Use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to monitor a 24/7 broadcast while it is running, then review the stream’s Analytics reports and your channel’s Live content data to understand reach, viewing depth, concurrent audience and interaction. Keep those reports distinct: Studio Analytics processes and despams data, so its figures may differ from the Live Control Room’s real-time display. Also plan a separate recording backup: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its archive.
Track the live broadcast first
During a broadcast, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Start with stream status and health to check whether the stream is operating, then use the audience and interaction metrics that are available for your streaming method.

- Check stream status and health. Treat this as the operational view: it answers whether the broadcast is running, not how successful it is with viewers.
- Watch concurrent viewers. This is the number of people watching at the same time. A momentary value can move quickly, so distinguish it from the average and peak figures you review later.
- Monitor the available audience and interaction figures. Depending on the workflow, the Live Control Room may show duration, views, likes, chat rate and estimated average view duration. YouTube notes that metrics can differ between phone and encoder workflows, so do not assume every stream exposes the same live measures.
- Record which screen supplied each number. Live Control Room data is stream-time data; Analytics is processed and despammed. Do not combine values from the two surfaces as if they were a single, identical measurement.
Review a stream after it ends
YouTube says the post-stream snapshot is available in Analytics within minutes after a stream ends. Use it to assess the completed event; it is not a substitute for the live operational view.

- In YouTube Studio, open Content, choose Live, and select the stream.
- Open Analytics for that video.
- Review the post-stream snapshot, including views, subscribers gained during the stream, total watch time, peak concurrent viewers, duration and average view duration.
- Use the detailed video report for supported measures such as average and peak concurrent viewers and audience retention or key moments, where available.
For channel-level patterns, use the Content tab’s Live view and channel reports. Compare impressions, impressions click-through rate, views and average view duration to study discovery and viewing over time; use channel-level average and peak concurrent viewers and hours streamed to compare broadcast periods.

Choose metrics by the question you want to answer

YouTube describes a useful interpretation sequence as appeal, engagement and satisfaction: CTR helps assess whether the title and thumbnail lead to a watch; views describe watching; average view duration indicates how long views lasted. Look for patterns over time to identify stronger broadcasts, seasonal changes or shifts in audience interest rather than judging a continuous stream from a single moment.
Make comparisons that mean something
- Use the same date ranges and filters for each comparison.
- Label whether a figure came from Live Control Room or Analytics, and compare like with like. Analytics data is based on Video ID and is processed and despammed; the live dashboard is not the same reporting surface.
- Separate reach, viewing depth, concurrent audience and interaction rather than collapsing them into one success figure. A rise in impressions, for example, answers a different question from a rise in average view duration.
- For a continuous broadcast, track operational continuity and preservation separately from audience performance. A stream can be live without a complete archive being available afterward.
Account for the 24/7 archive limitation
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. For a 24/7 broadcast, do not assume YouTube will retain a complete recording. If later review of the audiovisual record matters, arrange and verify a local recording and storage plan independently of Analytics.

The YouTube Help guidance cited here does not establish an official interval-by-interval reporting method for one broadcast that remains live continuously for 24 hours or more. Do not assume Analytics will provide hourly or daily slices for a never-ending stream without confirming current YouTube documentation. This uncertainty does not change the documented Live Control Room monitoring or post-stream reports; it concerns reporting cadence for one uninterrupted, ongoing broadcast.

YouTube’s content-performance guidance states that, beginning August 24, 2026, views are counted when a video starts to play across formats, including Shorts, long-form video on demand and live streams. YouTube also says this update does not change YouTube Partner Program earnings or eligibility, which continue to use their specified engaged or qualified measures. Because the definition is recent, check the reporting context before applying it to earlier periods.
