There is no single Xbox switch that removes every AI-generated feature, recommendation, or personalization control across all games. The practical approach is to adjust Xbox privacy and online-safety settings for account-level recommendations, disable optional AI features such as Game assist where available, check each game’s own settings, and change Windows 11 personalization separately if you play on PC.
These controls have different scopes. Turning off personalized offers can reduce recommendation data use; deleting Game assist chats removes that feature’s stored conversations; neither action automatically disables an AI system built into an individual game.

What you can and cannot turn off
Xbox distributes these controls across several layers rather than offering one master AI setting. Account privacy settings govern recommendations and personalization associated with your Xbox account. Feature-level controls govern optional services such as Game assist. A game’s own menus may govern generated dialogue, AI opponents, recommendation feeds, or other systems created by that developer. Windows 11 has an additional setting for personalized offers on Xbox-connected PCs.

Turn down Xbox recommendations on a console or Xbox.com
Use the Microsoft account that is actually signed in to Xbox. Changing a different account will not alter the recommendations shown to the account receiving them.
- Sign in with the correct account. Confirm the gamertag and Microsoft account before changing anything. If several profiles use the console, repeat the review for each adult account that needs a different result.
- Open Xbox privacy and online-safety settings. On a console, start in the Xbox Settings area and open the privacy and online-safety page. On the web, use the equivalent Xbox privacy and online-safety settings page after signing in at Xbox.com.
- Review every recommendation and personalization choice. Turn off or restrict options that mention personalized recommendations, offers, advertising, data sharing, or the use of activity to tailor content. The wording and number of choices can change as Microsoft updates the interface, so read each description instead of assuming one switch covers all categories.
- Save the changes and allow them to synchronize. Sign out and back in, or restart the console, if an old recommendation continues to appear. Cached tiles can remain visible temporarily even after the account preference has changed.
- Check another surface. A recommendation in the Microsoft Store, Game Pass area, dashboard, or a game’s own home screen may be controlled by a different setting. Record where the item appears before deciding that the Xbox privacy change failed.
These settings reduce account-level personalization; they do not promise an empty dashboard. Xbox still needs to display core service information, updates, safety notices, and other operational content. A store suggestion can also be supplied by the application itself rather than by the account recommendation system.
Check the game that is generating the content
If the unwanted material appears only after launching one title, begin with that title’s menus. Developers decide whether an AI helper, generated quests, synthetic dialogue, personalized news feed, or recommendation carousel can be disabled.

- Open the game’s Settings or Options menu.
- Inspect sections named Privacy, Online, Accessibility, Account, Personalization, or Notifications.
- Look for controls referring to generated content, assistant features, recommendations, personalization, data collection, chat history, or tailored offers.
- Apply the change, restart the game, and test the same screen or activity that produced the content.
- If no switch exists, check the game’s current support documentation or contact its publisher. Do not assume that an Xbox-level setting can override a feature implemented entirely by the game.
There is no official, universal list of per-game AI toggles. Menu names, availability, and behavior can differ by title, region, age rating, online mode, and game version. A control may also be available on one platform but absent from the Xbox edition.
Disable or limit Game assist
Game assist is an optional AI-enhanced Xbox feature. Its controls are separate from ordinary recommendation preferences. If Game assist is available on your account and you do not want to use it, open the feature’s own privacy controls and disable the feature or limit its data use according to the choices shown.
Manage Game assist conversations
Microsoft’s privacy dashboard provides controls to view, export, or delete Game assist chats. Use those controls when your goal is to remove conversation history rather than merely stop using the assistant.

- Open the Microsoft privacy dashboard while signed in to the account used for Game assist.
- Locate the Game assist activity or chat-history area.
- Review the entries before deleting them if you need a copy; use the export option when it is offered.
- Delete the selected chats or the available history range, then verify that the entries no longer appear.
Deleting Game assist chats affects that feature’s stored conversations. It does not remove every recommendation tile, erase game telemetry required for service operation, or disable an AI system embedded in a separate game.

Xbox usage can be combined with activity from other Microsoft products to personalize Windows offers. Windows has its own switch, and changing it is useful when recommendations appear in Windows rather than in the Xbox console interface.
- Open Settings in Windows 11.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Open Personalized offers. Some Windows builds label this page Recommendations & offers.
- Turn off personalized tips, ads, and recommendations using the controls shown.
- Close and reopen the affected Windows surface, such as a notification, Start experience, or Microsoft app, to check the result.
This setting applies to Windows experiences. Microsoft states that it does not change offers in other Microsoft products, so it should not be treated as a replacement for Xbox privacy settings or a game’s own controls.

Child accounts and family-managed settings
Child Xbox privacy starts at the most restrictive level by default. A child may therefore be unable to change recommendation or data-sharing choices directly.
- Have the parent or family organizer sign in to the family-management experience associated with the child’s Microsoft account.
- Open Xbox Family Settings for that child.
- Review privacy, online-safety, communication, and personalization choices exposed by the current controls.
- Save the setting and test the child account separately; adult-account changes do not automatically apply to the child profile.
If a setting is locked, the organizer must make the change or approve it. Family restrictions can also affect whether an optional assistant, online feature, or personalized content is available in the first place.

- Core service operation: Xbox may still process information needed to authenticate accounts, deliver games, maintain security, enforce safety rules, provide updates, and operate online services.
- Non-personalized content: A general announcement, popular-title list, required notice, or editorial promotion may appear even when personalized recommendations are restricted.
- Game-controlled behavior: A title can continue to generate content or show its own suggestions if it does not honor account-level Xbox preferences.
- Separate Microsoft products: Windows settings, Microsoft Store behavior, and Xbox dashboard choices can be managed in different places.
- Previously cached screens: A tile already downloaded to the console can remain until the dashboard refreshes; that does not necessarily mean the preference was ignored.

A practical privacy review checklist
- Identify the exact screen where the content appears: Xbox dashboard, Microsoft Store, Windows, Game assist, or inside a game.
- Confirm which Microsoft account and gamertag are active.
- Review Xbox privacy and online-safety settings for recommendation, personalization, and optional-data choices.
- Open the game’s own settings when the behavior is title-specific.
- Disable or limit Game assist separately if you do not want that optional AI feature.
- Use the privacy dashboard to export or delete Game assist chats when history removal is the goal.
- On Windows 11, turn off Personalized offers or Recommendations & offers for Windows-level tips and recommendations.
- Use Xbox Family Settings for a child account.
- Restart or sign back in after saving changes, then test the original screen.
- Keep required diagnostics and core-service processing distinct from optional personalization; opting out of recommendations does not stop every Xbox data process.

Can I disable all AI-generated content on Xbox?
No universal switch is documented. You must combine account privacy settings, optional-feature controls, Windows settings when applicable, and per-game options.
Can I stop Xbox from recommending games and content?
You can reduce account-level recommendations through Xbox privacy and online-safety settings, but some general, required, cached, or game-supplied content may remain.
Can I disable Game assist or Copilot?
Game assist is optional and has feature-specific privacy controls. Use those controls and the Microsoft privacy dashboard for its chats. The available controls do not automatically govern every other Xbox recommendation or AI feature.
