Update the original console, connect both systems to the internet, keep them close together, and link the same Nintendo Account to the relevant user on each system. On the original Switch, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console, select the user and Paper Perjury, then complete the pairing prompts on both consoles.
This transfer moves the save instead of copying it. Nintendo deletes the selected save from the source Switch after it is sent. Do not reset, trade in, or sell the old console until Paper Perjury starts correctly on Switch 2 and your progress is present.

What you need before starting
Prepare both consoles before opening the transfer menu. The following conditions apply to the selective, nearby-console method:

Updating both consoles is the safest approach if Switch 2 also reports an available update.
- Connect both consoles to the internet. The consoles must be able to communicate with Nintendo’s services while the transfer is arranged.
- Keep the original Switch and Switch 2 close together during pairing and transfer.
- Link the same Nintendo Account to the user on both systems. A save belongs to the user profile that created it, so select that matching user rather than a different profile.
- Make sure Paper Perjury is installed or otherwise available on Switch 2 so you can launch it immediately after the transfer.
- Keep both consoles powered and usable until the process finishes. Do not close the transfer screens or put either system to sleep while data is moving.
Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for this nearby transfer. You need the consoles, an internet connection and the matching account; a subscription is not a prerequisite for the selective procedure.

Recommended method: nearby save-data transfer
This is the focused option when you want to move Paper Perjury without transferring every user, setting and game from the old console. It works after Switch 2 has already completed its initial setup.
1. Open the sending menu on the original Switch
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Transfer Your Save Data.
- Select Send Save Data to Another Console.
The wording above is Nintendo’s current menu path. If the option is missing or unavailable, finish any pending system update and check that the console is online before trying again.
2. Choose the correct user and game
Select the user profile that owns your Paper Perjury progress. When the software list appears, choose Paper Perjury. Selecting another profile or another title will transfer that profile’s save instead, so check the user name and game title before confirming.
3. Pair the two consoles
Follow the on-screen prompts to identify Switch 2 as the receiving console. On Switch 2, follow the corresponding receive or pairing instructions shown by the system. Keep the consoles close together and connected to the internet until Nintendo reports that the transfer is complete.
4. Wait for completion
Do not interrupt the process. The selected save is sent to Switch 2, and Nintendo removes that save from the original Switch after the send operation finishes. This is a move, not a duplicate backup.
5. Verify the destination before touching the old console
- Open Paper Perjury on Switch 2 using the matching Nintendo Account user.
- Confirm that your existing progress, chapters, unlocks or other in-game state appears as expected.
- Only after that check should you reset, trade in, sell or otherwise dispose of the original Switch.
If the game starts without your progress, stop and do not erase or initialize either system. Check that you opened the game under the same user profile used for the transfer, then review the transfer status and Nintendo’s support guidance before attempting another operation.
What happens to the save on the old Switch?
The source save is deleted when a nearby transfer succeeds. Nintendo’s procedure is intentionally designed to relocate the selected save to another console, not to leave a second playable copy behind. You therefore cannot use this method as a temporary backup while keeping the original save available on the old Switch.

Because the deletion occurs after the send operation, verification is the critical safety step. Launch Paper Perjury on Switch 2, select the transferred user, and load the game before performing a factory reset or handing over the old hardware. If you need the old console for another reason, leave it untouched until the destination has been checked.
Nearby transfer versus full System Transfer
Switch 2 also supports Nintendo’s broader System Transfer. The right choice depends on whether you are moving one game’s progress or setting up the new console as a replacement for the old one.

The local System Transfer is intended for a replacement-console setup. Nintendo describes it as a way to move digital games, compatible save data, users and settings when both consoles are present. If Switch 2 has not completed initial setup, this can be more efficient than transferring individual titles one at a time.
Using local System Transfer during first-time setup
- Start Switch 2 and proceed through its initial setup until the system offers the transfer function.
- Keep the original Switch nearby, powered on and connected to the internet.
- Choose the local communication option when both consoles are available.
- Follow the prompts to select the source console and approve the movement of users, settings, digital games and compatible save data.
- After setup finishes, launch Paper Perjury under the transferred user and verify the save before resetting the original Switch.
The exact list of compatible content can vary by software and system data. A full transfer is broader than the selective menu and may move content you did not intend to move, so use the nearby save-data path when your goal is only Paper Perjury.

Using a server transfer when the old console goes first
A server transfer is designed for the situation in which the original Switch must be handed over before you finish setting up Switch 2. You upload the data from the old console, then retrieve it on Switch 2 during initial setup. Nintendo warns that uploading initializes the source console, so treat this as a one-way handoff: complete any needed checks before starting, and do not expect to keep using the old system afterward.
Because initialization happens at upload time, a server transfer is not the preferred route when both consoles are sitting in front of you. Use local communication instead, or use the selective nearby method if Switch 2 is already configured.
Can Nintendo Switch Online cloud saves transfer Paper Perjury?
Cloud Save Data is separate from the nearby-console feature and requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo’s consulted support information does not establish whether Paper Perjury is cloud-compatible, so do not assume that a subscription alone will make the save available.

Check compatibility on the eShop
Open the Paper Perjury software details in Nintendo eShop and look for the Save Data Cloud compatibility information. The listing is title-specific; the presence of cloud support for another game does not prove that Paper Perjury supports it.
Check from the HOME Menu
- Highlight Paper Perjury on the HOME Menu.
- Press the + or – button to open the software options.
- Look for Save Data Cloud.
- If the menu identifies the software as unsupported, use the nearby-console save-data transfer instead.
Cloud availability can be different from ordinary game ownership or download availability. Verify the title’s own setting before relying on Nintendo Switch Online as your only migration plan.

- Choose nearby save-data transfer when Switch 2 is already configured, both consoles are present, and you want only the Paper Perjury save. It does not require Nintendo Switch Online, but it removes the selected save from the old Switch.
- Choose local System Transfer when Switch 2 is in initial setup and you want to move the broader collection of compatible games, users, save data and settings together.
- Choose server System Transfer only when the old Switch must be initialized or surrendered before Switch 2 can be set up. Uploading initializes the source, so this option sacrifices continued use of that console.
- Choose Save Data Cloud only after confirming that Paper Perjury supports it and confirming that your Nintendo Switch Online membership is active.
Troubleshooting the nearby transfer
The transfer option is not visible
Install the latest system update on the original Switch, reconnect it to the internet and reopen System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data. Confirm that you are using the system settings on the console that contains the save and that the relevant user is present.
The consoles do not pair
Move the consoles closer together, verify that both have internet access and restart the pairing sequence from the sender’s menu. Keep both systems awake and at the transfer screens. A nearby transfer depends on the consoles being available at the same time; it is not the right method if the old system has already been handed over.
Paper Perjury is not listed
Check that you selected the user profile that actually played the game. Save data is associated with the user, so a different profile may show a different software list. If the title still does not appear, confirm that the game is installed or recognized on the source system and that the console has completed its update.

The game opens on Switch 2 but progress is missing
Exit without creating new progress, then verify that you launched the game with the same Nintendo Account-linked user chosen during transfer. Do not initialize either console while investigating. If the source save has already been deleted, contact Nintendo Support before attempting another transfer or cloud operation.
You planned to trade in the old Switch
Do not use the server-transfer route casually. Uploading for a server transfer initializes the source. If both consoles are still available, use local System Transfer during Switch 2 setup or the nearby save-data method after setup, then verify Paper Perjury before the trade-in.
Final pre-reset checklist
- Paper Perjury launches on Switch 2.
- The correct Nintendo Account-linked user is selected.
- Your existing save is visible and loads successfully.
- You have checked any other games or users you intended to move.
- You no longer need the original Switch’s local copy of the transferred save.
Once every item is confirmed, you can reset, sell or trade in the original console with confidence. Until then, keep it intact: the nearby procedure has already removed the selected Paper Perjury save from that system.
