Both are confirmed platforms for the game’s scheduled November 19, 2026 launch, but the available official information does not establish which version will run at a higher frame rate, resolution, or image quality. Choose based on the features and ecosystem you value; wait for comparable tests of the released game before deciding on technical performance.
Will GTA 6 run better on PS5 or Xbox Series X?
That is not yet established. The cited official sources provide no independent, side-by-side GTA VI performance test for PS5 and Series X, so there is no substantiated basis to rank them by frame rate, resolution, graphics quality, or loading time.

Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 announcement confirms GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar also says its extended-look footage was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. That identifies the platform used for the showcase, not a comparative test or proof that the Xbox version will perform worse.

PlayStation’s official GTA VI page lists the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced and describes DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, controller-speaker effects, Tempest 3D Audio, and SSD-assisted loading. Those are concrete reasons to prefer the PlayStation version if you value its documented controller and audio integrations or want the option of playing on PS5 Pro.

Sony’s platform-holder position is more specific than a general feature listing: in a June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Mary Yee, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said GTA VI “will play best on PS5” by using PS5’s immersive features. This is Sony’s claim about its platform and experience—not an independent finding that PS5 delivers a higher frame rate or better image quality than Series X.
What Xbox Series X offers
Series X is an officially supported GTA VI platform, and Xbox may be the more convenient choice if you already own Xbox games or prefer its ecosystem and controller. Microsoft says Series X supports thousands of games from Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the original Xbox, with library and accessory continuity. Its backward-compatible library is a meaningful ecosystem advantage for existing Xbox players; it does not predict GTA VI’s performance.
Microsoft lists these specifications for the Xbox Series X Carbon Black model:

- Custom RDNA 2 GPU rated at 12 TFLOPS
- 16 GB GDDR6 memory

Sony’s PS5 CFI-21XX manual lists a 10 TFLOPS GPU, 16 GB GDDR6 memory, and a 1 TB custom SSD for the PS5 console; its Digital Edition configuration is listed with an 825 GB custom SSD. These are official console specifications, not GTA VI test results. The higher listed Xbox TFLOPS figure alone cannot show which game version will be faster or look better: performance also depends on architecture, game optimization, and rendering settings. See the Xbox Series X specifications and Sony PS5 manual.
Should you get a PS5 or Xbox Series X for GTA 6?
Choose PS5 if its documented integrations matter to you
PS5 has the stronger officially documented GTA VI-specific feature case: PlayStation names DualSense feedback, controller-speaker effects, Tempest 3D Audio, SSD-assisted loading, and PS5 Pro Enhanced support. Choose it if those features, the PlayStation ecosystem, or the Pro option fit your priorities—not because a higher GTA VI frame rate has been demonstrated.
Choose Series X if you are invested in Xbox
If your existing library, backward compatibility, accessories, or preference for the Xbox ecosystem matter most, Series X is a sensible choice. It is confirmed for GTA VI, and choosing the console you already use may be more valuable than comparing raw specifications that do not establish game performance.
Rank #3

- 🚀 Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
- 🚀 RAM: 16GB GDDR6
- 🚀 GPU: 10.3 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU
If you own neither, compare the whole purchase
Check local console prices, the exact model and storage, disc-drive needs, your existing game library, controller preference, and any account or subscription costs. Series S is also confirmed as an Xbox Series platform, but that does not establish equivalent visual quality or performance to Series X.
Game price and the boxed edition
Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 announcement lists US prices of $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Those are US announcement prices, not a guarantee of the current price in other regions; check your local platform store for regional pricing and current offers. See Take-Two’s announcement.
“Physical” does not mean disc for GTA VI. Rockstar Support says the boxed physical version contains a download code, with no disc included, and that code redemption is region-restricted according to the platform account. Rockstar says physical Standard Edition codes are expected from November 12 to support preloading. If you expect to install from a disc or want a disc for your collection, this package will not meet that expectation. Details are in Rockstar Support’s platform and editions information.
What to check after launch
For a technical comparison, look for tests made on both consoles using the released game, and check that they identify the console models, game build, graphics settings or modes, and the conditions used. Until comparable testing is available, claims that one version has better frame rate, resolution, image quality, or loading times go beyond the cited evidence.
