release method may apply. Do not assume every Samsung shelf uses this design.

If the shelf has removable rear clips
- Turn the shelf over to access the clips.
- At one rear corner, press the clip tab nearest the center while slightly lifting that corner of the shelf.
- Remove the clip, then release the clip at the other rear corner the same way.
- Gently raise the glass and separate it from the frame. Reassemble the shelf in reverse order.
Handle the glass and frame gently. If either clip will not release as described, stop and check the manual for your refrigerator model rather than forcing it.

If there are no removable clips
Do not pry the glass out. Samsung says some shelves are not designed to separate from their frames, and attempting to do so can physically damage the shelf. For debris trapped in a nonseparable assembly, Samsung advises soaking the shelf in a water-and-bleach solution; follow the care directions in your model’s manual. If cleaning is still inadequate, replacement may be necessary.
Find a compatible replacement if needed
Choose a replacement shelf assembly using the refrigerator’s complete model code, not appearance alone. Samsung Canada’s shelves and drawers support overview points customers to parts lookup by model. Confirm compatibility for the exact refrigerator before ordering; a glass-only pane is not established as a universal fit.
