You can uninstall an Xbox game without using the save-deletion controls: open My games & apps, select the game’s management options, and choose its uninstall command. Leave the options under Saved data alone. Uninstalling removes the installed game files; deleting saved data is a separate action. Xbox Support’s cloud-save guidance distinguishes removing a local save from deleting it everywhere.
Uninstall the game, not its saved data
- Press the Xbox button and open My games & apps.
- Find and highlight the game you want to remove.
- Open the game’s management options. On Xbox Series X|S, the cited instructions use Manage game and add-ons.
- Choose the uninstall command. The Xbox Series X|S instructions use Uninstall all, then ask you to confirm.
The exact menu wording can vary by console or game. Choose the command that uninstalls the game, not an option in Saved data. Bethesda’s Xbox Series X|S instructions show the uninstall path and library route.

What the saved-data options mean
If you open the game’s Saved data menu, you may see deletion choices. They affect saves, not just the installed game files.

Xbox’s support guidance and the Microsoft Community reproduction describe these save controls separately from uninstalling a game. The Community answer reproduces Xbox Support’s wording: “Delete from console removes the local copy of this save. You can get it from the cloud the next time you play.”

Reinstall the game later
- Press the Xbox button and open My games & apps.
- Select See all, then open Full library.
- Choose All owned games, find the game, and select it to install.
These library labels come from Bethesda’s Xbox Series X|S reinstall steps. Once installed, a cloud-backed save may be retrieved when you next play, as described above.
When this does not settle what happens to progress
The cloud-save instructions do not establish how every game handles online progress, account-linked progression, or data managed by a publisher. If you are concerned about a particular game’s progress, check that publisher’s current support guidance before deleting anything under Saved data. For an ordinary uninstall, the practical distinction remains: use the game’s uninstall control and avoid the save-deletion choices.
