Instagram does not have one universal monetization switch. To see what you can enable, open your account’s Professional Dashboard and check its monetization options and eligibility status. If a feature is available, follow the setup steps Instagram presents for that feature; availability can depend on your account, country, and whether a program is invitation-only.
How to check and turn on monetization on Instagram
- Use a professional account. Instagram’s monetization features are associated with professional accounts. If you use a personal account, switch to a professional account in Instagram’s account settings before checking for creator tools.
- Open your Professional Dashboard. In the Instagram app, go to your profile and open the Professional Dashboard. Meta specifically directs creators to check Gifts eligibility there: “You can check your eligibility by going to your Professional Dashboard on Instagram.”
- Review the monetization and eligibility information shown for your account. Available tools and requirements may differ by feature, location, and account. The dashboard is the practical place to see what Instagram currently offers you.
- Choose an available feature and complete its setup. Follow the on-screen instructions, including any policy, payment, or payout steps Instagram displays. There is no single confirmed tap-by-tap path that applies across every feature, device, app version, and country.
If a monetization feature does not appear, it may not be available to your account or country, or it may be limited to invited creators. Check the dashboard again later and look for any invitation or in-app eligibility notice; do not assume that an absent feature can be enabled with a separate switch.

Which ways to earn may appear?
Instagram monetization includes different routes rather than one program. Fans can support creators through Gifts, subscribers can pay for exclusive access, and brands can pay creators for partnerships. Bonuses and ads on profiles have been described as limited tests, not generally available settings.

Gifts: fan support on Reels
With Gifts, fans buy Stars and send virtual gifts to creators, including on Reels. Meta’s update to its November 2023 announcement stated that, at that time, creators needed a professional account, had to be over 18, comply with Partner Monetization Policies, and have at least 5,000 followers. Those are dated requirements, not a guarantee of current eligibility in every country. Check your Professional Dashboard for the rules and availability that apply to you.

Subscriptions: recurring access for fans
Subscriptions let creators offer exclusive content and experiences in exchange for recurring payments. Meta reported more than 1 million active subscriptions to creators through Instagram Subscriptions in an update dated April 3, 2024; that is a historical platform figure, not a current count or an estimate of what an individual creator will earn. Meta also said it was waiving subscription fees for creators at that time and would give six months’ notice before changing that approach. That 2024 statement should not be treated as a current fee guarantee.
Brand partnerships and affiliate links require disclosure
Branded content covers creator or publisher content featuring or influenced by a business partner in exchange for value. That value can include payment, a free or loaned product or service, or an affiliate link. Meta Help Centre says: “Meta Branded Content Policies require that you use our paid partnership label whenever posting branded content.” Use the label when your post meets that definition, even if you received a product rather than cash.

Creator Marketplace is another way for brands and creators to connect around partnership opportunities. Meta’s February 2024 announcement described brand-side creator recommendations; it does not establish current access for every creator. Check the product and your account for availability.
Why you may not see bonuses or ads on profile
Meta described its holiday, New Year, and spring bonuses as limited-time, invite-only tests. Its stated 2024 bonus test was in the United States, South Korea, and Japan. In a February 2024 update, Meta described Ads on Profile as a test for selected creators in the United States, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. These announcements document historical tests, not a present-day way for any creator to switch on bonuses or profile ads. Rely on your dashboard or an Instagram invitation for current access.

What to do if no monetization option is available
- Confirm that you are using a professional account, then revisit the Professional Dashboard.
- Read the eligibility notice for the specific feature; requirements are not interchangeable across Gifts, Subscriptions, and partnerships.
- Check whether the feature is available in your country or is restricted to invited creators.
- For brand or affiliate content, follow the paid partnership labeling rules when you exchange content for value, even if Instagram does not offer a separate platform payout feature.
Instagram does not publish a universal earnings rate or guarantee that enabling a feature will produce income. What you can configure, and any payment or payout steps, depend on the feature and the information Instagram displays for your account.
