As of October 19, 2026, Rockstar has not published a verified GTA VI procedure for muting radio music or changing it with a separate slider. There is no confirmed menu path, setting name, or PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X|S instruction that lets you lower radio music while keeping dialogue and sound effects unchanged.
When the game’s menus are available, the safest place to look is Pause Menu > Settings > Audio. That path is documented for GTAV, but it is only a precedent for GTA VI—not proof that the same labels or controls exist.

What is officially known right now
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA VI includes in-game radio and soundtrack content. Its official GTA VI site entry is dated October 8, 2026. However, Rockstar’s GTA VI support hub currently provides support categories and articles without an audio-settings walkthrough.

| Can radio music be muted in GTA VI? | No Rockstar-verified procedure has been published. |
| Is there a separate radio-volume slider? | No named slider has been officially documented. |
| Can radio be muted while dialogue and effects remain audible? | That behavior has not been confirmed for GTA VI. |
| Is there a platform-specific method for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S? | No verified platform-specific instructions are available. |
The menu path worth checking first
Rockstar’s GTAV support documentation says:
“The settings for GTAV can be changed within the Pause Menu when in Story Mode or Online. Once in the Pause Menu navigate to the Settings tab. From there you can select from a host of setting options like controls, audio, camera, and display.”
That article was last updated April 20, 2024. It establishes a Rockstar-documented settings workflow for GTAV, not for GTA VI. Use the following as a practical checklist when you are in GTA VI, and confirm every label on screen rather than assuming it matches GTAV.
- Pause the game. Open the pause menu during gameplay.
- Open Settings. Look for a category named Audio, Sound, or a similar label.
- Read every available audio control. Check whether the menu distinguishes radio, music, dialogue, effects, cinematic score, or master volume.
- Change one control at a time. Lower or mute a candidate music control, then return to play and test a radio broadcast, character dialogue, ambient effects, and mission music separately.
- Save or confirm the change if prompted. Some games apply audio changes immediately; others require an Apply or Confirm command.
- Repeat the test on your platform. If you use both a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Series X|S, do not assume that an identical label or behavior exists on both.
If GTA VI does not show a radio, music, or licensed-music control, there is no documented workaround that can create one through the pause menu.
How to interpret the controls if they appear
The important distinction is not merely whether a slider exists, but which sounds it affects. Use these outcomes to identify what the game actually supports.

A radio-only mute
A control explicitly labeled Radio or Radio Volume would be the clearest way to silence station music while leaving other audio channels unchanged. Until Rockstar documents such a control or the game exposes it unambiguously, do not assume that a generic music slider affects radio broadcasts only.
A separate music or licensed-music slider
A setting named Music, Licensed Music, or a similar term may cover more than the car radio. It could include mission scoring, menu music, scripted sequences, or other soundtrack elements. Test those sounds individually before relying on the setting.
A shared music channel
If the menu offers only one music control, lowering it may affect radio, mission score, and other musical cues together. In that case, the game may not provide the radio-only mix many players want.

Only a master-volume control
A master control changes the overall output and is not a radio solution. It can reduce dialogue, effects, radio, and music at the same time, so use it only when that trade-off is acceptable.

Can you keep dialogue and effects while muting radio?
That mix is technically possible only if GTA VI exposes separate channels or a radio-specific mute. Rockstar has not confirmed that it does. Do not treat screenshots, leaked menu descriptions, or instructions copied from another game as proof that dialogue, effects, and mission score will remain audible after radio music is disabled.
The reliable test, once you have access to the settings, is to compare four situations after changing the suspected control:
- A vehicle radio broadcast or song.
- Character dialogue during free roam or a mission.
- Environmental and vehicle effects.
- Mission or cinematic music outside the radio.
If more than radio changes, the control is shared rather than radio-specific.
What to do on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
No official GTA VI audio procedure currently identifies different controls for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Start inside the game on either platform rather than relying on console-wide volume menus, because a console headset or system mixer cannot selectively remove GTA VI radio music while preserving the game’s internal audio channels.
If a setting appears on one console but not the other, record the exact platform, setting label, and game version before assuming it is a feature difference. A menu change can also result from a game update, account configuration, or audio-output mode.

- “Go to Settings > Audio > Radio Volume.” This is not an officially published GTA VI path.
- “Set Licensed Music to zero and dialogue will stay at full volume.” GTA VI has no documented behavior confirming that result.
- “The PS5 and Xbox menus use different radio controls.” No Rockstar platform comparison has been published.
- “The GTAV settings are identical in GTA VI.” The GTAV menu route is precedent only.
These instructions may eventually prove accurate, but they should not be presented as confirmed until Rockstar supplies the setting details or the game’s own menus establish them.
If you cannot find a radio or music slider
- Check the main menu and the in-game pause menu; some games expose options in only one location.
- Open every audio-related submenu, including accessibility or advanced settings if present.
- Look for a scrollable list; a control below the visible area can be easy to miss.
- Verify that the game is updated, then reopen the audio menu and check again.
- Test the master, music, dialogue, and effects controls separately so you know which channels are actually available.
- If no radio-specific option exists, use the game’s documented controls rather than changing console output settings and expecting a selective mute.
If the problem is that radio music keeps playing after a setting change, first check whether the control affects only newly started broadcasts, whether a vehicle radio is still enabled, and whether the change was confirmed. Without a documented GTA VI procedure, those symptoms cannot be assigned to a known bug or fixed with a guaranteed button sequence.

What a future verified guide needs to specify
When Rockstar publishes instructions, a dependable guide should identify the exact platform, game version, menu path, and setting label. It should also state whether the control mutes radio only or all music, whether dialogue and effects remain unchanged, and whether PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S behave differently.
Until those details are available, the accurate answer is limited: check Pause Menu > Settings > Audio first, but treat any GTA VI radio-mute or independent-volume option as unconfirmed.
