Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf a Fire TV Stick or Roku picture looks cropped, stretched, zoomed in, or too small, check the television’s Picture or Display settings first. A Fire TV Stick’s Calibrate Display screen can help you spot a fit problem; on a Roku TV, Picture size is available on supported models. The exact control depends on your TV and whether Roku is built into the television or comes from a separate player.
Aspect ratio or screen fit: what needs adjusting?
Aspect ratio describes the proportions of the picture, such as a widescreen image. Screen fit determines how that image is scaled to the TV panel. If the edges of the picture are cut off or the image looks enlarged, the issue may be the television’s overscan or fit setting rather than the streaming device’s output resolution. Overscan is screen area reserved by some TVs, and its behavior varies by manufacturer; Amazon’s Fire TV design documentation explains the concept in its overscan guidance.

Resolution and fit are separate controls. Fire TV’s Display & Sounds menu includes resolution and related display management, but changing resolution is not a guaranteed fix for cropping or scaling. Amazon’s Fire TV navigation help describes that menu area.

- On the Fire TV home screen, open Settings > Display & Sounds > Display > Calibrate Display.
- Look at the gray arrows on the calibration screen. Use their tips as a guide to see whether the displayed image reaches the screen edges.
- If the arrows do not reach the edges, open your television’s own Picture or Display menu and look for a screen-fit control.
- Try the setting that best matches the problem. Depending on the TV, its label may be Zoom, Overscan, Just Fit, Scale, Picture Size, Aspect Ratio, Dot to Dot, or Full. These are examples, not options every television provides.
Amazon staff guidance gives this calibration route and directs users to the connected TV’s menu when the image does not fit; the available label depends on the television. See the Amazon support answer about fitting a Fire TV Stick picture.

Adjust Picture size on a Roku TV
These steps apply to a television with Roku TV built in, not automatically to every standalone Roku player connected to another brand’s TV.
- Switch the Roku TV to the input or content whose picture you want to adjust.
- Press the remote’s Star/options button.
- Choose Picture Settings > Customize picture.
- If the model offers it, select Picture size. Roku describes this setting as “Auto detect and show best image size.”
Roku says which picture adjustments appear depends on the TV model. Its Roku TV picture settings instructions cover this built-in TV menu; they do not establish that a Roku streaming player has the same control.

If you have a Roku player connected to another TV
Start with the television’s Picture or Display menu, since that TV controls its own screen-fit options. Look for the fit labels listed above, but check the TV’s manual for the exact names and behavior for your model. Roku TV instructions should not be assumed to apply to a separate Roku player; the device model and television model both matter when looking for a precise path.

If the picture still does not fit

- On a Fire TV Stick, use Calibrate Display as an alignment guide, then look for the television’s fit control if the picture remains cropped or undersized.
- Check for a Fire TV software update if basic fit checks do not help. Amazon staff included an update check in a December 8, 2022 answer about a Fire TV Stick 4K.
- Consult the television maker’s model-specific manual if the relevant setting is missing or its effect is unclear. Menu names and availability vary.
