If Apple’s suggestions in Messages are getting in the way, the right setting depends on what you mean by “suggestions.” For Siri suggestions inside the app, go to Settings > Siri or Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Apps > Messages, then switch off the relevant suggestion control. Conversation summaries and incoming-message alerts have separate settings.

Tap Apps, then choose Messages.

Turn off the control that matches where the unwanted suggestion appears. Apple lists options that can include Show in App and Suggestion Notifications; the available controls vary by app and Siri version. See Apple’s guide to turning Siri Suggestions on or off and its guide to Siri settings.

These are per-app settings. If the label or path differs on your iPhone, look under the Siri settings for Messages rather than expecting one universal switch with the same name on every version.

If you mean Apple Intelligence summaries
Apple Intelligence can show summaries below conversations in Messages. To control those, open Settings > Apps > Messages and turn off Summarize Messages. This is a separate setting from Siri Suggestions; Apple documents it for summaries, not as a switch that necessarily turns off suggested replies or every kind of suggestion. If you mean incoming-message alerts
To stop Messages notifications, go to Settings > Notifications > Messages and turn off Allow Notifications. Messages will still arrive; this setting silences alerts rather than removing suggestions shown inside the app. For just one conversation, mute that conversation in Messages instead.
