Short answer: the available information does not establish that Adblock Plus for Android has been independently security-audited, so it would be too strong to call it proven safe or malware-free. The name also refers to two different Android options: Adblock Browser, a standalone browser, and ABP for Samsung Browser, an add-on for Samsung’s browser. Neither should be mistaken for a phone-wide ad blocker.
What does “Adblock Plus Android” mean?
Adblock Plus’s Android instructions distinguish two products. ABP for Samsung Browser is an integration used inside Samsung Browser. Adblock Browser is a separate browser with ad blocking built in; its Google Play listing is for that browser, not the Samsung Browser integration.

Adblock Plus’s support guidance is explicit: “On Android, Adblock Plus only works with Samsung Browser. Ads cannot be blocked in other browsers or in apps such as YouTube, games, or social media.” That statement describes the Samsung integration’s scope; Adblock Browser blocks ads while you browse within that browser.
Is Adblock Plus for Android safe?
The sources available support a qualified assessment of the products’ disclosures and stated design, not a definitive security verdict. No independent security audit or hands-on evaluation of the current Android build is established here. That means there is not enough evidence to certify the app as safe, but also no basis in these sources to declare it malware.

Google Play’s Data safety section is useful for understanding what the developer reports, but Google explains that these entries are developer-provided disclosures, not an independent security certification. They can vary with an app’s use, region, age, or version. Google also notes that Data safety and an app’s technical permissions are different views: information processed on-device may not be reported as collected. Check both the app’s current permissions and the developer’s policy rather than treating the Play summary as an audit.

What the Play listing declares
The Google Play listing for Adblock Browser, marked updated June 2, 2026, says the app may share Location, Photos and videos, and Audio with third parties. It says the app may collect App activity, App info and performance, and Device or other IDs; that data is encrypted in transit; and that users can request data deletion. What the company policy says about browser and DNS data
Adblock Plus’s privacy policy says Adblock Browser for Android is based on Chromium. The company says some processing is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Chrome Privacy Notice. It also says eyeo controls Chromium updates and that certain Chrome usage statistics and crash reports are disabled.
The policy also describes an optional DNS-blocking mode. If a user opts in and changes device DNS settings to Adblock Plus DNS, DNS requests are processed through Adblock Plus cloud DNS servers supplied by Whalebone. The company says Whalebone does not store DNS request data; Adblock Plus may access requests during processing for aggregate debugging and product-improvement analysis and device-specific blocking statistics. It says blocked-domain requests are aggregated per device using a unique ID. This is the company’s description of the data flow, not an independent measurement of network behavior.

Why an ad blocker may need page access
Adblock Plus says effective browser-level blocking can require access to page URLs and the ability to read page contents to find ads that were not stopped before loading. The company also states: “Adblock Plus does not track your browsing history, record what you type in forms (including passwords), or alter anything you submit on a website.” Treat that as a vendor assurance, not a claim independently verified by the sources cited here. Consider whether the permission requested by the specific product makes sense for its function, and review the current permission screen before granting it.
Why am I still seeing ads?
First check which product you installed and where you are seeing the ad. The Samsung Browser integration is limited to Samsung Browser; it does not block ads in another browser or in separate apps. Adblock Browser’s built-in blocking applies while browsing in Adblock Browser, not across the rest of the phone.

Acceptable Ads is another reason some ads may remain. Adblock Plus says nonintrusive ads are allowed by default, and that users can turn the feature off to hide all ads. The company’s help documentation says the criteria were developed with its community in 2011 and handed to an independent committee in 2017. These are historical dates reported by the company, not measures of blocking effectiveness.

To check the setting, open the ad-blocking settings for the product you actually use and look for the Acceptable Ads option. The menu path differs between Adblock Browser and ABP for Samsung Browser, so do not follow instructions for one product in the other. Adblock Plus provides Android instructions for disabling Acceptable Ads in Adblock Browser.

The available sources do not establish an independent comparison of the two options’ security or blocking effectiveness. Choose based on where you browse and which product’s disclosures and controls you are comfortable with, not on an unsupported safety ranking.
How to make a cautious choice
- Confirm the exact app or integration before installing: Adblock Browser and ABP for Samsung Browser are not interchangeable.
- Read the current Google Play Data safety section and the app’s permission prompts. The Play disclosures summarized above concern Adblock Browser.
- Review the company privacy policy, especially if you are considering opting into its DNS-blocking mode.
- Check whether Acceptable Ads is enabled if you want all ads blocked within the product’s supported browsing scope.
- Keep expectations limited to that scope: neither product is established by these sources as a system-wide Android ad blocker.
Adblock Plus describes its browser extensions generally as intercepting browser network requests and matching them against active filter-list rules, including EasyList and EasyPrivacy; Acceptable Ads is enabled in the default filter configuration.
