To move data to a Galaxy S25 Ultra, open Samsung Smart Switch on the Galaxy, choose to receive data, and follow the prompts for your old phone. For an iPhone, Samsung documents a cable transfer and an iCloud import; for another Android phone, it documents wireless and cable transfers. The available categories depend on the device, software and method, so check the S25 Ultra’s on-screen list rather than assuming everything will copy.
Before you start
- Charge both phones and update the old phone’s software. Keep the old phone available until you have checked the important data on the Galaxy.
- Decide which content matters most, then note the categories Smart Switch offers for your specific phones.
- Choose a route based on the source phone, available cable and access to any cloud account or verification method you need.
- If leaving an iPhone, turn off iMessage and FaceTime to help avoid missing messages. Apple’s current deregistration guidance is at Apple’s Deregister iMessage page.
Choose a transfer method
| Route | Best fit | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone by cable | You have a compatible cable or adapter and want a direct connection. | Check the iPhone port and follow the Galaxy’s Smart Switch prompts. Samsung lists Lightning-to-USB-C, or Lightning-to-USB with a USB-OTG adapter, for applicable configurations. |
| iPhone through iCloud | The iPhone data you need is synced to iCloud and you can sign in and complete verification. | Sync the iPhone first. Samsung cautions that some data may not transfer through iCloud. |
| Android wireless | You want to transfer without a cable and can keep both phones nearby. | Use Smart Switch on both phones; keep them close and connected to chargers during the transfer. |
| Android by cable | You have a compatible cable and prefer a direct connection. | Choose Cable in Smart Switch and use the connection the phones and app support. |
Samsung’s setup screens are the best way to confirm what is available for your particular devices. Instructions and supported categories can vary by phone, software version and transfer method. Samsung’s general Smart Switch guidance is available at Samsung Support US.

Transfer from an iPhone
Use a cable
- On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, open Smart Switch and choose Receive data, then iPhone/iPad.
- Connect the phones with a cable supported by the iPhone’s port and the Galaxy’s prompts. Samsung lists an iPhone Lightning-to-USB-C cable, or a Lightning-to-USB cable with a USB-OTG adapter, for applicable setups. Check the connector on your iPhone before buying a cable; do not assume every iPhone uses the same port.
- If the iPhone asks whether to trust the connected device, tap Trust.
- Review the categories Smart Switch offers, select what you want, and start the transfer. Keep the phones connected until the process finishes.
Import from iCloud
- On the iPhone, make sure the data you want is synced to iCloud.
- On the Galaxy, open Smart Switch and choose Receive data, then the iPhone/iPad and iCloud import option.
- Sign in to your Apple account and complete any verification prompt.
- Select the available categories and start the import. Check the result on the Galaxy afterward, since Samsung warns that some data may not transfer through iCloud.
Samsung’s iOS support guidance names contacts, calendars, notes, call history, bookmarks, photos including Live Photos, videos subject to DRM limits, documents, recommended apps and voice memos among the categories that may be imported from iCloud. This is a list of possible categories, not a guarantee that each will be available in every account or software configuration. See Samsung’s Smart Switch support information for its guidance.
What to expect from iPhone data
- Apple-specific apps do not transfer as Android apps. Find Android equivalents in Google Play where needed, then sign in again.
- Samsung’s German guidance says Apple Music itself does not transfer, though it can be downloaded again on Android, and says Apple Keychain passwords are not transferred through Smart Switch. These are details stated in that regional Samsung guidance; do not assume Smart Switch will move passwords or app access.
- When you stop using the iPhone, turn off iMessage and FaceTime so messages are not routed to services you no longer use. Apple’s deregistration help is at selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage.
Transfer from another Android phone
- Install or open Smart Switch on both phones if needed.
- On the old Android phone, choose Send. On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, choose Receive data, then select Galaxy/Android as the source.
- Choose Wireless or Cable, according to the connection you want and the options shown on the devices.
- Select the categories presented by Smart Switch and begin. For a wireless transfer, keep the phones close together and connected to chargers.
The app’s selection list is specific to the connected devices. Do not assume every app’s private data, setting or account credential will migrate; review the offered categories and check important apps separately after the transfer. Samsung’s instructions are at Samsung Support US.

QR-started wireless transfer: check software first
Samsung Philippines describes a newer QR-started wireless method that does not require installing Smart Switch on the iPhone. Its stated requirements are iOS 26.6 or later on the iPhone and Android 17 / One UI 9.0 or later on the Galaxy; Samsung says the same steps can apply from other Android devices. This is a software-gated option, not a feature to expect on every S25 Ultra build or in every region. If the Galaxy’s setup flow offers the QR prompt and both phones meet the stated requirements, follow it; otherwise use the established Smart Switch routes. See Samsung Philippines’ QR transfer guide.

After the transfer
- Check contacts, photos, messages and calendar entries on the Galaxy.
- Open important apps, install Android versions where available, and sign in again as needed.
- Confirm that documents, voice memos and other essential items are present before erasing or trading in the old phone.
- If a category is missing, check the source phone or iCloud for the original data and use the relevant app’s own export, sync or sign-in process where available.
