Track a Philadelphia-bound container in two systems: the ocean carrier’s tracking page for shipment and vessel information, and Holt Connect for the terminal-level record at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal (PAMT). Enter the container number in Holt Connect’s Container Status function, then confirm the vessel, receive date, release status, exam status, availability, appointment and gate conditions before sending a truck.
PAMT is operated by Greenwich Terminals LLC at 3301 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19148. A container showing as arrived or “in yard” is not automatically cleared for pickup; customs, freight, agricultural, terminal-service, demurrage and appointment requirements can still prevent a gate move.

What you need before you start
Have the ocean carrier’s container number ready. It normally follows the international four-letter owner prefix and six-digit serial number with a check digit, although the exact format depends on the carrier. Copy it exactly, including letters and numbers; a single transcription error can return no result or identify another shipment.

The carrier uses those references to show voyage, booking and documentation events, while Holt Connect provides terminal functions such as Booking Lookup and Vessel Schedule. A master bill of lading may also work in a third-party visibility service, but the carrier and terminal records remain the authority for release and gate decisions.

Confirm that the container is actually going through Packer Avenue
The Port of Philadelphia has more than one marine facility. The workflow below is for Packer Avenue Marine Terminal, the container facility operated by Greenwich Terminals LLC. Confirm the terminal on the arrival notice, booking confirmation or carrier record before searching. If the notice names a different Philadelphia terminal, use that facility’s own instructions instead of assuming a PAMT result applies.
PAMT’s published terminal/FIRMS code is C095. The address is 3301 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19148. PhilaPort describes the facility as having a computerized container-tracking system, six berths, 3,800 linear feet and a 45-foot depth at mean low water. Those physical details explain why a shipment can have separate vessel, yard, rail and truck milestones, but they do not determine whether your individual box is released.
Step-by-step: check a container in Holt Connect
- Open Holt Connect. Use the terminal workflow provided by Holt Logistics. The available functions include Container Status, Booking Lookup and Vessel Schedule.
- Select Container Status. Holt’s instructions say to choose either a single container or multiple containers and then input the container number. For one box, select the single-container option; for a list, use the multiple-container option and enter each number in the format requested by the page.
- Submit the search and save the returned record. Note the top-line location, release information, terminal-service information and any dates or remarks. If the system returns no record, recheck every character and confirm that the carrier has transmitted the booking or manifest to the terminal.
- Look up the booking when the container number is not yet productive. Booking Lookup can connect the booking reference with the terminal’s vessel information. Keep the ocean carrier’s booking confirmation nearby so you can distinguish a booking number from a bill of lading or container number.
- Open Vessel Schedule. Locate the vessel associated with the booking. Review the receive dates shown for that vessel and service. Holt says the schedule can also provide an approximate arrival date while a container is still manifested.
- Read every status field, not just the first line. The location line tells you whether the terminal believes the box is in the yard or has gated out. Release Status identifies holds, and Terminal Service Status identifies exams and related terminal work. Treat the result as a snapshot: schedules, holds, fees, appointments and cutoffs can change.
- Verify pickup conditions with the responsible parties. Before dispatching a truck, confirm that the carrier has issued freight release, customs and agricultural requirements are satisfied, terminal services are complete, free time and demurrage are understood, and an appointment or other gate requirement has been met.
For a status dispute, record the container number, booking or bill of lading, vessel, displayed status and the time you checked. That information lets the carrier, broker or terminal investigate the same event instead of asking you to describe it from memory.

How to interpret Philadelphia terminal statuses
Manifested
Manifested means the container has not yet arrived at the terminal. It can be associated with an inbound booking or vessel while still being at origin, on the water or awaiting discharge. Use Vessel Schedule to see the receive dates and an approximate arrival date. Do not send a truck based on a manifested record.

In yard
In yard indicates that the terminal record places the container physically in the yard. It does not establish that customs, freight, agricultural, exam, payment, appointment or free-time conditions are complete. Continue through the release and terminal-service fields before planning pickup.
Gated out
Gated out means the container has left through the terminal gate. If your trucker says the box was not collected, check that the correct container number was searched and ask the carrier or terminal to reconcile the gate event with the truck transaction.
Release Status
Release Status shows the type of hold, if any, affecting release. A customs hold, freight hold or another release restriction can remain even when the box is in the yard. The status tells you where to look next; it is not a substitute for the broker’s, carrier’s or government agency’s clearance.
Terminal Service Status
Terminal Service Status reports terminal services such as examinations and related fees. Review it for an exam stage, service charge or completion message that could affect availability. Follow the terminal’s payment or resolution instructions for a terminal-service item.

Exam stages: Planned, Presented and Complete
- Planned: an exam has been scheduled.
- Presented: the container has been staged for, or is undergoing, the exam.
- Complete: the exam has finished.
Exam completion alone may not clear every other release condition. Check the separate release and carrier records before arranging a pickup.
How to tell whether the container is ready for pickup
Arrival and pickup readiness are different events. A reliable dispatch decision requires all of the following to be true for the specific container and current gate period:
- The terminal record shows the box has arrived and is available, rather than merely manifested or awaiting discharge.
- The ocean carrier has transmitted freight release or otherwise removed its freight hold.
- Your customs broker confirms that the entry and any customs requirement are cleared.
- Any agricultural or other government examination is complete and cleared.
- Terminal-service work, exams and associated charges are resolved.
- The applicable free-time, demurrage and last-free-day information is understood.
- The trucker has the required appointment, reference, chassis arrangement and pickup documents.
- The gate is open for the intended move and no current cutoff, vessel operation or facility restriction blocks the transaction.
Do not infer any of these conditions from an “in yard” label alone. Ask the carrier or terminal to confirm the exact availability and gate requirements when the status is ambiguous.

Use the booking and container number together. First identify the vessel tied to the booking in the carrier’s tracking system or Holt Connect. Then open Vessel Schedule and review the listed receive dates. A receive date is a terminal planning milestone; it is not a promise that a particular container will be discharged, released or ready for a truck on that day.

When Holt shows the box as manifested, the vessel schedule can provide an approximate arrival date. Weather, port operations, vessel rotation changes, discharge sequencing, inspections and documentation can move the actual availability. Recheck the live record close to dispatch rather than relying on an earlier email or a historical schedule.
Who can clear a hold or answer a problem?

Contact the party that controls the event. A terminal cannot normally remove a carrier freight hold, and a carrier cannot substitute for a customs broker’s clearance. Routing the question correctly is faster than repeatedly refreshing the same status page.

For one shipment, start with the carrier and Holt Connect. For many containers, a visibility dashboard can reduce manual searches, but it should feed—not replace—the carrier and terminal verification process.

Troubleshooting common tracking failures
“No container found”
- Copy the number directly from the carrier notice and check the prefix, serial digits and check digit.
- Confirm that you selected Container Status rather than Booking Lookup or Vessel Schedule.
- Verify that the carrier has assigned the box to PAMT and transmitted the manifest.
- If the booking exists but the container does not, search the booking and vessel schedule, then ask the carrier when the terminal record will be available.
The container is manifested past the expected date
Compare the vessel name, receive date and latest carrier estimate. A manifested status means the terminal has not recorded arrival; it does not prove the box is lost. Ask the carrier whether the vessel rotation, discharge plan or documentation changed. Contact the terminal only after confirming that PAMT is the intended facility.
The box is in yard but the truck cannot pick it up
Check Release Status, Terminal Service Status, customs and freight release first. Then verify demurrage or free-time conditions, appointment availability, chassis arrangements and current gate restrictions. An in-yard result without release is a normal explanation for a failed pickup attempt.
An exam is showing no movement
Use the exam stage to distinguish a scheduled exam (Planned), an exam in progress or staged (Presented), and a finished exam (Complete). For customs questions, contact the broker; for agricultural clearance, use the CBP contact provided by Holt; for terminal-service work, follow the terminal’s instructions. Ask which separate release condition remains after the exam.
The schedule, portal and phone answer disagree
Capture the time and wording of each result. The vessel schedule is useful for planning, while the terminal status reflects the terminal record and the carrier controls freight release. Ask the party responsible for the disputed event to reconcile the records. Do not dispatch until the carrier or terminal confirms the operative instruction.
Dispatch checklist for a Philadelphia pickup
Use this checklist immediately before assigning a truck:
- Confirm the terminal is Packer Avenue Marine Terminal and the container number is exact.
- Check Holt Connect for the current location, release status and terminal-service status.
- Confirm carrier freight release and customs clearance with the responsible parties.
- Resolve agricultural, exam and terminal-service requirements.
- Check free time, demurrage and the shipment-specific last-free-day information.
- Confirm appointment availability, gate cutoff, operating hours and any vessel-related restriction.
- Arrange the required chassis and give the driver the correct pickup references and documents.
- Recheck the live record if dispatch is delayed; a status can change between booking the truck and arrival at the gate.
For current facility operating information, call Packer Avenue/Greenwich Terminals at 215-551-2600. PhilaPort cautions that extended gate hours may change, so a previously published schedule should not be treated as today’s gate commitment.
