For a fixed home, start by checking Starlink offers for your exact service address, then compare the Residential plans available there and confirm the installation site has a clear view of the sky. Standard is the more straightforward option to evaluate for a permanent setup; Mini is compact and uses less power, but Residential service is unsupported on Mini in most countries. The right choice depends on local availability, household use, power, and whether you need portability—not advertised peak speed alone.
Check availability at your service address first
Starlink’s plans and prices vary by region and address, and not every offer is available everywhere. Enter the actual service address in Starlink’s Residential availability flow to see the plans offered there. If an offer does not appear for your address, do not assume it can be ordered there.

Availability at an address does not guarantee that a particular roof, yard, or window has an unobstructed sky view. Use the Starlink app’s location tool to assess the proposed dish location; trees, rooflines, and other obstructions can affect whether the site works.

Can you use Mini for home internet?
Do not assume so. Starlink says Residential service is unsupported on Mini in most countries, with limited regional exceptions. Check whether a compatible offer appears for your address before choosing Mini for a fixed household. Mini may instead suit a portability-oriented use case that requires a different plan.

Starlink describes Residential as service for personal or household use at one fixed, land-based location. It is tied to the registered address and does not support roaming or in-motion use. Starlink says Residential plans include unlimited data, but plan names, performance, and availability differ by market and address. Depending on where you live, offers may include Residential Max, Residential 200 Mbps, Residential 100 Mbps, or other Residential and Residential Lite names. The capped 100 and 200 Mbps tiers are available only in select areas.

Match the plan to peak concurrent use
Choose the lowest available tier whose stated cap and expected performance meet what your household does at its busiest. Think about simultaneous activity: several people streaming or video-calling while someone games or downloads a large file can make combined demand more important than a single person’s typical use. A faster plan does not fix a blocked sky view, a poor dish location, or Wi-Fi dead zones inside the home.
Starlink says Residential plans can be upgraded or downgraded subject to availability, and the timing depends on the type of change. If your needs change, check the account options and terms rather than assuming a switch will take effect immediately.
Quick Recap
Check the installation, power, and kit contents
- Sky view: Use the Starlink app’s location tool to check the intended installation spot for obstructions.
- Power: Make sure the site and power source suit the selected kit. Starlink’s published average dish power ranges differ: Standard is listed at 50–75 W and Mini at 25–40 W.
- Cable route: Confirm the cable length and route from the dish to the router or indoor location before ordering.
- Mount and router: Verify which mount, router, and cables are included with the exact hardware revision. Do not assume an accessory fits a different generation or market bundle.
- Checkout terms: Review address-specific kit and monthly service prices, taxes, shipping, trial and return terms. These details depend on your location and are not established by a general plan description.
A practical decision path
- Enter your service address in Starlink’s Residential availability flow and note the offers actually shown.
- Assess the likely dish location with the Starlink app’s sky-view tool before committing to an installation spot.
- If you need fixed home service, compare only the Residential options offered for that address and choose a tier based on peak simultaneous household use.
- Compare Standard and Mini against your installation: fixed versus portable use, orientation, power source, integrated versus separate router, and cable and mount needs.
- Confirm Mini’s plan compatibility, the current kit contents, and all local checkout terms before placing the order.
