First, check the request’s status in the e-signature service before resending it. A draft may never have been sent, a sent request may be waiting for an earlier signer, and an email that was sent can still be filtered or overlooked. Work through the checks below to identify which situation applies.
Check whether the request was sent and what it is waiting for
Start in the service where the sender created the request. Find the request and read its status before creating another one. A draft is not a delivered request: DocuSign says recipients do not receive notifications for envelopes that remain in Drafts (DocuSign notification guidance).

In Dropbox Sign, request status appears beside the request in Documents on the web app, or under Signature requests in the mobile app (Dropbox Sign request statuses). If the request is marked Sent but the signer has not viewed it, investigate delivery before treating the issue as a service failure.

In a sequential workflow, a later signer may not be prompted until the earlier signer completes their step. That is a workflow dependency, not necessarily a delayed email; do not resend until you know which step is active.

If the signer never received the email
- Verify the recipient address. Compare the address on the request with the one the signer is checking, including spelling and domain.
- Check spam, junk, and filtered mail. Ask the signer to search all mail folders for the service or request notification.
- Ask corporate IT to check filtering. An organization’s mail gateway may quarantine or block automated messages. Its IT team can investigate delivery logs or allowlisting.
- Confirm the sender used the expected account. In Dropbox Sign, users with multiple accounts may have sent the request from another account, so notifications can go to a different address (Dropbox Sign notification guidance).
- Resend only after those checks. Dropbox recommends resending from the Documents page after verifying the address and checking spam or mail filtering (Dropbox Sign troubleshooting).
Dropbox Sign’s notification guidance identifies [email protected] as a sender address and recommends checking notification settings. Because sender details and settings can change, confirm them in the current Dropbox guidance rather than relying on an old allowlist entry.
If the email arrived but the signing page will not work
- Refresh the page once and try the link again.
- Check that the internet connection is working and that other websites load normally.
- Try the signing link in another supported browser. Dropbox Sign lists a temporary issue as one possible cause of its “Unexpected error occurred” message and recommends trying another browser if the problem continues (Dropbox Sign unexpected-error guidance).
- Record the exact error and time it appeared. Avoid repeatedly resending the request or creating duplicates while troubleshooting.
If the problem occurs inside a particular integration rather than the standard signing page, check that integration’s documentation. For example, Adobe documents a Request Signature integration error involving blocked third-party cookies and an administrator-enabled cookieless workflow (Adobe Acrobat Sign developer guide). This specific fix is not a general remedy for every broken signing link.

Check whether the e-signature service has an incident
Look at the provider’s current status page if sending or signing produces errors, pages fail to load or time out, processing is unexpectedly delayed, or several users are affected. Status can differ by region or service component, so check the relevant service and region rather than assuming a general status applies.

If no incident is shown, its guidance includes refreshing, checking browser and internet connectivity, and contacting an administrator or support.
- DocuSign status center: Check the current eSignature status and any incident details.
A clear status page does not rule out an account-specific, network, browser, or mail-delivery problem. Continue with the relevant checks rather than repeatedly resending.

Escalate with useful diagnostics
If the request status is confusing, the link still fails, or the issue persists when no incident is listed, contact the account administrator or the provider’s support team. Include details that let them trace the event:
- When the problem happened, including time and time zone.
- The exact displayed error and any error code.
- The document or request name, without sharing confidential contract contents in a public forum.
- What action you took immediately before the error.
- The account identity or email address used to sign in.
- Whether it affects one request or several, and one user or multiple users.
Dropbox Sign specifically asks users reporting an unexpected error to provide the time, error code if shown, document name, action being performed, and signed-in email address (Dropbox Sign unexpected-error guidance).

What the checks can—and cannot—tell you
These steps help distinguish an unsent draft, a workflow waiting on another signer, a filtered notification, a browser or integration issue, and a possible service incident. They do not establish a universal delivery window: no standard “normal” email arrival time applies across providers in the available guidance. Nor do status and troubleshooting pages establish that one provider is categorically more reliable than another.
