8 Surprisingly Useful Websites That Feel Almost Illegal to Know About

Eight websites solve everyday discovery and information problems—from finding where a show streams to locating open research papers—with important limits to know.

These eight websites answer practical questions that can feel oddly hard to ask: where a show is streaming, what a service’s fine print says, or whether a paper has a legal free copy. “Feel illegal” is a joke about discovering useful tools—not a claim that they enable piracy or unauthorized access. Each does a different job, and each has limits worth knowing.

Where can I stream this movie or show?

JustWatch

JustWatch’s US catalog lets you search movies and TV shows across streaming services and filter results by options such as price. It helps answer where a title may be available legally; it does not guarantee that the title is included with a subscription. Availability varies by region and changes over time, and a listing may point to a rental or purchase rather than subscription access. JustWatch offers free core features as well as optional paid Pro features, according to its terms.

How can I listen to radio from another country?

Radio Garden

Radio Garden turns live radio discovery into a globe: choose a location and explore stations broadcasting there. It is a simple way to encounter local programming beyond your usual dial. The project’s history says its website launched in 2016, followed by native iOS and Android apps in 2018. Its privacy policy says it collects and uses personal and usage data, so the globe interface should not be mistaken for anonymity.

What does a service’s fine print actually say?

Terms of Service; Didn’t Read

Terms of Service; Didn’t Read (ToS;DR) summarizes terms of service and privacy policies, identifying notable points and, when it considers the available information sufficient, assigning grades from A to E. The project describes its method this way: “ToS;DR aims to provide easy-to-understand summaries of Privacy Policies and Terms of Service through a transparent and peer-reviewed process.” It began in June 2012, according to its about page.

Use a grade as a screening signal, not a verdict from a regulator or legal advice. If a policy matters to a decision—especially around data use, cancellation, or dispute terms—follow the summary to the relevant clause and read the original wording.

Can I get a one-time email address?

Guerrilla Mail

Guerrilla Mail provides a disposable email address without registration, which can be useful for a low-stakes sign-up when you do not want to give out your regular address. Some websites block disposable addresses, and this is a poor choice for any account you may need to recover.

The service’s FAQ warns that anyone who knows the Inbox ID may access the inbox and says delivered mail is deleted after one hour. Do not use it for banking, government, employment, sensitive correspondence, or shopping accounts tied to order history or recovery. Treat it as a temporary receptacle, not a private mailbox.

Can I find an older snapshot of a public web page?

archive.ph

archive.ph is commonly used to request or view snapshots of public web pages, which can help when comparing how a page has changed or locating a version that is no longer available at its original address. Its current behavior and availability could not be verified here, so check the site directly before relying on it.

An archived copy does not grant permission to republish copyrighted material, and an archive should not be treated as a way to bypass access restrictions. Use snapshots for reference and link to the original publisher when possible.

Can I find a legal free copy of a research paper?

Unpaywall

Unpaywall helps locate open-access versions of scholarly papers. It says it gathers papers from legal sources such as university and government repositories, scholarly societies, and publisher-hosted open content. Its browser extension is available for Chrome and Firefox on desktop, according to its extension page.

Unpaywall has also advertised that 52% of research papers read by its users are read for free. That is the service’s own figure; the page retrieved does not state a year, and its methodology was not independently validated. Treat the percentage as a promotional claim, not a guarantee that any particular paper will be available. The tool points to legal open copies; it is not a paywall-bypass service.

What activity is saved to my Google account?

Google My Activity

Google My Activity lets a signed-in user review and manage activity associated with their Google account, including searches, websites visited, and videos watched, as described by Google’s help page. What appears depends on account settings and whether the relevant history was saved. It is not a complete dashboard of every kind of data Google collects or processes.

How can I see aircraft broadcast data?

ADS-B Exchange

ADS-B Exchange displays aircraft broadcasts received by its network. Aircraft equipped with ADS-B transmit position and flight information; the service says its map presents broadcasts as received. Its 2026 homepage reports more than 25,000 active receivers and position updates every 500 milliseconds. Those are current figures published by the service, not independently measured coverage guarantees.

A missing aircraft does not prove that it is not flying. Map visibility depends on aircraft equipment and signals, geography, receiver distribution, and other technical conditions. You can view the map without buying hardware; an ADS-B receiver and antenna are relevant only if you want to receive broadcasts yourself.

Which site fits the task?

Site Best for What to keep in mind
JustWatch Finding services that list a movie or show Regional, changing listings may be rentals or purchases rather than subscription-included viewing.
Radio Garden Exploring live radio by location The service says it collects personal and usage data.
ToS;DR Screening terms and privacy policies Community summaries and grades are not legal advice or regulator rulings.
Guerrilla Mail Low-stakes, temporary email Inbox access depends on keeping the Inbox ID secret; delivered mail is deleted after one hour.
archive.ph Seeking a snapshot of a public page Current availability was not verified; a snapshot does not create republication rights.
Unpaywall Locating legal open versions of research papers It points to copies available through open-access sources; a specific paper may not have one.
Google My Activity Reviewing activity saved to a Google account Visible history depends on settings and saved activity; it is not a complete data-collection record.
ADS-B Exchange Viewing aircraft broadcasts received by its network Reception and coverage affect what appears; the map does not guarantee visibility of every aircraft.
