The most direct route is vivo’s EasyShare Phone clone: open Phone clone on the old Android phone, display its QR code, then open EasyShare > Phone clone on the vivo foldable, choose Android as the old-phone type, and scan the code. Select the content to copy and accept the transfer on the vivo. Keep both phones charged, leave the old phone unlocked, check free storage on the vivo, and do not erase the old phone until you have checked your important data.
Android’s own setup wizard is a separate option. It can copy data by cable or, on supported devices, wirelessly. It may cover different categories from Phone clone, so treat app-specific data, downloads, hidden-folder media, non-Google accounts and some settings as separate checks rather than assuming that either method creates a perfect byte-for-byte clone.

Choose the transfer method that fits your situation
Your best method depends on whether the old phone is present, whether the vivo foldable has completed setup, and whether you have a compatible cable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Route | Old phone needed? | When to use it | Main connection | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| vivo EasyShare Phone clone | Yes, unlocked and working | Direct migration to the vivo foldable | QR-paired phone-to-phone transfer | Review the selection carefully; same-app data on the new phone is overwritten when the transfer finishes. |
| Android setup copy | Normally yes | During initial setup of the vivo | Compatible cable, or wireless transfer where supported | Google lists categories that are not copied, including downloads, hidden-folder media and some app data. |
| Google Account backup restore | No, if a usable backup already exists | When the old phone is unavailable or cannot be used | Internet connection and the existing backup | Only backed-up content can be restored, and Android-version compatibility matters. |
These routes can be used separately or as complements. For example, you can use Android setup transfer for the initial migration and then inspect files or apps that are outside its coverage. The exact EasyShare labels and screens can differ by vivo foldable model, region and software version, so follow the prompts shown on your device.

A quick decision checklist
- The old phone is available and unlockable: start with EasyShare Phone clone if you want vivo’s direct QR-paired workflow.
- You are still in first-time setup: compare Phone clone with Android’s copy-apps-and-data screen. A cable is Google’s recommended setup path when the connectors and cable are compatible.
- The old phone is lost, broken or inaccessible: use the Google Account restore option, but only if a backup was already enabled and contains what you need.
- The foldable is already configured: look first for a “Finish setting up” or manufacturer copy-data option. Do not reset the phone until any newly created data is backed up.
Prepare both phones before copying anything
- Charge both devices. A long transfer can take from a few minutes to a few hours in Google’s Android setup flow, depending on the amount of data and the process used. Keep both phones connected to power if possible.
- Unlock the old Android phone. You need to open apps, approve prompts and, for some services, sign in. If the old phone is locked and you cannot recover its passcode, direct Phone clone may not be possible.
- Connect the vivo to the internet. Internet access is required for Android’s setup copy flow and for account-based restoration. In Google’s setup flow, both phones need an internet connection. It also lets you complete app sign-ins and updates after the transfer.
- Check storage on the vivo. In Settings, inspect available storage before selecting a large photo, video or download library. Insufficient space can leave a transfer incomplete even when the connection itself works.
- Update or record critical app access. Have passwords, two-factor authentication methods and recovery codes available. A copied app is not always a copied session, and some apps require a fresh sign-in or their own export process.
- Confirm the source phone can stay available. Keep its screen unlocked when a prompt asks for approval, and do not begin a second migration utility while the first one is running.
- Do not reset the old phone yet. Keep it available until contacts, photos, messages, files and high-priority apps have been checked on the foldable.
Method 1: Use vivo EasyShare Phone clone
Phone clone is vivo’s direct, QR-paired migration route. It is the most model-specific option in this guide, but the manuals cited for vivo describe the workflow generically. Your foldable may use slightly different icons or wording.
Start Phone clone on the old Android phone
- Open the Phone clone function on the old Android phone. If the app is presented inside EasyShare, open EasyShare first and select Phone clone.
- Choose the option that makes the old phone the sending device. The phone should generate a QR code for pairing.
Pair the vivo foldable
- On the new vivo, open EasyShare > Phone clone.
- When asked for the old-phone type, choose Android.
- Use the vivo’s scanner to scan the QR code displayed on the old phone.
- Approve any connection or permission prompts on both devices. Keep the phones close together and avoid closing Phone clone while the connection is being established.
Select content and begin the copy
- Review the categories and files offered by the old phone.
- Deselect anything you do not need and confirm that the selected total fits the vivo’s available storage.
- Start cloning and accept the receive/transfer prompt on the new phone.
- Leave both phones alone until the completion message appears. Avoid launching other transfer tools at the same time.
vivo warns: "When file transfer is complete, the data of the same apps on the new phone will be overwritten." In practical terms, check what is already on the vivo before starting and do not select a source copy casually if you have begun configuring the same apps on the new device.
What to review on the selection screen
Use the selection screen as a scope check, not just a confirmation button. Note whether the listed items include the photo and video folders you care about, locally stored contacts, messages and files. Compare the estimated size with the free space on the foldable. If a category is absent, do not assume it will appear later; plan a separate export, download or account sign-in for that category.
Method 2: Copy apps and data during Android setup
Android’s setup wizard offers a different migration path. It can copy apps, certain app data, music, photos, videos, phone- or SIM-stored contacts, text messages and their multimedia, most phone settings, wallpaper and call history. The exact list varies by device and Android version.
Use a cable when the ports are compatible
- Turn on the vivo foldable and begin its initial setup.
- When setup asks whether to copy apps and data, choose to continue.
- Connect the old phone and the vivo with a compatible phone-to-phone data cable. If the connectors do not match, use an appropriate adapter; do not assume that a charging-only cable will carry data.
- Unlock the old phone and approve the prompts that authorize copying.
- Review the categories offered by the wizard, start the transfer and keep both devices connected until setup reports completion.
Google’s guidance recommends the cable route where possible because it avoids some wireless compatibility issues. The cable still has to fit both phones and support data transfer. If you are buying a cable, identify the connector on each phone first; the title alone does not establish which ports your particular foldable and older phone use.
Use wireless setup transfer when available
- On the setup screen, choose the wireless option if it is offered.
- Follow the pairing instructions on the vivo and old phone, including any confirmation code or permission request.
- Keep both phones connected to the internet and near each other while the copy runs.
- If the wireless option does not appear, the particular devices or software versions may not support it in that flow; return to the cable option or use EasyShare Phone clone.
A wireless transfer can be slower for a large photo or video library. Google does not provide a universal completion time, so allow the process to run rather than treating an apparently long transfer as failed immediately.
What Android setup transfer does and does not guarantee
Android’s setup copy is not a complete disk image. Google identifies several categories that are not copied by that flow:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- What You Get: Anker 515 USB-C to USB-C Cable (USB4, 3.3ft), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Downloaded files such as PDFs.
- Photos, videos and music stored in hidden folders.
- Apps installed outside Google Play.
- Data from apps that do not use Android backup.
- Non-Google accounts and the data associated with them.
- Contacts and calendars synchronized to non-Google services.
- Ringtones and certain device settings.
The included list is useful but not absolute. Apps may restore from Google Play without restoring their local databases, preferences or logged-in sessions. Manufacturer behavior also varies, so use the old phone to identify anything that exists only locally. Open its file manager, gallery and important apps; record folder names and account providers before you put the old phone away.
Handle downloads and hidden-folder media manually
Look in the old phone’s Downloads folder for PDFs, documents and installers. Check gallery albums or file-manager locations that are hidden from the normal media view. Copy those files with a supported file-transfer method, upload them to the service that owns them, or retain the old phone as the verified copy until you have opened them on the vivo. Do not count a visible number of gallery items as proof that every folder was included.
Expect separate sign-ins for non-Google accounts
Accounts from other providers, along with contacts and calendars synchronized through them, are outside the categories Google promises to copy. Add those accounts again on the vivo and allow their own synchronization to finish. If a service offers an export or backup function, follow that service’s instructions rather than assuming the Android setup wizard performed it.
WhatsApp requires its own backup conditions
Google says WhatsApp chats and data can restore from the cloud after you sign in and open WhatsApp on the new phone, but the WhatsApp backup must have been enabled on the old phone first. Confirm that the backup exists before retiring the old device, then use the same account and phone number expected by WhatsApp during restoration. If the old phone still works, open WhatsApp there and check its backup status before you start the migration.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Method 3: Restore an existing Google Account backup
If the old phone is lost, broken or unavailable, choose the restore option during the vivo’s setup and sign in to the Google Account that contains the backup. This method cannot recover data that was never included in a backup.
Check Android-version compatibility
Google’s backup guidance says a backup made on a higher Android version cannot be restored to a phone running a lower Android version. The devices should be on the same Android version, or the vivo should be on a later version. If the foldable is behind the old phone’s Android release, update it when the setup process offers an update or follow the current device instructions before relying on restoration. Even with compatible versions, inspect the restored result because backup coverage is category-specific.
Inspect what the backup contains
Backup details are important when a particular category matters. A visible Google Account backup does not prove that every app, download, non-Google account or hidden-folder file is included. Treat the backup as a recovery source for the items it records, not as evidence of a full clone. If a needed item is missing from the backup details, keep looking for an app-specific backup or another copy while the old phone remains available.

If the vivo has already been set up
Some Android phones show a Finish setting up prompt or a manufacturer-specific option to copy data after initial setup. Check the vivo’s Settings for such a prompt and follow the on-screen instructions if it exists.
Availability varies. If no supported post-setup option appears, Android’s normal restoration path may require resetting the new phone and running setup again. Do not factory-reset a configured foldable casually: first back up anything newly created on it, confirm the current vivo instructions for your model, and make sure you still have access to the old phone or its Google backup. EasyShare Phone clone may remain available as a direct route, but review its overwrite warning before using it on a phone that already contains data.
Protect data created on the foldable
Before any reset or second migration, list photos, messages, notes and downloads created on the vivo since setup. Back up or export them, and make sure you know which Google Account or other service will restore them. A reset intended to recover the skipped setup flow removes local data on the foldable.
Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer
The cable is not detected
- Unplug and firmly reseat both ends.
- Try another cable known to support data, not just charging.
- Check that an adapter is fully attached and compatible with both connectors.
- Inspect the old phone’s port for lint or debris and clean it only with a safe, non-damaging method.
- Unlock the old phone again and look for an authorization prompt.
- If cable troubleshooting fails, use the wireless option when the devices support it, or switch to EasyShare Phone clone.
Wireless transfer is missing or very slow
Only certain devices support Wi-Fi transfer in Android’s setup flow. Follow the vivo’s prompts rather than assuming that every Android pair can use wireless copying. Keep the phones close, connected to power and on a stable connection. For a large library, a slow progress indicator may simply reflect the amount of data; if the process stops, restart the transfer with fewer categories selected.
Phone clone will not pair
Return to the Phone clone screens on both devices and confirm that the old phone is set as the sender and the vivo as the receiver. Regenerate the QR code if the first pairing attempt has expired, approve pending permissions, and keep both apps open while scanning. If labels do not match these instructions, follow the prompts for the exact foldable model and software version rather than forcing a different menu path.
The transfer was skipped during setup
Look for Finish setting up or a copy-data option in Settings. If it is absent, check the current model-specific instructions before considering a reset. Back up any data now stored on the vivo, because a factory reset removes it.
The old phone is unavailable
Use an existing Google Account backup during setup. If no backup exists, or it lacks the needed category, the official Android guidance does not promise recovery of data that was never backed up. Contacting an app provider may be the only route for service-specific data, and some apps have no recovery path without their own backup.

Verify the vivo foldable before wiping the old phone
Verification is the final migration step, not an optional cleanup task. Use the old phone as a reference and check:
- Contacts stored on the phone and SIM.
- Recent and older photos and videos, including albums you rarely open.
- Text messages and multimedia messages.
- Call history.
- Downloads, PDFs and documents in the old phone’s file locations.
- WhatsApp and other high-priority messaging apps.
- Authenticator, banking, work and password-manager access.
- Calendars and contacts synchronized through non-Google services.
- Ringtones, wallpapers and device-specific settings you actually need.
Open representative files rather than checking only item counts. Confirm that important accounts can sign in and that photos or documents are available offline if that is required. Make a short checklist of anything that did not transfer, then either migrate it manually or mark it as safely backed up elsewhere. Keep the old phone until the items outside transfer coverage have another verified copy.

A practical final sign-off
- Make a test call and confirm the expected contacts and call history are present.
- Open recent and older photos, a video, a PDF and another document from the old phone.
- Send and receive a test message in each high-priority messaging app.
- Open WhatsApp and confirm the expected chats are visible after restoration.
- Sign in to banking, work, authenticator and password-manager apps before relying on them away from home.
- Only after these checks should you erase, trade in or recycle the old Android phone.
Model, region and software-version caveat
The instructions above describe vivo’s generic EasyShare Phone clone workflow and Google’s Android transfer guidance; the title does not identify a particular vivo foldable, country or firmware version. Menu names, icon placement, wireless availability and post-setup options can therefore differ. Use the labels displayed by the foldable and consult the manual for its exact model if a step is missing.
The practical decision is straightforward: use EasyShare Phone clone when the old Android phone is available and you want vivo’s direct QR-paired route; use Android setup transfer when you are starting the foldable and have a suitable cable or supported wireless path; use Google backup restore when the old phone cannot participate. In all three cases, inspect exclusions and verify the vivo before erasing the source phone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I transfer everything from my old Android phone to a vivo foldable?
For a direct migration, open Phone clone on the old Android phone, generate its QR code, then open EasyShare > Phone clone on the vivo, choose Android and scan the code. Review the selected categories, check free storage and start the transfer. No route guarantees a perfect byte-for-byte copy, so separately check downloads, hidden-folder media, app-specific data and non-Google accounts.
Can I transfer data to a vivo foldable after setup is complete?
Check Settings for a Finish setting up prompt or a manufacturer copy-data option. If none is available, the normal Android restore path may require running setup again, which can mean a factory reset. Back up data created on the vivo and confirm the current model instructions before resetting. EasyShare Phone clone may still be available, but it can overwrite same-app data on the new phone.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Android setup can copy apps, certain app data, photos, videos, phone- or SIM-stored contacts, messages and call history, subject to device and Android-version differences. WhatsApp restoration depends on a cloud backup enabled on the old phone. Apps installed outside Google Play, app data that does not use Android backup, downloads and hidden-folder media need separate checks.

Which is better: EasyShare Phone clone or Android setup transfer?
Neither is universally superior. EasyShare is vivo’s direct QR-paired route when the old phone is present and unlocked. Android setup offers a cable path recommended by Google and a wireless path on supported devices, with a documented list of included and excluded categories. Choose based on the old phone’s availability, setup status, cable compatibility and the data categories you need.
What if my old Android phone is lost or broken?
During vivo setup, sign in to the Google Account with an existing backup and choose restore. Only content included in that backup can return. The backup and the vivo should use the same Android version, or the vivo should be on a later version; a backup from a higher Android version cannot be restored to a lower one.
Why did some files or settings not appear on the vivo?
Google’s setup transfer excludes downloads such as PDFs, media in hidden folders, apps outside Google Play, data from apps that do not use Android backup, non-Google accounts and their data, non-Google-synced contacts and calendars, ringtones and certain settings. Inspect the old phone and use each app or service’s own export, sync or sign-in process.
How long will the transfer take?
Google describes Android setup transfer as taking from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the data and process. Large photo and video libraries can make wireless copying appear slow. Keep both phones powered and nearby, and do not interrupt a progress screen solely because it takes longer than expected.
Should I wipe my old phone as soon as the transfer finishes?
No. Verify contacts, photos, videos, messages, call history, downloads, documents, WhatsApp, non-Google calendars and contacts, and access to important apps. Open representative files instead of relying only on item counts. Erase or trade in the old phone only after missing items have another verified copy.
The Bottom Line
Use vivo EasyShare Phone clone for a direct QR-paired move from an unlocked Android phone, Android’s setup transfer for a compatible cable or supported wireless copy, and Google backup restore when the old phone cannot participate. None of these paths covers every category. Check exclusions, protect data already on the vivo, and keep the old phone until the foldable passes a hands-on verification.
