To disable ChatGPT on an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > ChatGPT and switch off Use ChatGPT. Turn off Setup Prompts as well if you do not want Siri to suggest ChatGPT. On a Mac, use System Settings > Siri > ChatGPT > Use ChatGPT; Macs using Siri AI may instead show System Settings > Siri > Extensions > ChatGPT > Use Extension.
This removes the ChatGPT extension from Apple’s supported entry points. It does not, by itself, disable every Apple Intelligence feature.

Apple exposes two similarly named groups of controls, but only one disables the integration:

The exact labels and their location can vary with the operating system, device, language, and region. If you see Use Extension rather than Use ChatGPT, it is the integration master switch for that Mac setup.

Turn off ChatGPT on an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Under Extensions, tap ChatGPT.
- Turn off Use ChatGPT.
- If Siri should stop offering ChatGPT, turn off Setup Prompts as well when that option is displayed.
The same Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > ChatGPT > Use ChatGPT control is the documented route on iPadOS and visionOS. After the switch is off, Apple Intelligence entry points that rely on this extension no longer send requests to ChatGPT through the system integration.
If Siri still asks whether to use ChatGPT
Check that Use ChatGPT is off, not merely a confirmation setting. Then return to the ChatGPT extension page and disable Setup Prompts. Setup Prompts controls Siri’s suggestions to set up or use ChatGPT; it is separate from the permission prompt shown before an individual request.
Remove ChatGPT from Siri on a Mac

- Open System Settings.
- Click Siri in the sidebar.
- Click ChatGPT.
- Turn off Use ChatGPT.
- Turn off Setup Prompts too if you also want to suppress suggestions and the option is shown.
Macs using Siri AI and an Extensions submenu
- Open System Settings and select Siri.
- Click Extensions.
- Select ChatGPT.
- Turn off Use Extension.
- Disable Setup Prompts if available and unwanted suggestions continue.
The second route is not a different service. It is the location Apple uses for the extension on Macs whose Siri settings expose the newer Siri AI layout.

Do not confuse disabling ChatGPT with changing confirmation prompts
Confirm ChatGPT Requests (also labeled Confirm Requests in some interfaces) changes whether Siri asks for permission before sending an eligible request. It does not remove ChatGPT from Apple Intelligence.

Even when confirmation is disabled, Siri still asks before sending a file to ChatGPT. If your goal is that no request reaches ChatGPT through Apple’s integration, turn off Use ChatGPT or Use Extension, rather than relying on confirmation settings.
What turning off the extension changes
Apple lists ChatGPT support in several Apple Intelligence features. Disabling the extension removes ChatGPT as a provider from these system entry points:

This is a targeted opt-out. Apple’s switch does not claim to disable the rest of Apple Intelligence, Siri itself, Writing Tools as a whole, Image Playground as a whole, visual intelligence, or unrelated Shortcuts. It removes ChatGPT from the Apple Intelligence integration.

The ChatGPT extension is optional and is off by default. You can use it without creating or signing in to a ChatGPT account.

When the extension is used, Apple says that the request, any attachment, and limited context can be sent to ChatGPT. The listed context includes your time zone, country, device type, language, and the feature being used. The extension therefore involves more than the words you dictate to Siri when a request is eligible for ChatGPT.
Using ChatGPT without an account
Apple says that, without an account, OpenAI does not receive information tied to your Apple Account. OpenAI must process the information only to fulfill the request, subject to legal requirements. Turning off the extension prevents these Apple-to-ChatGPT requests from being made through the system integration.
Using a signed-in ChatGPT account
If you sign in, requests are governed by the settings and privacy policies associated with that ChatGPT account. Account use can also provide the account’s history and other account-level behavior, so disabling the extension is the relevant device-level control when you no longer want Apple Intelligence to use that account connection.
Apple describes the permission model this way: you control when ChatGPT is used and are asked before information is shared. OpenAI separately states that Siri always asks permission before sending a file to ChatGPT. Those assurances concern the request flow; they do not make Confirm Requests equivalent to disabling the extension.

Why the ChatGPT setting may be missing
A missing ChatGPT entry does not necessarily mean the integration is broken. Apple Intelligence and its ChatGPT extension are not available on every device, operating-system version, language, or region.
- Verify that the device supports Apple Intelligence.
- Install the current operating-system updates offered for the device.
- Check the Siri language; the extension depends on a supported Siri language.
- Check regional availability, because Apple Intelligence features and the extension are not offered in every country or region.
- Look in the device-specific location: Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri on iPhone, iPad, and visionOS, or System Settings > Siri on Mac.
Menu labels can change between releases. On a Mac, check both the direct Siri > ChatGPT page and, where present, Siri > Extensions > ChatGPT.
Fixes for common symptoms
“Siri keeps suggesting ChatGPT.”
Open the ChatGPT extension settings and switch off both Use ChatGPT and Setup Prompts. The first removes the integration; the second suppresses setup suggestions.
“I turned off confirmation, but ChatGPT is still available.”
That is expected. Confirm ChatGPT Requests controls prompts, not availability. Turn off Use ChatGPT on iPhone, iPad, or standard Mac Siri settings, or Use Extension in the Siri AI Mac layout.
“Siri no longer asks before a normal request.”
Check whether Confirm ChatGPT Requests or Confirm Requests was disabled. With that setting off, eligible requests may be sent automatically. Files remain subject to a permission prompt, according to OpenAI.
“ChatGPT disappeared from Writing Tools or another feature.”
That is the expected effect of disabling the extension. Apple lists Siri, Writing Tools, Image Playground, visual intelligence, and Shortcuts as supported ChatGPT entry points, so the provider disappears from each when the extension is disabled. Other Apple Intelligence features can continue to operate independently.
“I cannot find any ChatGPT option at all.”
Check device compatibility, current software, Siri language, and region first. Availability is conditional, and the setting is not presented on every device or configuration.

Use the narrowest control that matches your goal:
- Stop all Apple Intelligence requests from reaching ChatGPT: turn off Use ChatGPT or Use Extension.
- Keep ChatGPT available but approve each eligible request: leave the extension on and keep Confirm ChatGPT Requests or Confirm Requests enabled.
- Stop Siri from proposing ChatGPT setup: turn off Setup Prompts; for a complete opt-out, turn off the master switch too.
- Remove ChatGPT from Apple Intelligence while retaining Apple Intelligence generally: disable only the ChatGPT extension.
These controls apply to Apple’s system integration. They do not uninstall a separate ChatGPT app or change settings inside that app.
