Open Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual, then turn on Mono Audio. Apple says this makes the left and right speakers play the same content. Apple’s iOS 26 iPhone User Guide documents the setting and its effect.
Turn on Mono Audio
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Audio & Visual.
- Turn on Mono Audio.
If you do not see the control, check which iOS version is installed or search Settings for “Mono Audio.” Menu wording can vary by language and may change in later iOS versions.

What Mono Audio changes
Mono Audio sends the same content to the left and right sides instead of keeping distinct left and right audio channels. This can be useful when listening with one earbud or when stereo separation makes part of a recording harder to hear.

It does not amplify sound. Apple describes adjusting certain frequencies and amplifying soft sounds as separate options in Headphone Accommodations for supported Apple and Beats headphones.

Mono Audio and Stereo Audio Balance are different
| Setting | What it changes | When it may help |
|---|---|---|
| Mono Audio | Plays the same content on both sides. | When you want the left and right channels combined, such as when listening with one earbud. |
| Stereo Audio Balance | Shifts stereo balance toward the left or right. | When you want to adjust which side of a stereo signal is louder. |
Both controls are in Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual, but they do different jobs.
What to know when using AirPods
Apple’s AirPods User Guide says Mono Audio can be enabled in iPhone Settings under Accessibility and Audio & Visual. Apple also notes that while Mono Audio is on, you cannot use Spatial Audio and head tracking.

Do you need Headphone Accommodations?
No. Headphone Accommodations is a separate feature for supported Apple and Beats headphones. It can adjust certain frequencies and amplify soft sounds, and its adjustments can apply to phone calls and media. You do not need to enable it to use Mono Audio.
