Find the right ice-maker control for your model
First check the refrigerator’s display for an Ice Maker Off indicator. On many Samsung models, a lit indicator means ice production is disabled. Some Top Freezer models instead use an Ice On indicator, which should be lit when the maker is enabled. Dual-maker refrigerators may have separate indicators for each maker.

Samsung says control-panel layouts differ by model. If you are unsure which instructions apply, find the refrigerator’s model number and consult its user manual or Samsung’s ice-maker test and reset guide.

Navigation-button display
- Wake the display if it is asleep.
- Use the center or navigation control to select the blinking Ice Maker indicator.
- Use the arrow controls to choose On, then confirm as prompted by the display or your manual.
This sequence is an example for panels that use menu navigation, not a universal command.

Dedicated Ice Maker or Ice Maker Off button
Press the dedicated control to change the ice-maker status. Some models require you to hold the button for about three seconds. Check the panel labels and your model’s manual rather than assuming a quick press will work.
Family Hub, app controls, and dual makers
On some Family Hub refrigerators, enable the maker in Fridge Manager. Supported smart models may also offer a setting in SmartThings. Dual-maker models can have separate status indicators or controls; select the maker you want and check that its status is not Off. Available settings depend on the refrigerator model.

Allow time for ice production
Samsung UK advises waiting at least 12 hours after installation before expecting ice. It says a bucket may take 24 hours or more to fill, and gives a typical rate of 10–12 cubes every 45–60 minutes depending on temperature, usage, and ice-maker type. These are manufacturer guidance figures, not a guaranteed rate for every refrigerator.
For first use, Samsung UK recommends running the maker for 1–2 days and discarding the first 1–3 batches. Samsung Canada gives the same 1–2 day direction for dual makers and advises discarding the ice produced during that period. Follow the recommendation applicable to your model.

If the ice maker is on but no ice appears
Separate a setting issue from a production problem: confirm the maker is enabled first. If it is on, check these basic conditions before moving to a test or service request:
- Make sure the ice bucket is fully seated and not blocked; remove anything other than ice from it.
- Check that the relevant compartment or door closes properly and its seal is not obstructed.
- For a dual-maker refrigerator, confirm you enabled the maker connected to the bucket you are checking.
If those checks do not help, use the built-in Test button and follow the reset steps for your exact model. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide describes a brief power cycle only within its test-button troubleshooting instructions; do not treat it as a universal reset. If the maker does not respond to its model-specific test and reset steps, contact Samsung support for service.

When a replacement might be needed
Do not choose an ice-maker assembly by appearance or by refrigerator brand alone. If service determines a replacement is needed, it must be compatible with the exact refrigerator model. Samsung’s support guidance does not establish a universal replacement part number.
