You cannot transfer a complete zoo save between Career, Sandbox and Franchise in Planet Zoo 2. Each mode keeps its own animals, money, research, accreditation, objectives and progression. To reuse your work, save a habitat, building, scenery group or other construction as a blueprint, then place that creation in a zoo in another mode through the Frontier Workshop or the in-game blueprint browser. The construction moves; the source zoo does not.
The save boundary: what “transfer” means in Planet Zoo 2
A mode transfer would mean opening the same complete zoo—with its animals, cash balance, staff, research tree, guest economy and objectives—in a different game mode. Planet Zoo 2 does not support that. Career, Sandbox and Franchise saves remain separate.

The Planet Zoo 2 Wiki Team summarizes the rule directly: “Your zoos do not transfer between modes, so treat the first hour in each as a test.” In practical terms, a Career zoo cannot be converted into a Sandbox zoo, and a Franchise zoo cannot be opened as a Career or Sandbox save.

The supported alternative is creation sharing. You can preserve the parts you built yourself as blueprints or creations, publish or retain them in your library, and place copies in another zoo. This is an asset-level handoff rather than a save-file conversion.

How Career, Sandbox and Franchise handle your progress

The Planet Hub menu is available across modes for viewing locations, performance and related systems. Its cross-mode appearance is a navigation feature, not a shared-save system; opening Planet Hub does not merge or convert zoos.
What you can share—and what you cannot
Shareable creations
- Habitats, buildings, scenery sections and other player-made constructions saved as blueprints.
- Creations retained in your library or published through Frontier Workshop.
- Workshop creations that can be explored, downloaded, subscribed to and placed in zoos across platforms, as stated in Steam’s official listing.
Data that stays with the original mode or zoo
- The complete zoo save and its map state.
- Animals, including their welfare history, genetics, exhibit assignments and current location.
- Cash, income, loans, staff wages and other financial state.
- Research progress, unlocked technologies and mode-specific objectives.
- Career medals and Franchise accreditation. Frontier’s update states that accreditation is entirely separate for each game mode; Career medals do not advance Franchise accreditation, and Franchise accreditation does not award Career medals.
- Guest populations, education levels, donation totals, staff assignments and other live simulation data.
Saving a blueprint does not delete, overwrite or convert the original zoo. Keep the source save even after publishing a creation; the blueprint is a reusable copy of the selected construction.
How to move a zoo build to another mode
Use this workflow when you want a Career habitat in Sandbox, a Sandbox building in Franchise, or any other mode-to-mode reuse.

- Open the source zoo. Load the Career scenario, Sandbox zoo or Franchise location that contains the construction you want to reuse. Identify the habitat, building or scenery section before leaving the zoo.
- Select the construction for saving. Use the game’s save, blueprint or Workshop command for the selected structure. Include every connected piece you want in the reusable design; anything outside the saved selection will not appear when the blueprint is placed.
- Save it as a blueprint or creation. Give the item a distinctive name and retain it in your creations library. If you want to make it available through Workshop, publish it using the game’s Workshop option.
- Check the saved item. Confirm that the blueprint appears in your library or Workshop list before closing the source zoo. This catches selection or save errors while the original construction is still available for reference.
- Open the destination mode. Start or load the target Career scenario, Sandbox zoo or Franchise location. The destination must have its own zoo save; there is no “convert this zoo” command.
- Open the blueprint or Workshop browser. Find the saved creation in your personal library, subscriptions or the relevant Workshop view. Download or subscribe if the item is stored online rather than locally.
- Place the blueprint. Position and build the creation in the destination zoo. Check terrain, paths, utilities, barriers and guest access after placement, because the destination map and settings may differ from the source.
- Reconfigure the zoo manually. Add animals, assign staff, set finances, complete research and meet the destination mode’s objectives. None of those live systems are embedded in the construction blueprint.
- Keep the source save. Blueprint reuse creates a copy in the destination; it does not synchronize later edits or turn the two zoos into one shared file.
What you must rebuild after placing a blueprint
A blueprint preserves the designed structure, not the operational state around it. Plan the destination work in these categories:
- Animals: Acquire or move animals using the systems available in the destination mode. A Career animal is not automatically available in Franchise, and a Franchise animal cannot be imported into Sandbox by placing a building blueprint.
- Money: Budget for construction, utilities, staff and habitat contents using the destination zoo’s funds. The source balance, loans and income do not follow the blueprint.
- Research: Research technologies again where the destination mode requires them. Unlocked research is not a property of the building file.
- Staff and operations: Hire staff, assign work zones, configure facilities and reconnect utilities. Assignments from the source simulation are not shared.
- Objectives and progression: Career objectives, medals and scenario state remain with the original Career save. A placed design does not satisfy a destination objective unless you complete that objective there.
- Accreditation: Treat mode accreditation as independent. Frontier specifically says accreditation is entirely separate for each game mode.
The limited Career-to-Sandbox export option
Frontier patch notes mention a fix for a “Terrain Only” option when exporting a Career scenario to Sandbox. This is a narrow scenario-export feature. It should not be read as support for moving a complete Career zoo, inventory, animals, money, research or progression into Sandbox.
If your goal is to continue the exact Career simulation, use the original Career save. If your goal is to reuse the landscape or a design idea in a creative zoo, use the terrain option where available or save the relevant structures as blueprints, then expect to establish the destination zoo’s systems yourself.

Franchise trading is not cross-mode sharing
Franchise can connect multiple zoos and Wildlife Reserves inside one Franchise network. Within that network, animals, money and research can participate in the Franchise structure, and the mode includes animal trading with other players. That connection stops at the Franchise boundary.

You also cannot use Franchise trading to make two players edit one Career or Sandbox zoo together.
Workshop sharing versus multiplayer co-op
Workshop sharing is asynchronous distribution of a saved creation. You publish or retain a blueprint, another player downloads or subscribes to it, and they place their own copy in a zoo. The process does not keep the copies synchronized.

The researched mode guide describes no multiplayer shared session for jointly editing one zoo. Therefore, do not treat a Workshop subscription as co-op access: it shares the design asset, not the live zoo, simulation, finances or progression.

“Can I move my Career zoo to Sandbox?”
Not as a complete save. Save the habitat, building or scenery you want as a blueprint, then place it in a Sandbox zoo. Recreate the animals, finances, research and objectives in Sandbox.

No complete Franchise save transfer is supported. Blueprint the construction and place it in Sandbox; Franchise animals, network finances and research remain in Franchise.
“Can I use my Career animals in Franchise?”
There is no direct cross-mode animal transfer described by the mode rules. Career animals remain part of the Career scenario. In Franchise, obtain animals through the Franchise systems available to that network.
“I saved a blueprint but cannot find it.”
- Check that you saved the item as a blueprint or creation rather than only saving the zoo.
- Open the same library, subscription or Workshop view in which you stored it.
- If it was published online, verify that the destination is connected to the service and that the item has finished downloading or subscribing.
- Return to the source zoo and save the selection again if the item is absent or incomplete.
“The blueprint placed, but the habitat does not work.”
Inspect terrain alignment, barriers, gates, paths, power, water, staff access and animal requirements in the destination zoo. A blueprint reproduces the construction; it does not guarantee that a different map or mode setting supplies the same connections or resources.
“My Career medals changed my Franchise accreditation.”
They should not. Frontier’s update says accreditation is entirely separate for each game mode, so progress in one mode does not advance the other.
“Planet Hub shows all my locations. Are those saves shared?”
No. Planet Hub can display locations and performance across modes without merging their underlying saves.
A safe way to reuse large projects
- Make a source backup. Keep the original zoo save untouched before experimenting with exports or large blueprint selections.
- Break complex projects into logical blueprints. Save a habitat, guest building, staff complex and scenery package separately when a single selection would be difficult to place.
- Name versions clearly. Include the project, section and revision in each creation name so you can identify the correct item in a large library.
- Test in a small destination zoo. Place the blueprint before investing in a full Franchise network or a long Career scenario. Confirm that paths, utilities and barriers behave as expected.
- Document manual setup. Note the animals, staff, research and utilities the original construction needed; use that list to rebuild the destination efficiently.
These practices preserve the original simulation while letting you reuse the work that matters most: your physical designs. The underlying rule remains unchanged—Planet Zoo 2 shares creations, not complete zoos, between Career, Sandbox and Franchise.
