To stop live mid-rolls on a looping YouTube livestream, open the stream’s monetization settings in YouTube Studio, select Manual for live mid-rolls, and do not insert any ad breaks. YouTube Help says that no mid-rolls will be served in Manual mode when no breaks are inserted. This controls live mid-rolls; it does not necessarily turn off pre-roll ads or all monetization.
Set live mid-rolls to Manual with no breaks
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live.
- Open the existing scheduled stream or schedule a new one.
- Open Edit → Monetization.
- Set monetization to On if you want to retain monetization features other than live mid-rolls.
- Under the live ad settings, select Manual. Do not insert any mid-roll breaks.
YouTube Help’s “Monetize your live stream” instructions state: “If you do not insert any mid-roll ad breaks, no mid-rolls will be served.” The setting applies to the live stream; YouTube’s documented procedure does not describe a separate setting or exception for a livestream because its source video loops.

Choose the right live mid-roll mode

YouTube notes that Scheduled or Manual mode may have lower earnings potential than Automatic. That is a tradeoff, not a guarantee about any channel’s results. YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled live automatic mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That platform-reported comparison is not a forecast for an individual channel or a reason to use automatic ads when avoiding interruptions matters more.
What this setting does—and does not—turn off
Manual mode with no inserted breaks addresses live mid-rolls. YouTube’s live-stream documentation says pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on when monetization is on for a live stream. Turning monetization off is a broader choice if you want to disable monetization rather than just avoid live mid-rolls.

Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve: YouTube says its systems consider factors such as slot quality, advertiser demand, and viewer experience. Viewers who do not receive an ad continue watching; viewers who do receive one rejoin after the ad ends or they skip it.
Use Delay ads only for a temporary pause
In the Live Control Room, Delay ads pauses automatic mid-roll ads for 10 minutes. It does not suppress manually placed breaks, so it is not a substitute for removing manual breaks or choosing Manual with no breaks when you want to prevent creator-inserted mid-rolls.

Check an archived replay separately
YouTube documents separate mid-roll controls for eligible long-form videos, including an option to turn mid-rolls off for an eligible video. The available instructions do not establish whether changing a live stream’s ad setting also changes its archived replay. If the replay matters, open that video’s own Monetization settings and verify them there.

Troubleshoot if mid-rolls still appear
- Confirm the selected mode: Reopen the stream’s Edit → Monetization settings and check that live mid-rolls are set to Manual, not Automatic or Scheduled.
- Check for inserted breaks: In Manual mode, remove any mid-roll breaks; YouTube’s stated no-mid-roll outcome applies when none are inserted.
- Separate live ads from replay ads: If the ad appears on the archived video rather than during the live broadcast, inspect the replay’s own Monetization settings.
- Do not rely on Delay ads for manual breaks: That control delays automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes, but manually placed breaks still display while the delay is active.
YouTube Studio’s labels may change over time, so use the live stream editor and its Monetization settings as your navigation landmarks.
