Progress is attached to the Activision account
Activision states that online play requires an Activision account and that game progression is stored on that account for continued play on another linked platform. Its account-management guidance likewise describes cross-progression for linked accounts. In practical terms, use one intended Activision account as the identity for your console and PC connections rather than creating a separate account on each device.

Supported platforms named in the Modern Warfare 4 support hub
The Modern Warfare 4 support hub lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Battle.net as supported online platforms. The account-linking warning also names PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo accounts. The presence of a platform in that warning does not, by itself, establish that every edition or mode is available there; check the platform support information for your specific purchase and region.
The relinking warning matters
“Please note: If you choose to link your PlayStation, XBOX, Battle.net, Steam, or Nintendo account to another Activision account, you will not have access to your progress.”
Do not switch a platform identity to a different Activision account simply because you are moving to a new device. If you are unsure which account is connected, verify the account association before launching the game on the target platform and before unlinking anything.

Prepare the old console or PC before switching
The best transfer is a measured transcription, not a memory exercise. Keep the old device available until the new setup has passed a complete control check.

1. Capture every setting, not just sensitivity
Use clear photographs or a written list. Capture one screen at a time so decimal values and toggle states are legible. Include:
- Button layout preset and every custom reassignment.
- Horizontal and vertical look sensitivity.
- ADS or aiming sensitivity and any per-zoom values displayed.
- Left-stick and right-stick dead zones.
- Trigger dead zones or trigger thresholds, if available.
- Controller vibration and any trigger-feedback setting.
- Aim-assist type, behavior and related toggles.
- Sprint, crouch, slide, prone, reload and interaction behavior.
- Vehicle, melee, tactical and equipment controls.
- Any accessibility or gameplay input options that change how a button behaves.
Record the exact number shown rather than describing a value as “low,” “fast” or “default.” If the old platform displays a preset name, record that name as well as any custom changes made after selecting it.
2. Confirm the account identity
Check that the old platform account is linked to the Activision account you intend to use on the target device. This is the point to resolve duplicate accounts or an old email address. Do not unlink and relink experimentally while your progress is attached to the current account.

3. Note hardware differences
Console and PC controllers can expose different features. A PC connection may use a wired or wireless controller, while a console may apply platform-specific vibration or trigger behavior. Write down the game values separately from hardware features so you can tell whether a mismatch comes from a setting or from the controller itself.

Manual transfer procedure
- Photograph or write down the old configuration. Work through the entire controller and gameplay-input menu, including pages that are easy to overlook such as dead zones, trigger settings and vehicle controls.
- Leave the old account linkage unchanged. Confirm the platform identity is connected to the intended Activision account before changing devices.
- Install or launch Modern Warfare 4 on the target platform. The cited support hub names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Battle.net; availability can vary by edition, platform and region.
- Sign in with the same Activision account. Do not create a new account merely because the target platform has a different store, launcher or console profile.
- Connect a supported controller. Activision’s cloud-gaming guidance specifies a supported controller or mouse and keyboard. On PC, confirm that the game is receiving controller input rather than silently using keyboard-and-mouse bindings.
- Open the controller settings menu. Menu wording can vary by platform or game update, so use the in-game controller and input categories rather than relying on a memorized path from another device.
- Re-enter the recorded values. Apply the button layout first, then sensitivity, ADS values, dead zones, trigger behavior, vibration, aim assist and gameplay toggles. Save or apply changes whenever the menu requires it.
- Check for accidental defaults. Moving between presets can overwrite individual bindings. Revisit each page after selecting a preset and compare it with your photographs or notes.
- Test before competitive play. In a private match or training environment, check movement, aiming, ADS, sprint, crouch, reload, equipment, vehicles and any custom actions. Correct one category at a time so you can identify the source of a problem.
How to reproduce the feel accurately
Button layout and custom bindings
Start with the layout preset because it can change several actions at once. Then compare every custom assignment individually. Pay particular attention to actions that share a button, hold-versus-tap behavior and controls that only appear in a vehicle or alternate gameplay context. A layout that looks correct on the first page can still contain a changed reload, melee or equipment action on a later page.
Sensitivity and ADS values
Copy the displayed numbers exactly, including separate horizontal and vertical values. If the target menu presents a different scale or groups values differently, use the closest named equivalent and test it rather than assuming two labels are numerically identical. ADS settings should be entered independently from general look sensitivity when the game exposes them.
Dead zones and drift
Dead-zone values affect the point at which stick movement begins registering. Enter the old values first, then check whether the new controller remains centered when you release both sticks. If the target controller shows drift at the old value, raise the affected dead zone only as much as needed and note the adjustment; that is a hardware calibration change, not an account transfer.
Aim assist and feedback
Reapply aim-assist selections and controller feedback options manually. Test aim assist in the same type of practice environment you used for the old setup. Vibration or trigger feedback can make a controller feel different even when sensitivity numbers match, so verify those toggles before judging the result.

Verification checklist before a real match
- Move in every direction and confirm that sprint, crouch, slide and prone actions respond as expected.
- Turn, aim down sights and fire while checking both ordinary and ADS sensitivity.
- Reload, swap weapons, use melee and activate tactical or equipment actions.
- Drive or operate a vehicle if you use custom vehicle controls.
- Test buttons that use holds, taps or double inputs.
- Confirm vibration and trigger behavior match your recorded choices.
- Check that the controller remains connected and is recognized as the active input device.
- Play long enough to detect an intermittent button, wireless drop or stick-drift problem before entering a ranked or otherwise important match.
Troubleshooting common transfer problems
Your progress is missing
Stop changing controller settings and check account identity first. Confirm that the target platform is linked to the same Activision account used on the old device. A platform account connected to a different Activision account will not expose the prior progress, according to Activision’s warning. Avoid creating or linking another account until the original association is resolved.
Your settings look like defaults
This is consistent with the absence of documented controller-setting synchronization. Reopen the controller menu and enter the recorded values manually. Verify that selecting a layout preset did not reset later custom bindings, then save and restart the game if the menu does not immediately reflect a change.
The controller is not responding on PC
Confirm that the controller is supported, connected before launching the game when possible, and selected as the active input method. If the game shows mouse-and-keyboard prompts, correct the input connection before adjusting sensitivity; changing in-game numbers will not fix an unrecognized controller.
The new controller feels different
Compare hardware first: stick wear, trigger travel, wireless connection and feedback features can alter the feel without changing the game values. Recheck dead zones for drift and confirm vibration or trigger settings. Make only one adjustment at a time, record it, and test again.

A binding works in one mode but not another
Review mode-specific pages such as vehicles, equipment or alternate interaction behavior. Re-enter the action in the relevant category and test it in the environment where you plan to use it.

Console-to-PC and cloud-gaming considerations
Moving from a console to PC changes more than the screen. The PC installation and launcher must be supported for your edition, the same Activision account must be used, and the connected controller must be recognized by the game. Keep the old console notes open while entering values on PC because labels, ordering and available hardware toggles may differ.
For the cloud-gaming scenario covered by Activision’s guidance, use a supported controller or mouse and keyboard. Cloud streaming does not create a documented controller-settings sync; it only provides another way to run the game with compatible input hardware. You still need to reproduce the in-game values and test for latency or connection behavior before relying on the setup.

Protect your progression while changing devices
- Choose one Activision account as the permanent account for the platforms you intend to use.
- Verify the existing linkage before signing in on the target device.
- Do not unlink a platform account just to make a new device appear in the account list.
- Do not assume that a successful login means controller preferences have loaded; inspect the settings menu.
- Keep the old photographs or notes until the new configuration has been tested and saved.
Final decision
Use the same Activision account for documented progression, but plan on a manual controller-settings transfer. Record the old configuration, enter it on the new console or PC, confirm that the controller is supported, and run a complete private or training test. That process avoids the two most expensive mistakes: losing access to account-linked progress through an incorrect relink and entering a competitive match with default or partially reset controls.
