How to Track Video Game Release Dates Across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC

The most reliable way to track a game’s launch is to combine a cross-platform calendar for discovery with the publisher or storefront listing for verification. Record the exact platform, region, edition, access tier, date, and the day you last checked it. Then add the game to the relevant storefront wishlist or release queue so you can receive a platform-specific reminder.

This process prevents the most common mistakes: treating a broad release window as a firm date, confusing early access with the standard launch, and assuming that a title releases simultaneously on every platform.

Why one game can have several release dates

A release date is not always a single global event. Publishers may schedule different dates by platform, territory, edition, or access tier. A console version can launch before or after the PC edition, and a premium edition may unlock before the standard edition. Regional midnight launches can also make the calendar day differ between countries.

For example, the official EA SPORTS FC 26 listing identifies September 19, 2025 as the early-access date and September 26, 2025 as the standard release date. The same game supports PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC, so a useful tracker must store both the access tier and the platform rather than one date for the title.

Square Enix’s catalog shows another reason to check each listing: one title may appear for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, while another title from the same publisher may be limited to only some of those platforms.

The four date labels you need to distinguish

Confirmed release date

A confirmed date is a specific day published by the game’s publisher or shown on the relevant platform storefront. It is the strongest ordinary evidence, but it can still change if the publisher announces a delay. Keep the source page and the date you checked it.

Release window

A window such as “2025” or “Q4 2026” is a target period, not a launch-day promise. GameSpot separates games with concrete dates from games that have only a 2025 window, while Game Informer says games are not assigned to a month on its schedule until they have confirmed dates. Treat a window as useful for planning, never as a date for taking time off or preloading.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Early access

Early access is a paid or edition-specific period that begins before the standard launch. It may apply to a deluxe edition, a subscription entitlement, or a preorder bonus. Write it as a separate event, such as “September 19 — early access,” followed by “September 26 — standard release,” rather than replacing the standard date.

Regional or rolling launch

Some storefronts unlock at different local times. A date shown for one country may not describe another country’s access time. Store the region with the date, and check the platform’s local listing or publisher support page when the exact hour matters.

A reliable tracking workflow

1. Start with a broad cross-platform calendar

Use an independent calendar or editorial schedule to discover upcoming titles. GameReleaseCal documents a calendar covering confirmed PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo dates, with month browsing, platform and genre filters, countdowns, and delay updates. These features are useful for building a watchlist without checking every publisher individually.

At this stage, treat the calendar as an index. Filter by the platforms you own, browse the month you care about, and note titles that match your genres. Do not yet assume that every date is final or that every listed platform launches together.

2. Verify each date at the source

Open the publisher page or the platform storefront listing for every game you plan to track. Confirm the exact platform name, edition, region, and access tier. A calendar can combine data from several announcements, while the source listing usually reflects the latest platform-specific availability.

Check the publisher first when a title is newly announced or has multiple editions. Check the storefront when you need the local release time, preorder status, download size, or a platform-specific entitlement. If the two pages disagree, record both links and use the newest dated publisher or storefront update while waiting for the discrepancy to be resolved.

3. Split the entry by platform and access tier

Do not create one row that says only “Game X — September 26.” Create a row for each meaningful combination:

  • Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store, or GOG, as applicable.
  • Region: the country or storefront region used for the purchase.
  • Edition: standard, deluxe, collector’s, or another named edition.
  • Access tier: early access, full launch, open beta, or another explicitly named phase.
  • Date and time: include a time zone when the source provides one.
  • Last verified: the date you checked the source.
  • Source: the exact publisher or storefront page.

This structure makes differences visible instead of hiding them in notes. It also lets you change one platform’s date after a delay without overwriting the others.

4. Save the game where you will see it

Add the title to the storefront you actually use. Steam’s official Upcoming Releases page combines upcoming listings, pre-purchase status, popular wishlist information, and a personalized upcoming-release queue. Console storefronts provide equivalent wishlist or notification controls, although labels and alert behavior vary by platform and region.

A wishlist is more useful than a browser bookmark because it keeps the title attached to your account and can trigger a notification when the game becomes available, receives a price change, or reaches another storefront event supported by that platform. Keep the publisher page bookmarked as the authority for date changes.

5. Recheck provisional dates

Revisit games with a release window, an undated listing, a recently announced date, or a history of delay announcements. Game Informer explicitly warns that “The gaming calendar is constantly changing” and recommends bookmarking its schedule. Use the same principle for your own tracker: retain a last-verified date and recheck before a planned purchase, download, stream, or vacation.

Build a release-date tracker that does not lose context

A spreadsheet, notes database, calendar, or task manager can work if it preserves the fields below. The key is not the app; it is keeping each date attached to the evidence that qualifies it.

Field What to record Why it matters
Title Official game name Prevents confusion between similarly named releases or remasters.
Platform Specific console, launcher, or PC storefront Shows whether the date applies to your device and account.
Region Country or storefront territory Accounts for regional dates and unlock times.
Edition Standard, deluxe, collector’s, or other named edition Separates edition-specific access.
Access tier Early access, standard launch, beta, or other phase Stops an early-access date being mistaken for the full release.
Date and time Exact value shown by the source Preserves the publisher’s precision and time-zone qualification.
Status Confirmed date, window, announced, delayed, or unannounced Makes confidence visible at a glance.
Source URL Publisher or storefront page Lets you verify a change instead of relying on memory.
Last verified Date you checked the source Shows how stale the entry may be.
Notification Wishlist, queue, calendar alert, or none Confirms how you will hear about launch availability.

Use a separate row when two platforms have different dates. If all platforms share one confirmed date, you can still list each platform in separate rows and point them to the same source; that makes later changes easier to apply accurately.

How to compare calendars and tracking methods

No single calendar is best for every purpose. Compare tools using the dimensions that affect your decision rather than by the number of titles listed.

Comparison axis Questions to ask
Platform coverage Does it include the consoles, PC launchers, and handheld versions you follow?
Region support Can it distinguish your country or storefront territory?
Date certainty Are confirmed dates separated from month, quarter, or year-only windows?
Delay speed How quickly does it reflect a publisher’s postponement?
Wishlist integration Can you save a title or connect it to a platform notification?
Filters Can you filter by month, platform, and genre?
Source transparency Does each entry identify where the date came from?
Ownership model Is it editorial, publisher-owned, storefront-owned, or community-maintained?

An independent calendar is usually strongest for scanning the whole market. A publisher page is strongest for the publisher’s own announcement. A storefront is strongest for your account, region, edition, and purchase status. Use all three roles deliberately instead of asking one service to provide every kind of certainty.

Where to find upcoming dates by platform

PlayStation

Use a cross-platform calendar to discover titles, then open the game’s PlayStation Store listing or publisher page. Confirm that the entry is for PS5 rather than a PS4 version, and check whether an edition includes an earlier unlock. Add the title to your PlayStation wishlist or the equivalent notification control available in your region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Xbox

Verify whether the listing applies to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or both. A release date for one generation is not proof that the other version launches on the same day. Save the title in your Xbox account so the platform can surface availability and supported notifications.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Check the exact hardware label. A listing for Nintendo Switch does not automatically establish a Nintendo Switch 2 date, and a Switch 2 listing does not prove that the original Switch version exists. Confirm the regional Nintendo storefront entry and the edition you intend to buy.

PC

“PC” is not one storefront. Verify whether the game is on Windows generally or on a specific launcher such as Steam, Epic Games Store, or GOG. Record the launcher separately because release timing, preorder status, achievements, cloud saves, and notification behavior can differ. If the publisher gives one PC date but a storefront shows another, preserve the distinction until an authoritative update explains it.

Why console and PC dates diverge

A publisher may stagger platforms because development milestones, certification, optimization, distribution, or commercial agreements are different for each version. A console launch can be ready while a PC build needs additional testing across hardware configurations, or a PC version can arrive first while a console edition completes certification. A launcher-specific date can also differ from a general PC announcement.

Do not infer the reason from the calendar alone. Record the dates as separate facts and use the publisher’s wording when it explains the schedule. If no explanation is provided, state only that the dates differ.

Notification strategy that survives delays

  1. Use the platform wishlist. Save the game on every storefront where you may buy it.
  2. Keep one central list. Include platform, region, edition, access tier, source, and last-verified date.
  3. Set a review trigger. Recheck entries when a publisher announces a showcase, preorder, delay, or new platform.
  4. Review before launch week. Confirm the date and time again before arranging downloads, streams, travel, or time off.
  5. Archive changed dates. Keep the old date in a note with the delay announcement instead of silently replacing it; this preserves the history without confusing the current date.

Storefront alerts are the simplest platform-specific reminder. A central calendar is still valuable for comparing releases across platforms, but it should not replace the account-level notification offered by the store where you will play.

Troubleshooting common tracking errors

The calendar says a date is confirmed, but the store does not

Open the publisher announcement and the local storefront. The calendar may have retained an older date, may cover another region, or may be describing an early-access edition. Mark the entry as “verification pending” until the source pages agree.

The date changed without an obvious notice

Compare the current listing with your last-verified date and look for a publisher delay statement. Update the row, retain the previous date in your notes, and reset any personal reminder that still points to the old day.

The game appears on one platform but not another

Check the publisher’s platform list rather than assuming parity. Catalogs can include Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG in different combinations. “Available on PC” also does not identify a particular launcher.

An early-access notification arrives, but the game is not generally available

Read the edition and entitlement details. Record the early-access date separately and leave the standard-release date unchanged. If you do not own the qualifying edition, the early-access notification may not apply to your account.

The listing shows only a year

Keep it as a release window. Do not invent a month or day. Recheck when the publisher moves the title to a dated announcement or when a storefront creates a specific product page.

A practical weekly routine

Once a week, scan the next three months in a broad calendar and filter to your platforms and genres. Add promising titles to your central list, then verify any date you may act on. Once a month, review every entry whose last-verified date is old, whose status is a window, or whose publisher has recently announced a showcase. During a launch week, check the local storefront one final time for the unlock time and edition you own.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This routine is quick because discovery and verification are separate tasks. The calendar finds candidates; the publisher and storefront establish what you can actually play and when.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best single source for every platform?

No single source is authoritative for every detail. Use an independent cross-platform calendar to discover titles, then verify the date on the publisher or platform storefront listing for your region and edition.

Should I trust a countdown timer?

Only as a convenience after you have confirmed the underlying date, platform, region, and access tier. A timer can continue counting down to an obsolete date if a delay has not yet propagated.

How far ahead should I check a release date?

Check windows and newly announced dates periodically, then verify again immediately before launch week. The closer the purchase or play session, the more important the last-verified source check becomes.
