Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf your Starlink is offline, keeps disconnecting, or feels slow, start with the Starlink app: check its status and alerts, then check for obstructions and inspect the connection. Next, compare more than one device and test Wi-Fi against Ethernet where possible. These checks help separate a dish or cable issue from a weak Wi-Fi link, a single-device problem, weather, or service conditions before you contact support.
Start with the Starlink app and identify what is affected
Open the Starlink app and review its status, alert banners, and outage history. Note whether Starlink is fully offline, disconnecting intermittently, or only slow. If the app reports an account or service alert, check that the subscription is active.
Check whether the problem affects one device or every device. If only one is slow, compare it with another device and note whether it connects over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether a VPN is active, and how strong its Wi-Fi signal is. Starlink recommends testing with the VPN off or trying another device without a VPN.

Check for a Starlink obstruction alert
Starlink requires a clear view of the sky. Use the app’s “Check for Obstructions” tool to scan the dish’s view. Trees, buildings, poles, debris, fallen leaves, and snow buildup can block that view and contribute to interruptions. A new obstruction alert may appear as branches or leaves change, material accumulates on the dish, or snow builds up.
If the app identifies an obstruction, consider relocating the dish, clearing the obstruction, or raising the terminal with a suitable Starlink mount or pole/tower option. Use only an installation that is compatible with your kit and safe for the location; do not climb, clear branches, or work on cables in unsafe conditions. Seek professional help if needed. After moving the Starlink, unplug and reboot it as directed by Starlink.

Inspect power, cables, and connection alerts
Look for app messages such as “POOR CABLE CONNECTION” or “SLOW ETHERNET.” Starlink describes a poor cable connection as a negotiated Ethernet-speed issue that can indicate possible cable damage. A loose connector, moisture, debris, a kink, or visible cable damage can also disrupt service.
- Follow the instructions for your Starlink kit, including disconnecting power before inspecting for cable damage.
- Check the cable and connectors for visible damage, moisture, debris, or a loose fit. Reseat connections only as the kit instructions direct.
- If an alert persists or a cable is damaged, use Starlink’s official support or shop channels to confirm the replacement cable for your exact kit. Do not assume cables are interchangeable across models.
Starlink’s troubleshooting checklist also suggests testing a spare dish-to-power cable when an alert or damage is present. Do not replace parts speculatively if the cable and alert checks do not point to a physical link problem.

Why is my Starlink so slow? Separate Wi-Fi from the service connection
A slow Wi-Fi connection is not by itself proof that the dish-to-satellite connection is slow. Compare a device near the router with one farther away, and compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection if your setup supports it.
If Starlink Wi-Fi is slow
Starlink’s guidance says, “The 2.4 GHz band works at longer range but is slower.” Its 5 GHz band is faster close to the router but has less range. If your app settings let you split the bands, doing so can help you identify which network a device is using. Test near the router before treating a weak signal farther away as a dish problem.

If an Ethernet connection is slow
Check the category printed on the Ethernet cable. Starlink recommends Cat 5e or higher; a cable below Cat 5e may limit a wired connection. A Cat 5e Ethernet cable is relevant only if this specific cable link is the likely limitation and you have confirmed the needed ports, adapter, and cable length. It will not fix an obstruction or congestion.
If you use a third-party router or network hardware
If practical, temporarily remove third-party networking equipment and test through the Starlink router and app. Starlink says it cannot guarantee the performance or compatibility of third-party network devices. A comparison with the third-party equipment removed can help determine whether it is contributing to the problem.

Compare speed at different times and in different conditions
Starlink speeds vary with the service plan and demand. Its third-party-router guidance identifies 6 p.m.–11 p.m. local time as a typical peak-use period; performance may vary during that window. Starlink also notes that Mobile/Roam plans may be slower, particularly during congestion. Compare results with the expected-speed information for your plan rather than assuming one speed target applies to every plan, market, or date. Starlink’s help guidance asks, “Could congestion be the issue?”
Weather can also contribute to intermittent service. Starlink says service can recover quickly after weather improves. Snow or ice on the dish may be a factor, but clear it only if you can do so safely.

Run useful comparisons instead of relying on one speed test
A single speed test cannot establish that the dish is failing. Repeat tests under comparable conditions and note what changed. These comparisons help narrow the cause:
| Comparison | What it can help isolate |
|---|---|
| One device vs. all devices | A device, VPN, or local connection issue versus a broader router or service problem |
| Wi-Fi vs. Ethernet | Wireless signal or band performance versus a wired cable or link issue |
| Near the router vs. farther away | Wi-Fi range or signal strength |
| Normal vs. off-peak time | A performance pattern associated with peak usage or congestion |
| Starlink router vs. a test without third-party hardware | Whether other networking equipment may be contributing |
| App obstruction or cable alert vs. no such alert | A dish-view or physical-link issue versus another cause |
| Clear weather vs. storm or snow conditions | Whether intermittent symptoms coincide with weather |
Record the time and location of each test, the plan, whether you used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, which devices were affected, whether a VPN was on, any app alerts, and whether third-party hardware was removed. Starlink’s checklist includes diagnostics for latency, packet loss, and intermittent issues; collect those results where relevant.
When and how to contact Starlink Support
If the problem continues after these checks, submit a support ticket through the Starlink app. Include when and where the issue began, whether it is still happening, which devices are affected, any app alerts or screenshots, and the checks you already performed. Add speed, latency, and packet-loss results when available, along with the conditions of each test. Starlink’s slow-speed guidance asks what to do if speeds remain slow after troubleshooting; timestamps and test details make the problem easier to describe.
For directions that depend on your dish model, plan, or market, follow the in-app instructions and the current local Starlink support page.
