The message reports a failed rendering-resource allocation; by itself, it does not prove your graphics card lacks VRAM or needs replacing.
What the error means—and what it does not
The message may read: “Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running.” It is a generic Unreal Engine allocation error, not a diagnosis of the cause on your PC. GPU-memory pressure is one possibility, but the wording alone cannot distinguish it from a driver problem, system instability, or another fault. Epic’s community discussion of the message is general engine advice, not a report about this game specifically.

That distinction matters: do not buy a GPU or memory kit solely because this error appeared. First look for a repeatable pattern and try reversible checks.

Start with checks that do not change performance settings
1. Note when the crash happens
Write down whether the game fails at launch, during shader compilation, after playing for a while, or only in a particular scene. Record the exact error and whether other demanding games also crash. This does not diagnose the machine by itself, but it helps distinguish a game-specific failure from broader PC instability.

2. Close other applications and check memory use
Exit applications you do not need while playing, then check system memory use in your operating system’s task manager or activity monitor. The Black Myth: Wukong FAQ answer surfaced in a Steam community announcement feed recommends closing other applications and reviewing physical memory after an abrupt crash with this message. Treat that as troubleshooting guidance, not a controlled test or a guarantee. The feed includes mixed content, so the attribution applies only to the specific FAQ answer. 3. Check free space on the system and game drives
Confirm that both the drive holding the game and the system drive have usable free space. The surfaced FAQ recommends checking disk capacity, but its numeric free-space suggestion is not clear enough to treat as a Black Myth: Wukong requirement. Do not infer a required amount from that answer.

Check drivers and return unstable settings to stock
4. Update through the graphics-card maker
Check your GPU maker’s official driver guidance and install the appropriate current driver for your card and operating system. The FAQ mentions a clean driver installation for related launch problems if a normal update does not help. There is no established driver version here that fixes this crash for everyone, so avoid treating a particular version as a universal remedy. The Steam FAQ feed’s related driver advice
5. Temporarily disable overclocks
If you have changed CPU, GPU, or memory clocks or other tuning settings, restore stock settings while troubleshooting. This is a reversible way to check whether instability contributes to the crash. The surfaced FAQ advises disabling overclocks for unstable gameplay; it does not establish that overclocking is the cause in every case. Avoid changing voltage or frequency based on generic values.

Reduce rendering demand as a test
Lower the resolution or reduce demanding graphics settings, then see whether the same crash recurs. These changes can reduce rendering load, but they may also make the image less sharp or detailed. Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.8 documentation discusses GPU-memory pressure and screen percentage—the proportion of the display resolution used for rendering. It provides engine-level context, not proof that a specific Black Myth: Wukong setting will fix a particular PC’s crash. Epic’s Temporal Super Resolution FAQ
Change one setting at a time where practical and note the result. If lowering the rendering load changes when or whether the game crashes, that is useful diagnostic evidence, but it still does not identify the underlying cause conclusively.

Check CPU stability on some Intel desktop systems
If the game crashes at startup or during shader compilation on a 13th- or 14th-generation Intel desktop system, consider system stability as a separate troubleshooting branch. The surfaced FAQ associates crashes on some such systems with instability and points users toward BIOS guidance. This does not mean every crash on those CPUs has the same cause.

When to seek support or consider hardware
If the error persists after these checks, send the official game support channel useful details rather than only the error wording:
- The game and graphics-driver versions
- Your CPU, GPU, and amount of RAM
- When the crash occurs and whether it is repeatable
- Whether other demanding games also crash
- Which troubleshooting changes you tried and what happened
The available sources do not establish a current game patch or driver version that resolves this error for everyone. Consider a hardware upgrade only if measurements or broader diagnostics confirm a relevant shortfall; the error message alone does not identify a component to replace.
