On iPhone, turn off a supported caller-ID app under Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification. On supported Pixel phones using Google Phone, automatic Call Screen has its own switch in the Phone app. Other Android phones may not offer a shared per-app setting, so check the app and your phone’s call controls.
First identify what “call detection” means
Call detection is not one universal setting. It may refer to an app identifying who is calling, a feature screening a call before you answer, a filter that silences unknown numbers, or a carrier-based spam filter. These controls have different effects: turning off caller identification does not necessarily stop screening or spam filtering.

- Caller identification: an app supplies information about an incoming number.
- Call screening: the phone or app answers or screens a call and may ask the caller for information.
- Unknown-caller filtering: calls from numbers outside your contacts are handled differently, such as being silenced.
- Spam filtering: calls identified as spam or fraud may be silenced or blocked, sometimes using carrier information.
Turn off a caller-ID app on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Phone.
- Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
- Turn off the switch beside the caller identification app you no longer want to use.
This disables that app’s caller-identification integration. Apple lists this control separately from its tools for screening unknown callers and filtering unknown or spam callers. Change unknown-caller screening or filtering on iPhone
To change how iPhone handles callers who are not in your contacts, open Settings > Apps > Phone > Screen Unknown Callers. Choose the behavior you want:
- Never: do not screen unknown callers using this feature.
- Ask Reason for Calling: iPhone asks the caller for a reason before your phone rings.
- Silence: silence calls from unknown numbers.
In the Phone settings’ Call Filtering section, Unknown Callers and Spam are separate filters. The Spam filter silences calls the carrier identifies as spam or fraud; switching off a caller-ID app does not necessarily change it. Apple notes that screening is unavailable while roaming and that using emergency services turns call screening off for 24 hours. See Apple’s instructions for managing unknown callers on iPhone.

Turn off automatic Call Screen in Google Phone
On a supported Pixel phone using Google Phone, automatic Call Screen can be disabled in the Phone app:
- Open Phone.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Settings.
- Tap Spam and Call Screen or Call Screen, depending on the menu shown.
- Tap Call Screen and turn off Automatically screen call.
This changes automatic Call Screen, not every caller-ID or spam feature on the phone. Manual screening remains a separate action, and Google says automatic screening does not screen calls from contacts. Google documents automatic Call Screen as available in English in the United States on Pixel phones running Android 10 or later; eligibility and menu labels can vary. Follow Google’s Call Screen instructions if your menus differ.

Find the right control on other Android phones
There is no single consumer settings path established for all Android manufacturers and call-screening apps. Android 10 and later support call-screening implementations through the CallScreeningService platform API, but that developer capability does not guarantee that every phone exposes the same per-app switch. The controls depend on the phone maker, dialer, app, software version, and region. Android Developers describes the platform support in its call-screening documentation.
To locate the setting on your device:
- Open the call-screening or caller-ID app and look for controls related to caller identification, screening, spam protection, or blocking.
- Open your phone’s Phone or dialer settings and look for caller ID, spam protection, call screening, or blocked numbers.
- Change only the control that matches the behavior you want to stop. If the app is not listed in a system menu, do not assume a generic Android toggle exists for it.
Check caller ID and spam protection separately
Google Phone’s caller ID and spam protection is distinct from automatic Call Screen. If you disable screening but still see business caller information or spam warnings, review the caller ID and spam controls in Phone settings. Google says numbers outside your contacts may be sent to Google to help identify business caller ID or determine whether a call is spam. That statement applies to Google’s feature, not every call-screening app. Details are in Google’s caller ID and spam protection help.
