The easiest way to move data to a Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro is to use Android’s copy-data prompts during the phone’s initial setup, with your old phone unlocked and nearby. If that option is unavailable, try Xiaomi’s Mi Mover app; if you no longer have the old phone, restore a Google backup. None of these methods guarantees that every app’s private data or account-specific content will transfer, so verify important items before erasing the old device.
Before you start
- Charge both phones and keep the old one nearby. You’ll need to unlock it with its PIN, pattern, or password and approve prompts on its screen.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. If you may need a Google backup, confirm that the old phone has the right Google Account and a recent backup.
- Check available storage on the Redmi and decide what matters most. The transfer screens let you select offered items, but app and setting coverage is not complete.
- If you plan to use a cable, check which cable fits both phones and whether you need an adapter. Xiaomi lists a USB Type-C cable in the Redmi Note 15 Pro package contents, but contents can vary by region; check your box before buying one.
- Keep the old phone intact until you have checked the Redmi’s important data.
The global Redmi Note 15 Pro specifications page lists Xiaomi HyperOS 2. Setup screens and available options can differ by model, software build, and region. Google likewise cautions, “Some of these steps may vary based on your device.”

Copy directly during the Redmi’s initial setup
This is the best first option when you still have the old Android phone. Google’s Android-to-Android setup flow offers cable and wireless transfer; its guide says both methods support the same data.

- Turn on the Redmi Note 15 Pro and begin setup.
- When asked whether you want to set up with another device, choose the Android-device option and follow the Redmi’s pairing instructions. Google’s flow may ask you to scan a QR code.
- Unlock the old phone and approve the connection. Add or transfer your Google Account when prompted.
- Choose “Copy apps and data” or the similarly worded option, then select the content offered on screen.
- Keep both phones connected and follow the prompts until the Redmi reports that setup is complete. Use a compatible cable if the wired option appears and you prefer it; otherwise follow the wireless instructions.
- Check contacts, photos, videos, messages, apps, and important app-specific content on the Redmi before resetting the old phone.
Use Xiaomi Mi Mover if setup copy is unavailable
Xiaomi documents Mi Mover as a way to transfer selected data from other Android phones, Xiaomi phones, and iPhones to a new Xiaomi phone. It uses Wi-Fi Direct (WLAN Direct), so Xiaomi describes it as a local transfer that does not consume mobile data. Compatibility depends on the old phone model and operating-system version.

- Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both phones. Xiaomi’s instructions say each phone should be at least 30% charged and have the latest Mi Mover app installed.
- Open Mi Mover on both devices. Select “Old” on the Android phone and “New” on the Redmi.
- On the Redmi, select the old phone when it appears and connect the devices.
- Choose the data categories you want to send, read the on-screen reminders, and start the transfer.
- Keep the phones close, their screens on, and avoid switching apps until the transfer finishes. Follow the installed app’s prompts if they differ from these general steps.
Restore from a Google backup if the old phone is unavailable
- Begin setup on the Redmi and connect it to a network.
- Sign in with the Google Account used on the old phone.
- When offered, select the backup you want to restore and follow the prompts.
- Leave the phone on Wi-Fi and allow time for the restore to finish. Google says completion can take up to 24 hours, depending on the phone and Android version.
Restoration depends on what was backed up and on Android-version compatibility. Google says a backup made on a higher Android version cannot be restored to a phone running a lower Android version. Account-synced contacts may appear after sign-in. Music subscriptions and libraries generally require installing their apps and signing in to those services.
What may not transfer automatically
Google says its standard Android setup copy may not include data from apps that do not use Android backup, non-Google accounts and their data, contacts or calendars synced with non-Google services, ringtones, or some phone settings. The details vary by phone and Android version.

- WhatsApp: Google’s migration help points to a separate WhatsApp transfer procedure. Follow WhatsApp’s current in-app or official instructions, then check that the chats you need appear on the Redmi.
- Non-Google contacts and calendars: Sign in to the account or service that syncs them, or use that service’s export-and-import process.
- Local files and app-specific data: Check the original app’s own backup, export, or migration controls. Do not assume the general phone transfer copied private app data.
Which transfer method should you choose?

Fix common transfer problems
- The transfer disconnects or a phone runs out of power: Recharge both devices and retry. Google says a transfer can often be restarted.
- Copying appears stuck: If it has remained stuck for more than 15 minutes, Google advises stopping the copy and checking what transferred before trying again.
- Wireless copy is unavailable or slow: Follow the setup prompts to try a compatible cable. Check that it fits both phones, use an adapter if needed, and charge the devices.
- QR pairing fails: Try Google’s alternate pairing-code flow. If the old phone never receives a setup prompt, the Redmi may offer backup restore instead.
- You skipped copying during setup: Check Redmi setup notifications or Settings for a “Finish setting up” or copy-from-another-device option. Returning to setup varies by device and setup stage; a restore or reset may be required on some phones.
- Some items are missing: Check the Google backup contents, non-Google accounts, the relevant app’s transfer instructions, and Android-version compatibility.
