Use The Witcher 3’s built-in cross-progression to move a save between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox: link both copies of the game to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, make a new save on the source platform, and confirm its cloud icon before opening Load Game on the destination. This is an account-based cloud transfer, not a manual file copy.
Before you start
- Update The Witcher 3 on both platforms. CD PROJEKT RED says the installed patch version appears on the main menu beneath the game title.
- Use the same CD PROJEKT RED account on the source and destination copies. If you do not have one, you can register for free when prompted.
- Have access to both platform versions of the game. CD PROJEKT RED says My Rewards is available on the platform and version you are using, including backwards-compatible play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its FAQ lists PC storefronts, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo: CD PROJEKT RED My Rewards FAQ.
Transfer a save between platforms
- On the source platform, open Load Game. Choose the Cross Progression prompt or button displayed on screen.
- Link your CD PROJEKT RED account. Follow the on-screen instructions. Cross-progression is enabled by default after linking; you can also check or change it under Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression.
- Create a new save. The game uploads it automatically. Wait for the cloud icon to appear beside the save name before leaving the source platform.
- On the destination platform, open My Rewards. Sign in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account you linked on the source platform.
- Open Load Game. Your uploaded save should appear in the list; select it to continue.
These are the general steps in CD PROJEKT RED’s cross-progression guide. The key checkpoint is the cloud icon: do not assume a save has uploaded until it appears next to the new save.

Transfer from PS4 to PS5
For the specific PS4-to-PS5 route, CD PROJEKT RED’s instructions name patch 4.04 for the PS4 version. On PS4, connect through My Rewards, create a save and wait for its cloud icon; then launch the PS5 version, connect the same account, and find the uploaded save in Load Game. Follow the dedicated PS4-to-PS5 transfer instructions for that route.
If the save does not appear or load
No cloud icon on the source save
Check that the source copy is connected to your CD PROJEKT RED account and that cross-progression is enabled under Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression. Create a fresh save and look for the icon beside its name.

Save missing from destination Load Game
Open My Rewards on the destination copy and verify that it is linked to the same account used on the source platform. Then check Load Game again.
A modded save will not load correctly
CD PROJEKT RED says the same set of mods needs to be enabled on both platforms. A missing or incompatible mod can prevent a save from loading properly. For a PC-to-console transfer, check whether the PC mods are available on the console version. See CD PROJEKT RED’s guidance on mods and cross-progression.

Version and platform notes
The general support guide advises updating to the latest patch, while the dedicated PS4-to-PS5 page specifies patch 4.04 for the PS4 copy. CD PROJEKT RED does not publish a complete compatibility matrix covering every legacy edition, storefront, and regional build, so an older or unusual version may need its own current support guidance.
On September 29, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered for GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and said the upgrade would be free for existing owners on specified platforms. Storefront and edition availability can change; check the current game listing for the destination platform. The announcement is available at CD PROJEKT RED’s official news page.
