Search each index, add it to a watchlist, open its quote for the day’s change and chart, and confirm whether prices are real-time or delayed before acting on them.
What you can track from a phone
Sensex, Nifty 50 and Nifty IT are index measures, not individual shares. Each index combines the prices of a defined group of companies into one number. The number, its point change and its percentage change provide a quick view of how that group is moving. An index rising does not mean every constituent rose, and an index falling does not mean every constituent fell.

NSE’s index FAQ explains that indices reflect changing market expectations about future dividends from India’s corporate sector. That makes an index a market-level signal rather than a complete description of every company or sector. Use the index to understand direction and relative performance, then inspect constituents or broader data when you need an investment decision.
Know what each index represents
| Index | What it covers | Facts to keep in mind | Best use on a phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| S&P BSE Sensex | 30 large, well-known companies from different sectors | SEBI Investor describes it as one of India’s two major securities-market indices. The constituent list can change, so check the current BSE description when you need the exact membership. | A broad large-company and market-sentiment reference, viewed through a BSE quote page or a service that clearly labels the index. |
| Nifty 50 | 50 stocks across 13 sectors | NSE says it is owned and managed by NSE Indices Limited. It has used free-float methodology since June 26, 2009. NSE lists a base year of 1995 and a base value of 1,000. | A broad benchmark for large Indian companies, with official NSE quotes, charts and watchlist tools. |
| Nifty IT | Companies engaged in software development, hardware and IT infrastructure | The NSE Indices methodology published in March 2026 describes a 10-company index. The methodology date matters because constituents and rules can be revised. | A sector view for technology-related companies, compared with Nifty 50 or Sensex over the same period. |
Do not compare the raw level of one index with another. Sensex, Nifty 50 and Nifty IT have different constituent counts, methodologies and historical bases. A level of 80,000 is not “larger” performance than a level of 25,000. Compare percentage changes over an identical start and end time.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Set up Nifty 50 and Nifty IT in the official NSE app
The official NSEIndia mobile app is the most direct starting point for the two NSE indices. Its official app page documents instant access to current values of major indices, an “Add to Watch” personalized watchlist and “Get Quote” pages with price movements, an intraday graph and corporate information. App labels can change with an update, but the workflow is usually the same.
- Install or open the official NSEIndia app. Use the publisher name and app-store listing carefully; avoid look-alike apps that do not identify NSE as the operator.
- Open the market-data or index area. If the home screen opens on equities or news, use the menu to select indices or market data.
- Search for “Nifty 50”. Select the index result rather than a similarly named fund, futures contract or individual security.
- Add it to your watchlist. The documented control is “Add to Watch.” Confirm that the index now appears in your personalized list.
- Repeat the search for “Nifty IT”. Select the index entry and use the same add-to-watch control.
- Open each quote with “Get Quote”. Read the latest displayed value, point movement, percentage movement and intraday graph. Look for the timestamp or a delayed-data notice.
- Arrange the watchlist for quick comparison. Put Nifty 50 and Nifty IT next to each other so their percentage changes are visible without switching screens.
If the app does not show an index, use NSE’s mobile web index pages instead. A browser shortcut to the official page can provide nearly the same lookup without installing another app. Do not assume that an app displaying an NSE logo is providing exchange data directly; check its stated data provider and freshness label.
Add Sensex without confusing it with an NSE index
Sensex is a BSE index, so it may not appear in an NSE-only watchlist. Use a BSE quote page or a reputable market-data service that labels it exactly as the S&P BSE Sensex.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Open the BSE mobile quote page, or open a market-data service whose index name includes “S&P BSE Sensex.”
- Search for “Sensex” and verify that the result is the index, not a futures instrument, an exchange-traded product or a news article.
- Add the result to that service’s watchlist. If the service supports mixed-exchange lists, place Sensex beside Nifty 50 and Nifty IT; otherwise keep two watchlists and compare the displayed percentage fields.
- Open the quote details and note the “as of” time, whether the figure is delayed, and the session or date to which the chart applies.
A mixed watchlist is convenient, but consistency is more important than having all three on one screen. If the service combines data from different providers, confirm that all timestamps refer to the same trading session before comparing moves.
Read the numbers correctly
Points versus percentage
Point movement depends on the index’s level. A 500-point move has a different meaning for an index at 20,000 than for one at 80,000. Percentage change normalizes the move and is the primary field for comparing Sensex, Nifty 50 and Nifty IT.
For a custom period, calculate the return as ((ending value − starting value) ÷ starting value) × 100. Use closing values when comparing completed days, weeks or months. For an intraday comparison, use the same timestamp for every index; comparing one index at its current quote with another at an earlier close can produce a false ranking.

Intraday charts
The official NSE app describes an intraday graph in its quote view. Use it to answer “what happened today,” not “which index performed best over the year.” Check the chart interval, last-updated time and whether the line represents the index level or percentage change. A chart that resets at the start of each session cannot replace historical data.

For a longer comparison, use the historical-data link or tab attached to each quote. Select matching start and end dates, record the opening and closing values or the period’s published percentage return, and keep the calculation method the same for all three indices. If a service offers only a short chart, use the official exchange or index-provider historical page for the longer window.
A repeatable phone method for comparing performance
- Choose the question and period. Examples include today’s move, the last completed month or a calendar-year comparison. Write down the exact start and end dates before opening the charts.
- Capture a common baseline. For a completed period, use the prior session’s close as the starting value. For an intraday view, use the same market timestamp for all indices.
- Record percentage changes first. Note each index’s percentage move, then its point move and closing or current value. This prevents the larger numerical level of Sensex from dominating the comparison.
- Check data freshness. Record whether each quote is real-time, delayed or simply the last published close. Do not combine a real-time Nifty quote with a delayed Sensex quote and call the difference a sector signal.
- Inspect the charts for context. Look for a gap at the open, a sharp reversal, a steady trend or a late-session move. The shape can explain why two percentage changes differ, but it does not identify the cause by itself.
- Compare Nifty IT with a broad benchmark. A higher Nifty IT return than Nifty 50 indicates relative strength for that index’s constituents during the selected period; it does not prove that every technology company outperformed.
- Save the observation with a timestamp. Screenshots and notes should include the date, time zone if relevant, data status and the app or page used. Index values, constituent lists and app features are changeable.

Use these comparison axes before choosing a service: freshness of data; coverage of all three indices; chart and historical-data depth; alert controls; watchlist limits; login requirements; portfolio tools; and clarity about the data provider. A polished interface is not evidence that its quote is real-time.

Alerts and notifications
Alerts are useful when you cannot keep a chart open, but they are separate from the quote itself. Check whether an alert can be based on a percentage move, an index level or a crossing event, and whether it triggers on an intraday value or a closing value. Some services require an account or a paid tier for alerts. Enable notifications only after confirming the app’s data status and the alert’s time zone.
For a broad watchlist, percentage alerts are generally easier to compare than point alerts because the indices have different levels. Keep a record of the trigger and timestamp if the notification matters to a later review; a notification can arrive after the market-data event because of phone, network or service delays.
Common problems and fixes
The app shows Nifty 50 but not Nifty IT
- Search the exact name “Nifty IT” in the index section rather than the equity search field.
- Update the official app, then sign out and back in if the watchlist does not refresh.
- Use the NSE mobile web index page as a fallback and verify that the result is an index.
- Check whether the service has temporarily hidden an index because of a data-feed or maintenance issue; do not substitute an IT fund or a single technology share.
Sensex is missing from the NSE watchlist
This is normally an exchange-coverage issue, not an error in the Sensex quote. Open a BSE quote page or a multi-market service that supports BSE indices. Verify the full label “S&P BSE Sensex” and keep its timestamp alongside the NSE timestamps.

The numbers disagree between two apps
- Compare the “as of” time and the real-time or delayed label first.
- Check whether one screen shows the current value while another shows the previous close.
- Confirm that both results are indices rather than derivatives, funds or exchange-traded products.
- Refresh both pages and compare again at the same moment.
- If the discrepancy remains, use the exchange’s own quote page as the reference and treat the third-party display as unverified until its data provider explains the difference.
The chart does not cover the period you need
Use the quote’s historical-data link, switch to a longer interval or move to the official NSE or BSE historical page. Record the dates and whether the chart uses close-to-close values. Do not estimate a multi-month return by adding daily percentage changes shown with rounded numbers; use the period’s starting and ending values when available.
Notifications are late or absent
- Check that phone notifications, background data and battery permissions are enabled for the app.
- Confirm that the alert is active and attached to the intended index.
- Review whether the service sends alerts only for delayed data, end-of-day values or logged-in users.
- Do not treat a missing alert as evidence that an index did not cross a level; open the quote and verify the recorded value.
Data, privacy and decision safeguards
Install apps from the official store listing and review the publisher, requested permissions and privacy policy. A market-data app does not need access to unrelated phone functions to show an index quote. Avoid entering brokerage credentials into a quote-only app unless you deliberately chose a portfolio integration and understand who receives the information.
Keep a distinction between observation and action. An index quote tells you what the benchmark did; it does not establish that a purchase, sale or sector allocation is suitable. Nifty IT’s 10-company design, for example, can produce a different result from the diversified 50-stock Nifty 50 even when both are rising. Investigate the methodology, constituents, costs and risks of any product you might buy rather than treating the index itself as an investment.

Current values, daily percentage changes, constituent lists, app features and market-data availability are volatile. The factual descriptions above are tied to the named source material available in 2026: SEBI Investor’s description of Sensex, NSE’s 2026 Nifty 50 information, the NSE Indices methodology published in March 2026 for Nifty IT, and the official NSE app feature page. Recheck the current methodology and app labels when you publish a screenshot or make a time-sensitive comparison.
The fixed reference points are useful for orientation: Sensex contains 30 companies according to SEBI Investor; Nifty 50 contains 50 stocks across 13 sectors, uses free-float methodology from June 26, 2009, and has a 1995 base year with a base value of 1,000 according to NSE; and the March 2026 NSE Indices methodology describes Nifty IT as a 10-company index. Those facts do not make today’s quote permanent, so date your notes.
A practical daily checklist
- Open the official NSEIndia app or NSE mobile page and refresh Nifty 50 and Nifty IT.
- Open the BSE quote page or clearly labelled multi-market service for S&P BSE Sensex.
- Confirm each quote’s timestamp and real-time or delayed status.
- Read percentage change before point change.
- Use the same timestamp and comparison period for all three indices.
- Open the intraday chart when you need today’s path; use historical data for longer periods.
- Check that any alert is attached to the correct index and understand its trigger conditions.
- Save dated notes or screenshots when the comparison will be used later.
With that routine, your phone becomes a consistent monitoring tool rather than a collection of mismatched numbers: NSE’s app or mobile pages cover the NSE benchmarks, a BSE source covers Sensex, and percentage-based, timestamp-matched comparisons show how the broad market and the technology sector are actually diverging.
