If a Figma plugin will not load or run, first check that you launched it from a supported Figma surface and selected any content it needs. Then check whether Figma is online, whether your browser or desktop app meets Figma’s troubleshooting guidance, and whether network or organization controls are blocking access. If the problem affects only one third-party plugin, its developer is the right support contact: Figma says it does not support third-party plugins.
Identify where the failure happens
Before changing settings, note what you see. Is the plugin missing from the menu, failing to open, opening without producing a result, or showing an error? Record the plugin name, whether you are using the browser or desktop app, the Figma surface where you launched it, and any error text. These distinctions help narrow the checks below; there is no single documented cause for every plugin failure.

Check how you are launching the plugin
Figma plugins are run manually, only one can run at a time, and they cannot perform actions in the background. Some plugins also require a frame, object, or layer to be selected. Check the plugin’s listing or instructions for its selection requirements and expected behavior. Figma’s guide explains plugin use in files: Use plugins in files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- If the plugin is missing, confirm you are looking for it from the appropriate Figma surface, such as Community, the file browser, or the relevant file.
- If it opens but appears to do nothing, select the content it may need and run it again manually.
- If another plugin is still running, close it before trying to start this one.
Check internet access and Figma’s environment guidance
Confirm that your connection is stable. Offline, you cannot install new plugins or run plugins that depend on external browser APIs. A plugin already open that does not depend on those APIs may still work. See What you can do offline in Figma.
#1 Best Overall
Figma’s troubleshooting checklist recommends checking that you use a current stable supported browser and operating system, have a reliable connection, and have WebGL, updated graphics drivers, and sufficient memory available. It also identifies network settings as a possible factor.
- Browser: Force-quit and reopen Figma in a new window.
- Desktop app: Force-quit and restart the app. Figma also lists clearing the desktop app cache as an option; follow its current official instructions for that procedure.
Look for VPN, proxy, extension, or organization restrictions
VPNs and proxies can interfere with Figma access, and some browser extensions can cause issues. If you use a VPN or proxy, Figma suggests adding Figma to its safe list. On a managed network, ask your administrator whether Figma or required connections are being restricted. See Figma’s troubleshooting checklist.

For generative plugins and shaders specifically, an organization administrator may have disabled access. Ask the administrator to check the applicable setting; Figma describes it in Manage access to generative plugins and shaders.
Capture a console log if the problem persists
A console log can provide useful detail when you contact support. Figma’s instructions are in Export console logs.
- Open Developer Tools. On Mac, use Command–Option–I. On Windows, Figma lists Ctrl–Alt–I for the desktop app and F12 for browsers. In the desktop app, you can also use Help → Toggle Developer Tools.
- Select the Console tab.
- Reproduce the plugin problem so the relevant messages appear.
- Save the log and attach it to a Support conversation, following Figma’s instructions.
Figma notes that errors mentioning api-iam.intercom.io do not affect performance or indicate a Figma error.
Contact the right support team
If the issue is limited to a particular third-party plugin, contact its developer using the support contact on the plugin listing or provided by the developer. Figma says it does not provide support for third-party plugins. If the problem appears broader than one plugin, contact Figma Support with the relevant file or issue details and, when useful, the console log.
