What’s the difference between Vodafone TV and Sky Stream?
Both bring television and streaming to a TV over broadband, but they are sold differently. Vodafone TV is a compact Android TV hub with Freely, Google Play apps and, depending on the plan, subscriptions such as Netflix and HBO Max. Vodafone also promotes cloud gaming. Its 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support applies to selected content. Vodafone’s product description explains its feature set.

Sky Stream is a streaming box connected to a television by HDMI and to the internet by broadband; it does not need a satellite dish. Sky sells it through television package tiers, with optional packs such as sports, cinema and UHD/Atmos. Sky’s launch description covers the dish-free setup, while Sky’s current package page sets out package and add-on choices.
How much do Vodafone TV and Sky Stream cost?
Vodafone TV prices and eligibility
In its 2 October 2026 announcement, Vodafone listed Vodafone TV at £10 per month and Vodafone TV Essential at £17 per month. Both require a qualifying Vodafone home broadband or pay-monthly mobile plan. Vodafone said charges rise on 1 April 2027 and again on 1 April 2028; check the live offer and the price schedule for the specific plan before signing up. Vodafone’s announcement gives the listed prices, eligibility and scheduled changes.

Vodafone also announced an offer running until 28 October 2026: new Pro Broadband customers could get TV Essential at no extra cost for the first 24 months of a Pro Broadband contract. The offer is eligibility-bound, not a general standalone TV price. The same announcement describes a Vodafone Together price for eligible households with a mobile line, so confirm the precise quote and conditions.
Sky Stream prices depend on the package
There is no single useful “Sky Stream price” without specifying the package and extras. Sky’s current page distinguishes Essential TV, which includes Netflix Standard with Ads and over 100 additional channels, from Ultimate TV, which adds Disney+ Standard with Ads and more channels. Sports, cinema, TNT Sports, Kids, Netflix upgrades, and UHD/Atmos can add cost. Add-ons may have different prices, rolling or minimum-term arrangements, and restrictions. Use Sky’s live quote for the tier and extras you actually want rather than comparing an unspecified bundle with Vodafone’s £10 entry plan.

Which channels and subscriptions matter to you?
Start with the programmes, live channels and sports you actually watch. Vodafone includes Freely and access to Google Play apps; Sky offers its own channels and package tiers. Channel and app line-ups can change, so check the providers’ current listings for must-have shows and events before choosing.

Then compare subscription tiers, not just service names. Vodafone TV Essential includes Netflix Standard with Ads and HBO Max Standard with Ads. The £10 Vodafone TV plan has optional subscriptions available separately through Vodafone’s subscription platform. Sky Essential includes Netflix Standard with Ads, while Ultimate adds Disney+ Standard with Ads. Check whether you would otherwise pay for each included subscription and whether its ads and tier suit you. Don’t count a subscription as a saving if you already pay for it and will keep paying separately.

Do you meet the broadband and equipment requirements?
- Vodafone TV: You need a qualifying Vodafone broadband or pay-monthly mobile plan. Check eligibility for your account and address with Vodafone.
- Sky Stream: You need broadband and an HDMI connection to your television; no satellite dish is required. Check Sky’s current connection requirements and your broadband performance for the address.
In either case, include any broadband cost that you would incur specifically to use the service. A TV subscription price alone does not show the total household cost.
What extra features could tip the decision?
Vodafone: apps and cloud gaming
Vodafone promotes more than 300 cloud games, a companion app and Google Play apps. Its games can be played with an optional Bluetooth controller, but no particular controller model’s compatibility is established here; check before buying. Vodafone’s feature description explains the service’s positioning. Vodafone Consumer Director Rob Winterschladen called it “a family entertainment platform”; that is VodafoneThree’s product positioning, not an independent comparative verdict.

Sky: package interface and Sky features
Sky highlights its package interface, playlists and Sky Go. If you already value Sky’s channels or use those features, include them in your decision; otherwise, compare them against Vodafone’s apps and gaming based on what your household will actually use.

Vodafone specifies 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for selected content. Sky lists UHD and Dolby Atmos through an extra pack, subject to broadband and content conditions. Neither provider’s format support means every programme is available in that format; check the specific content and the relevant pack conditions.

How to compare the real cost before signing up
- List the content and features you need. Note must-have channels, sports, films, apps and subscription tiers, plus whether gaming or Sky-specific features matter.
- Build the exact package on each provider’s site. Add the tier, subscriptions and packs required to match that list, including any UHD, sports or cinema extras.
- Check eligibility and broadband costs. Confirm Vodafone plan eligibility or Sky’s connection requirements, and add broadband charges if they are part of your decision.
- Compare the full commitment. Calculate the total over the minimum term, including add-ons, setup or extra-room charges where applicable, and any scheduled price changes. Separate a temporary offer from the price after it ends.
- Account for subscriptions you already have. Count only the subscriptions you would otherwise buy, and avoid treating an included tier as a saving if you intend to retain a separate subscription.
- Verify the final terms at checkout. Offers, package prices and add-on conditions can change; use the live quote and contract details for your address and account.
Is Vodafone TV or Sky Stream independently proven to be better?
The available evidence does not establish a lab-tested winner between the services. What Hi-Fi?’s 16 September 2026 report said it had not completed a full test or comparison against rivals. Its report offers early hands-on context, not a definitive head-to-head verdict.
Vodafone-commissioned Opinium polling of 2,000 nationally representative UK adults, conducted 25–29 September 2026, found that 40% felt they paid for services they did not regularly use, one in ten struggled to track apps or subscriptions, and 18% named searching across services as their biggest TV frustration. These are vendor-commissioned survey findings, not evidence that one service is better value or more satisfying than the other. Vodafone’s announcement describes the poll.
