The quickest way to make String from Plant Fiber
- Collect Plant Fiber by harvesting bushes in Embervale, picking up loose fiber items, or growing bushes from Shrub Seedlings.
- Open the crafting interface and select Manual Crafting.
- Find the String recipe. Its ingredient is listed as Any Fiber, so Plant Fiber qualifies.
- Craft one or more batches. Each craft consumes 3 fiber and creates 1 String immediately.
You do not need to wait for a station to unlock this basic recipe. Plant Fiber itself unlocks String crafting, so collecting your first fiber is the practical starting point.

Where to get Plant Fiber
Harvest bushes
Bushes throughout Embervale are the main renewable source. Explore with an empty portion of inventory, interact with bushes as you travel, and collect the fiber before returning to a crafting area. Because bushes are spread through the world, gathering while exploring is usually more efficient than making a special trip for a tiny amount.
Pick up loose fiber items
Plant Fiber can also exist as a physical item in the world. Pick up these loose items whenever you see them; they count toward the same fiber pool used by the String recipe.

Grow bushes from Shrub Seedlings
Shrub Seedlings provide a way to grow bushes rather than relying only on naturally occurring plants. This is useful when you want a repeatable supply near your base. The important distinction is that the seedlings support future Plant Fiber gathering; they do not change the String recipe or its conversion rate.
What “Any Fiber” means
String does not require a material named specifically “Plant Fiber.” The recipe accepts the broader Any Fiber category. Plant Fiber is therefore a valid input, and the crafting screen can consume it when you confirm String. This category wording also explains why later stations can use the same general ingredient while offering different quantities and production times.

Manual Crafting: the no-station option
Recipe and timing
Manual Crafting uses 3 Any Fiber to produce 1 String. The listed time is instant: as soon as the craft completes, the String is available for inventory or another recipe.
When to use it
- You have not unlocked a Hunter workstation.
- You need only a few String immediately.
- You are away from your base and do not want to return to a station.
- You want to test whether a fiber item is accepted before committing to a larger production run.
How to craft several String
Decide how many String you need, multiply that number by three, and keep the resulting amount of fiber available. For example, 6 String requires 18 Any Fiber through Manual Crafting. The interface handles the actual conversion; the calculation simply prevents starting a job without enough material.

The table shows three different trade-offs. Manual Crafting has the shortest wait because it has no wait at all, but it consumes the most fiber per String. The Spinning Wheel reduces the cost to two fiber per String while introducing a 20-second processing time. The Spinning Machine is organized around a 10-fiber batch and returns 10 String after 1 minute 30 seconds, making it suitable when you need a larger run rather than a single emergency item.

Using the Spinning Wheel
What changes
The Spinning Wheel recipe uses 2 Any Fiber for 1 String and lists a 0:20 crafting time. Plant Fiber can be supplied as the Any Fiber input. Compared with Manual Crafting, every String saves one unit of fiber, but production is no longer immediate.
When the wheel is the better choice
- You have the Hunter’s Spinning Wheel available and can wait 20 seconds per craft.
- You are converting a meaningful stockpile and want to stretch it further.
- You are preparing several recipes that consume String and do not need every unit right away.
For a simple comparison, 20 Plant Fiber can make 6 String with Manual Crafting, with 2 fiber left over, while the Spinning Wheel can make 10 String from the same 20 fiber. The difference is efficiency, not the type of ingredient: both routes accept Plant Fiber under Any Fiber.
What the wheel does not do
The wheel does not make String instantly. If you need one unit while standing away from the station, Manual Crafting remains the direct option. The wheel is a processing choice for better material usage, not a universal replacement for immediate crafting.
Using the Spinning Machine
Batch recipe
The Spinning Machine accepts 10 Any Fiber and produces 10 String in a listed 1:30. That is a 90-second batch, so start it when you can leave the station working while you perform another task.

Why it suits sustained production
The machine’s input and output are both expressed in tens. Instead of repeatedly confirming individual String crafts, you load a complete batch and receive 10 String together. This makes it practical for building a reserve before a project that consumes a lot of String.
Planning batches
Reserve fiber in groups of ten when you intend to use the machine. A stock of 30 Any Fiber supports three listed batches and returns 30 String after the corresponding processing cycles. If you need only one or two String, the machine’s fixed batch size may be less convenient than Manual Crafting or the Spinning Wheel.
How to choose the best recipe
Choose Manual Crafting when access matters most
Use the manual recipe if you have not yet reached the progression required for the Hunter workstations, if your need is urgent, or if your fiber supply is already sufficient for the project. Its decisive advantage is availability and zero processing time.
Choose the Spinning Wheel when fiber is scarce
Select the wheel when saving Plant Fiber is more important than receiving String immediately. At 2 fiber per String, it provides the best single-String ratio among the two recipes that make one String at a time. The cost is the listed 20-second wait.

Load the machine when you expect continuing String demand and can use its 10-unit batch. Its 1:30 cycle is easier to justify when you will consume the entire output, rather than when you are solving a one-item shortage.

A practical decision sequence
- Check whether the String is needed now. If yes, use Manual Crafting.
- If it can wait, check whether the Spinning Wheel is available and whether reducing fiber consumption matters. If both answers are yes, use the wheel.
- If you need at least 10 String and have 10-fiber groups ready, load the Spinning Machine for batch production.
- Keep any remaining Plant Fiber that another recipe explicitly requests instead of converting every unit automatically.
Do not convert your entire Plant Fiber stock
String accepts Any Fiber, but that flexibility does not mean every Plant Fiber should become String. Some recipes explicitly require raw Plant Fiber. Before processing a full inventory, reserve the amount needed for those recipes and convert only the surplus. This matters most when using the Spinning Machine, because its natural workflow encourages loading large batches.
A simple storage method
- Keep one reserve stack of raw Plant Fiber for recipes that name it directly.
- Use a separate stack or container for String so finished material is easy to count.
- When gathering, record the next project’s String requirement before choosing a conversion route.
- Prefer the Spinning Wheel or Machine for planned production, and keep Manual Crafting for immediate gaps.
Other ways to obtain String
Spider drops
Spiders can drop String. This is useful when you need String immediately and want to preserve Plant Fiber for another recipe. It is a separate acquisition route rather than a modification of the fiber recipes, so the amount obtained depends on what drops during play.

String can also appear as a physical item in the world. Pickups are worth collecting when encountered, especially if you are short by only a few units and do not want to spend raw fiber.
When alternatives are preferable
Use drops or pickups when availability is the limiting factor: you have no Plant Fiber, your raw fiber is reserved, or you are already exploring an area where String is present. Use crafting when you have a reliable fiber supply and want predictable output.
Troubleshooting String crafting
The recipe is not visible
Confirm that you have obtained Plant Fiber. Obtaining Plant Fiber unlocks the String recipe. If you have not gathered or picked up any fiber yet, collect it first and check Manual Crafting again.
The game will not accept my Plant Fiber
Look at the ingredient label. String requires Any Fiber, and Plant Fiber belongs to that category. If the available quantity is insufficient, gather more fiber or reduce the requested craft amount. Do not substitute unrelated plant materials unless the crafting screen identifies them as fiber.

I cannot find the Spinning Wheel or Spinning Machine
Both are progression-dependent Hunter workstations. Their absence does not block String production: use Manual Crafting until the relevant station becomes available.
I need String faster than a station can produce it
Manual Crafting is instant, so it is the fallback for an immediate requirement. You can also check for Spider drops or physical String pickups while exploring, preserving your fiber in the process.
I ran out of Plant Fiber after making String
Gather more from bushes, collect loose world items, or grow bushes from Shrub Seedlings. For future runs, reserve raw Plant Fiber for recipes that explicitly call for it before loading a conversion recipe.
Examples for common needs
One String for an immediate craft
Open Manual Crafting and spend 3 Plant Fiber. The result is 1 String instantly. This is the simplest route when the next recipe cannot wait.
Ten String while conserving fiber
With a Spinning Wheel, provide 20 Any Fiber and process ten individual crafts at the listed 0:20 time per craft. The total wall-clock time depends on how the station queues or runs those crafts; the documented per-craft time is 20 seconds, so do not treat it as an instant conversion.
Thirty String as a planned batch
Supply 30 Any Fiber to the Spinning Machine as three 10-fiber batches. Each batch is listed at 1:30 and returns 10 String. If the machine processes batches sequentially, plan for three cycles; the recipe data establishes the batch size and listed cycle, not a guaranteed parallel-processing behavior.
