To unlink a PlayStation account from Epic Games, sign in to the correct Epic account, open Linked accounts, and select Unlink under the PlayStation account. Check where your game progress is stored before you confirm, because unlinking changes which console can reach that progress and purchases.
Check where your progress is stored first
Epic says Fortnite and Fall Guys progress and purchases are stored on the Epic Games account, not on the console. Unlinking the console removes its access to that data, but Epic states the data itself remains on the Epic account. The practical risk is what happens next on the console: if you launch Fortnite on the now-unlinked console, Epic may automatically create a new Epic account with no progression. Rocket League has a separate risk. Epic warns that unlinking the account where Rocket League progress is stored, which is typically the device or console you use most, can reset that account’s inventory and XP level. Before unlinking, confirm which Epic account holds your progress and which console you use to play.

- Rocket League inventory and XP: can reset if you unlink the account that holds them.
- Fortnite on the unlinked console: may create a new, empty Epic account. Avoid launching the game on that console until you have confirmed the right account is connected.
Epic’s unlinking guidance opens with a discouragement: “We highly discourage unlinking your console account from your Epic Games account for these reasons:” Only unlink if you have a specific reason, such as a wrong or unwanted connection.

How to unlink the PlayStation account
- Open epicgames.com in a browser and sign in to the Epic account that is linked to your PlayStation account. You can use your Epic email and password, or the console sign-in option. If the page shows the wrong signed-in account, sign out and sign in to the correct one. (Epic’s account-change guidance)
- Open your account settings and select Linked accounts. Locate the PlayStation or console account in the list.
- Select Unlink below that account. Read the on-screen warning and follow the instructions before you confirm.
Epic’s own instruction for this step reads: “Visit your Linked accounts page. Select Unlink below the console or platform account you want to unlink.” (Epic Games Player Support)
Unlinking to connect a different PlayStation account
Epic’s linking rules differ from a simple unlink. If you want to connect another PlayStation account, Epic may block the new account because a different account of the same platform type is already linked. Unlinking the current account alone may not remove that restriction.

- Remove the same-platform restriction by following the steps in Epic’s linking article.
- Select Link an account and choose the PlayStation platform icon.
Epic advises canceling an active Fortnite Crew subscription before unlinking, because the subscription will not provide new rewards after the account is removed. The linking article is the authority for the restriction steps: How do I link a different platform account to my Epic Games account? Epic states the restriction “can only be done once every 365 days and cannot be bypassed,” so repeated unlinking will not get you around the limit.

Troubleshooting
- The wrong Epic account is open: Sign out, then sign back in to the Epic account actually associated with the PlayStation account. You can use the console sign-in option if email sign-in does not show the right account.
- A different PlayStation account cannot be linked: Check whether the same-platform restriction applies, then follow Epic’s restriction-removal steps. If the restriction was removed within the past 365 days, you must wait for the next eligible window.
- You cannot access the Epic email: Use Epic’s account recovery request process, described in Epic’s unlink guidance for console accounts.
- The link looks unauthorized: Unlink the PlayStation account if it is still linked, submit a support ticket to Epic, and secure your Epic account.
