To turn off PC case LEDs, use the control that manages them: start with the case’s LED/RGB button, then check its lighting hub or motherboard software. If the lights you mean are motherboard LEDs that stay on after shutdown, look for a separate BIOS setting for sleep or soft-off. The exact controls depend on your case and motherboard models; there is no universal switch.
First identify which lights you want to turn off
Case fans, light strips, motherboard lighting, and small status or diagnostic LEDs may be controlled separately. A motherboard setting might not control a separate case hub, and a case button may not affect LEDs connected directly to the motherboard.

- Case lighting: LEDs in the case fans or strips, often managed by a case button or lighting controller.
- Motherboard lighting: LEDs on the board or devices connected to its RGB/ARGB headers, which may be managed by motherboard software or BIOS.
- Lights after shutdown: LEDs that remain on in sleep or soft-off may have a dedicated BIOS setting for that power state.
Check the case and motherboard model names, then use the matching official manual. This is especially important before trying a button-hold pattern or a BIOS menu path.

Look near the case’s front or top controls for a button marked LED or RGB. Depending on the model, it may cycle lighting effects, switch the controller to motherboard sync, or turn the lights off. Follow the case manual rather than assuming another case’s press duration will work.

For example, the MSI MAG PANO M110R/M110L manual says a short press cycles effects, a two-second hold syncs the lighting to the motherboard, and a six-second hold turns the lights off. The manual says the lights flash three times to confirm; pressing once turns them on again. Those timings apply to those cases, not to PC case buttons generally.
Check the hub or software that controls the LEDs
If the case button does not switch off the lights, find out how the fans or strips are connected. They may be connected to a case lighting hub or directly to RGB/ARGB headers on the motherboard. Use the controller or motherboard lighting software intended for that connection; do not assume one brand’s app will control every device.

If the lights are managed by the motherboard, its lighting software may provide an off option. You can also check BIOS lighting controls, but available choices and supported components vary by motherboard. Confirm the exact board model before following a vendor-specific path.

Some BIOS setups offer controls for both the PC’s working state and its sleep, hibernate, or soft-off state. These options can affect motherboard lighting without necessarily controlling a separate case hub.

The ASUS PRIME/Pro/ProArt/TUF GAMING B550 and A520 BIOS manual describes an AURA ON/OFF control with All On, Aura Only, Aura Off, and Stealth Mode choices. It defines Stealth Mode as disabling all Aura and functional LEDs, and documents lighting behavior separately for working and sleep, hibernate, or soft-off states. These controls are not available on every motherboard.
Other vendors’ examples are equally model-specific. MSI’s 2019 guidance covers listed X570 motherboards and says to disable RGB Light Control and Indication LED Control; EZ Debug LEDs are an exception. Its November 2024 FAQ describes an EZ LED Switch for motherboard RGB and RGB/ARGB devices connected to headers on particular Z890 models. GIGABYTE’s 2018 FAQ describes disabling Power LED Support for one specified mini PC revision. These examples are not general BIOS instructions:

Stop LEDs that stay on after shutdown
If lights only remain on when the PC is off, look for a BIOS option specifically for the S5 or soft-off state. ASRock’s FAQ, dated July 1, 2021, says to disable “Turn On Onboard LED in S5.” It gives these example menu paths:
- AMD example: Advanced → Onboard Devices Configuration.
- Intel example: Advanced → Chipset Configuration.
After changing the setting, save with F10 as the FAQ instructs. BIOS versions and menu layouts can differ, so verify the setting against your board model and firmware. See ASRock’s S5 LED FAQ.

If the lights still will not turn off
- Write down the case, motherboard, and lighting hub or controller model numbers.
- Check which device the LEDs connect to: the case controller, a motherboard RGB/ARGB header, or another controller.
- Use the corresponding official manual or support page to find the control for that device and power state.
- If the controller is missing or incompatible, consider a compatible case lighting controller only after checking its fan, LED, and motherboard connector compatibility against the case manual.
Do not buy a controller until you know how the installed LEDs are wired and what connectors they require.
