Use Search Console’s Generative AI performance report (Search) to track how often your site appears in Google AI Overviews. The report breaks down generative-AI impressions by page, country, date, and device. Google says that clicking an external page link in an AI Overview counts as a click, but the dedicated report is documented as an impressions report—not as a separate AI Overview clicks counter.
Find the Generative AI performance report
- Open the verified Search Console property for the site you want to measure.
- Find Generative AI performance report (Search). Google says it covers generative AI features in Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode. The insights rollout reached websites worldwide as of August 31, 2026, but a property may not show the report if it has not received enough impressions. Google Search Console Help: Generative AI performance report (Search)
Track impressions by page, country, date, or device
- Start with the report’s impressions view and select the date range you want to examine.
- Choose a dimension—Pages, Countries, Dates, or Devices—to break down the results.
- Use the chart to follow property-level impressions over time and the table to inspect the selected dimension. Page rows are grouped by the final linked URL after redirects, and most performance data is assigned to the canonical URL.
- For a time trend, select daily, weekly, or monthly date granularity. Dates use Pacific Time.
Google defines an impression as a link to your site being shown to a user in a generative AI feature. The chart aggregates at the property level: if two results from the same property appear in one generative AI result, they count as one chart impression. The Pages table aggregates by page, so its totals can differ from the chart. That difference reflects the aggregation level and is not, by itself, evidence of a reporting error. What Search Console reports about clicks
Google states that “Clicking a link to an external page in the AI Overview counts as a click.” It also says all links in an AI Overview receive the same position, and standard impression rules apply. Google Search Console Help: What are impressions, position, and clicks?
Keep that click definition separate from what the dedicated generative AI report displays: Google documents its reported data as impressions. Use this report to monitor AI Overview visibility; do not treat it as a dedicated AI Overview clicks metric. For broader Search performance context, Search Console’s general overview describes data for links that send users to the current property. Export results and account for data limits
Use the report’s export control to download chart and table data. Exported values shown in the interface as ~ or - are represented as zero. The report uses Web search data, excludes Search Labs experiments, and inherits usual Search performance limits, including row and time-period limits.
The newest performance data may be preliminary and change over the next few hours; preliminary chart data is indicated with a dotted line. Avoid treating the latest values as final. Google Search Console Help: Performance report (Search results): About the data

Why the report may be missing
- The property may not have enough impressions. Google lists insufficient impressions as a reason the report may not appear.
- Search Labs experiments are not included. Google excludes these experiments from Search Console reporting because they remain in active development.
- Confirm the property and reporting scope. Search performance data is limited to links sending users to the current Search Console property; the report is for generative AI features in Google Search.
Google Search Console Help explains report availability and dimensions; its general Search performance documentation describes property scope and standard limits.
