To fix an Apple Home accessory that says “No Response,” first check whether the problem affects one manufacturer or several. Then follow the matching steps below, checking the Home app after each change. Start with power, the maker’s app, and shared network conditions—not a factory reset or a new home hub.
First, identify which devices are affected
In the Home app, check whether the unresponsive accessories all come from one manufacturer or whether devices from several manufacturers are affected. Apple’s troubleshooting steps differ because a single-maker problem may point to those accessories, their app, or a bridge, while failures across manufacturers call for checks of shared devices and network conditions. Test the Home app after every step and stop when the accessory responds.

- One manufacturer: Follow the device and manufacturer checks first.
- Several manufacturers: Check the controlling device’s software and Wi-Fi, then shared network equipment.
- HomePod or HomePod mini: Use the separate HomePod checks below.
If accessories from one manufacturer show “No Response”
- Turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac you are using to check the accessory.
- Restart the accessory. If it uses batteries, remove and reinstall them; check that it has power.
- Check the manufacturer’s app. See whether the accessory responds there and whether a firmware update is available. If it also fails in the maker’s app, consult the manufacturer’s instructions before resetting it.
- Restart bridges and home hubs. Unplug and reconnect power to relevant third-party bridges and home hubs, such as HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV.
- If it is a third-party Thread accessory, disconnect it from power for five minutes, reconnect it, and allow ten minutes for the Thread network to stabilise. These timings apply to Apple’s stated Thread procedure, not every smart-home accessory.
- Remove and re-add the accessory only if the earlier checks fail. Remove it from Home, or from the manufacturer’s app if Home does not offer removal. Reset it using the maker’s instructions, then add it again. If it remains unresponsive, contact the manufacturer.
If accessories from several manufacturers show “No Response”
- Update the controlling device—iPhone, iPad, or Mac—to the latest available software, then close and reopen the Home app.
- Check Wi-Fi. Connect the controlling device to the same Wi-Fi network as the accessories. A home hub is required for controlling accessories remotely; that requirement does not establish that a hub will repair a local connection fault.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the controlling device. Restart affected accessories and check each maker’s app for device response and firmware updates.
- Apply the Thread power cycle if relevant: for third-party Thread accessories, disconnect power for five minutes, reconnect, and wait ten minutes for the network to stabilise.
- Restart shared equipment if the accessories still fail: modem, router, third-party bridges, home hubs, affected accessories, and the controlling iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Check VPN or third-party security software. Apple notes these can cause network connectivity problems. If accessories across manufacturers remain unresponsive after these checks, contact Apple Support.
If HomePod or HomePod mini is the device showing “No Response”
- Open Home and inspect HomePod alerts. Look for details about Wi-Fi, the Apple Account, or another reported issue.
- Check its Wi-Fi signal indicator in HomePod settings. Apple describes two bars or fewer as a weak signal. Move HomePod nearer the router and reduce possible wireless interference.
- Restart HomePod. Use the restart control in Home settings. If it is unavailable, unplug HomePod and reconnect its power.
- For a “Network Issue” or “No Internet” alert, restart HomePod and the modem/router, and check that HomePod and the iPhone use the same preferred Wi-Fi network.
- Reset only if it still does not respond after these checks, following Apple’s reset guidance.
When setup or re-adding is the actual problem
An accessory that cannot be added is a different situation from one already in Home that now says “No Response.” If you are setting up or re-adding a device, Apple’s setup guidance says some accessories are incompatible with 5 GHz Wi-Fi and need a 2.4 GHz network. Power the accessory, bring it nearer the router during setup, check for firmware updates, and use the manufacturer’s reset instructions if needed. Do not assume Wi-Fi band incompatibility explains every existing “No Response” status.

When a home hub matters
Apple says a home hub is needed for remote accessory control. Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini can serve as home hubs. If accessories work locally but you need to control them remotely, check that a home hub is set up. Adding one is not a substitute for diagnosing an accessory that fails on the local network.
