This setting addresses connection-triggered playback; it is not a universal autoplay switch for every music app or playback behavior.
Stop Samsung Music from starting when a device connects
- Open Samsung Music.
- Tap More options (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Settings.
- Turn off Allow external devices to start playback.
Samsung documents this setting for preventing playback when a phone connects to a car or another external device. See Samsung New Zealand’s instructions and Samsung Service Korea’s guidance. Menu wording or placement may vary by region and app version; the support pages do not specify a universal version range.

If music still plays automatically
Check which app actually begins playback and review the connected car or media system’s settings. Samsung’s instructions document the Samsung Music control, but do not establish one fallback setting that applies to every phone, car, or software version.
When “autoplay” means something else
Another track follows the current song
Check Samsung Music’s queue and playback-order controls. Shuffle changes the order to random playback, while repeat options include no repeat, repeat all, or repeat one. These controls affect which tracks play; they do not prevent an external device from starting playback. See Samsung’s guide to the Music player app.

Playback should stop after a set time
Use the Auto-off timer: in Samsung Music, go to More > Settings > Auto-off timer and choose a duration. Playback stops when that time elapses. This is a sleep timer, not the setting for blocking playback initiated by a connected device. Samsung’s instructions are at Samsung Service Korea.
